PM Starmer gives 'cast iron' pledge on defence as Nato summit begins

  • Sir Keir Starmer has been prime minister for less than a week and already he has been meeting world leaders at the 75th Nato summit in Washington.
The Russian threat looms large over the event and President Biden has already promised Nato leaders that Ukraine will be given air defence systems better able to repel Russian attacks.
And when Keir Starmer briefed reporters on the plane to the US, he gave what he said was a "cast-iron" promise to spend 2.5 per cent of national income on defence. But it's not entirely clear when that promise will take effect.

Starmer / Labour ruled out national insurance, VAT & income tax rises. He repeatedly said he wants to avoid tax on workers. Which means he is leaving room for taxes on wealthy multimillionaires. That's fiscally responsible and means working and middle-class is protected.

@johnrussell3961 Most wealth taxes are on appreciating assest that is unearned income. Hence why he backs ending non-dom loopholes which is a wealth tax and could back things like higher inheritance tax.

Do you know how neoliberal economics works? Multi whatever, are so economically naive, that they are unable to shift their capital in seconds. Putting more money in peoples' pockets may stimulate the economy, but it can also lead to inflation, if the supply side begins to shrink.

ITS AN INCREDIBLY WISE AND CLEVER MOVE BY STARMER, WHICH SHOWS THAT HE HAS WHAT IT TAKES AS PM IN STRENGTH BY MIND. BECAUSE FARAGE WANTED BREXIT TO STRIP OUT THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE SMALLER BUSINESS OWNER : BUT STARMER HAS RECOGNISED THAT 'WITHOUT INVESTMENT TO THE PEOPLE INDUSTRIES', THEN THERE WILL BE LESS HEALTHY ECONOMY TO SUPPORT THE 'BIG BANKS ANYWAY'. AND SO THE BANKS SHOULD 'THINK', THAT THEY GENERATE MORE FUTURE AND WEALTHIER CUSTOMERS, BY FAIR INVESTMENT INTO ALL OF OUR PEOPLES FUTURES. AKAH SKILLED ARMIES, TRAINED BRAINS 4 GREATER TECH, ONE THOUSAND MORE TRAINED NHS WORKERS FROM SCHOOLS DIRECTLY. AND THEN WE WILL HAVE NO BRAIN DRAIN LIKE RUSSIAS PUTIN KREMLIN.

you cant defend a country when you are only permitted and willing to defend. No attacker will stop if they have not been forced to constantly defend themselves. The French know this fact.
Try not fighting back in a boxing match, a socccer game, a War. You can be hurt, they cant. They can attack your every weak spot, you can only try to blunt every single attack from everywhere. They get stronger, you get weaker. Or, they take a breather before re-attacking, better prepared this time. Eventually you must surrender.

Farage is pro Putin. Given the long list of murdered political opponents, invaded countries, and war crimes committed Putin is responsible for; I'd say Farage needs hounding out of British politics like the grifting scumbag he is.
