Yay I'm so glad you did more episodes, so nice to see you exploring something of sweden and how it's like in summertime. Btw it hurts to hear your story a little bit that people are so uninviting and small-minded to judge because of looks at the end of the day we are all just people. I really hope that you continue to watch all the episodes of the most seasons, becourse it is actually one of the best ways in my opinion for foreign people to learn about Sweden and Swedish culture.

The Swedish National Day isn't really a big thing here. It's so new (a "preliminary" national day in the mid 80'ies and became official in 2005) that I guess we haven't gotten used to it. Besides, the peoples national day is midsummer eve which was also suggested as the official national day. That's the actual celebration day for Swedes where we go nuts dancing around the midsummer pole, get drunk, get together and eat (and drink) and so on.
No, the Swedish prime minister was jealous of the Norwegians, and so they established the sunniest day as a national day - and then made up some things to match the day... like the opposite of other countries national days. There was other suggestions that would have been much better, but they ran with june 6th. Midsummer or November 6th would have made much more sence.
Sorry steamboat. the date is not made up. its the coronation of Gustav Vasa and the birthday of modern Sweden. Do your homework.

First of all, Gustav had his coronation in January.
The 1809 constitution didn't get ratified until a few weeks into june when the last signees signed it.
You can read the parliament papers from 1983 (they are on-line) and you'll see that they decided to have a national day first, and then debated on which date it would be. I should know, I was there and listened on the debate. November 6 was actually a better candidate and a date proposed several times before, but June was more summer than autumn. If I had had a vote, I would have choosen midsummer.
No, the date came first and why came next. They sort of had to scrape the bottom of the barrell to shoehorn in some meaning.
The date of June 6th was originally chosen because Skansens spring party rained away that year. So, a few Stockholm influencers extended the party to June.
My bad. You are almost correct. Gustav Vasa was elected king june 6th and coronated january 12th. Who cares about modern politics? Its a day of celebration as it should be!
and I know perfectly well this nationalday is a new construct exactly as every other nationalday was from the start. june 6th is a perfectly good choice. Midsummer is not a good choice since its .... midsummer!

Interesting facts:
The Swedish national anthem have never been officially adopted. It just grew on us.
The Swedish national anthem never mentions Sweden or Swedes. The Polish one does, though - and not that flattering either.
Sweden is mentioned in verse 4, most people only learn verse 1 & 2. The original song actually had something like 18 verses.
6th of june is the date of the crowning of Gustav Vasa 1523, so in about 2 months it's 500 years ago.
@@magnusnilsson9792 Well, King Gustaf wasn't crowned June 6th. He was crowned January 12th, or more accurate January 21st according to the current calendar.
The Swedish constitution of 1974 was signed and took effect on june 6th, though.
The national anthem has actually only 3 verses. The rest of them isn't the (unofficial) anthem, pretty much as Germany's national anthem excludes the first verse of the original poem/song.

I've not seen this show even tho i'm swedish. So i'll be watching these along with you and then i've the other seasons to binge as well. So i'll say thank you for introducing me to a new show i probably wouln't have watched if didn't find you reacting to it.
Also sucks that my favorite of the bunch had to leave after ep2 but oh well.

I was taught in school that we choose to celebrate the 6th of June because that’s when Gustav Vasa was elected king, and he is consider the first king of a united Sweden.
Thats only one of the two reasons, the second reason the new governmental reform of 1810 that was established the 6th of June Wich ment a decrease of the Royal power and a form of start of the modern Swedish demochracy.
I knew there was a second reason, but since I couldn’t remember it, I decided not to say anything because it, but thank you for reminding me 🙂

Well, he was elected king in a country that wasn't his, dominated by the Danish king who was the official king for three more years... I was more a political statement for the Lubeckians. ... and btw it was june 15th in our current calendar.
@@marcusfridh8489 It wasn't established on june 6th. It was finally signed and became law about two weeks later. The constitution of 1974 was signed into law on june 6th, though.
... and that's actually not the reason for the date. They choose the date first and then set out to find something to motivate it.

Rackabajsare are also a sausage... and can also mean a "hard shot" in a sport... like Hockey or Football.
I really didn't like Eric the first time watching this show, but I think he's getting a bad rep, and that the show paints him in a somewhat bad light. Making him the 'villain' as you say.
