Hi, you and I talk the same talk. We made the move in 2004 after taking early retirement from stressful jobs. Moved to a small village inland to the province of Jaén. A completely different life up there with more olive trees than people. Stayed there for 15-years and loved every day of it. However, older age approaching we decided to move to our winter escape property in Torrox Pueblo, to the east of Malaga Province. Again, mostly agricultural in nature and a traditional village of some 4,000 mixed nationality residents. Just 10 minutes from the coast, an hour on the bus to Malaga, extremely slow pace of life. We’ll end our days here. Thoroughly enjoyed your vlog.
@ hola, I guess you probably already know that Jaén is one of the inland Provinces of Malaga. It’s a huge area with the city of Jaén being its capital. The city itself is expanding in population as towns and villages lost theirs. Numerically it’s one of the least populated provinces in Spain. The city itself is like all cities and having a University brings many nationalities. We lived about 90-minutes from the capital in a small village. When we moved there in 2004 there was a shop, couple of bars and weekly GP service. When we sold up and left in 2015 these had all closed. The nearest fully serviced town was Alcalá La Real, around 15K away. Our reasons for leaving our beautiful reformed casa was in preparation for old, old age when we would be in need of services, shops, facilities, health centre, etc., etc. we now live in a village/pueblo an hour east of Malaga city. It has all services, our house is on the flat, 24-hour health centre, and so on. The population is around 4,000 and growing. Being further south the winter months are warmer - no snow or iced up windscreen in the mornings. We actually used to spend our winter months here for some years. Hope this gives you food for thought but feel free to ask anything. Regards.
@ Jaén is one of the provinces in the autonomous region of Malaga. There are a total of 17 autonomous regions that make up Spain. Within each autonomous region there are a number of provinces. Provinces are like counties in the UK.

Hi Shaun, you're on our fave beach, along with the small calas further on behind you. We live up in the hills near the city of Murcia, 90% of our neighbours are Spanish and we wouldn't change it. Sierra Espuña and beaches no distance away and as you say, half of the time I don't even know what day it is, so relaxed. Happy new year guys.
Good on you both Shaun. It was a brave step you both took 9 years ago and it paid off in the end. Well done. Wishing you both a Merry Christmas, cheers 🎄

Well done son enjoy nice to see your happy , I LOOK FORWRED TO WACHING YOU SEND YOUR TIME THERE but now the UK is out of the union how long can you stay in one go ?
Thank you Keith, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm a resident now, stay as long as I like but as a non resident, only 90 days, 90 days away and then you can stay another 90 days, some enjoy the best of two worlds
Omg Shaun I can’t believe it’s been 9 years since I started following your journey 😊 We bought and sold a home in Spain 🇪🇸 in the time you’ve been there lol 😂 it just didn’t work out for us as we were still working 🙁 My wife has retired and I do in 3 months. We chose to buy a new build home in the country but will return to Spain 🇪🇸 next year on long term rentals. Looking at Denia first as we found a 28 day rental in May for £720 👍🏻 Happy new year m8 😎🏴
Thank you Steve and glad to hear you've been following me all these years and sorry to hear it didn't work out but good you've not given up Spain. Denia I hear is a nice place and you've got a good price on the rental. Keep watching and happy 2025 to you both :)
The weather is not better in Málaga. 😂 Costa cálida weather is better. I've been living here 3 years. My auntie lives in Málaga. Weather is warmer in winter, more consistent in summer, and less rain all year.
@@dominic8218 It isn't a fact though. The fact is that the weather is better on the costa cálida. I've been between both places on the very same day many times. The temperature is always lower in Málaga, and I can count the amount of times it rains every year in my town in Murcia on 2 hands. I'm not basing this on speculation. What part of Spain do you live in?
@ I’m in Calahonda and I’m stating a fact. Malaga is Costa del Sol. Ask your family to allow you onto the internet and you can look it up. Merry Christmas
Thank you Jennie, if you're under pension age, you can pay into the Spanish health system depending on where you live. Pension age, you use your S1 (NHS) for health care. I had a new hip (£15,000) not paid for. You need to ask expert for more information about healthcare if moving to Spain.
9 years in Spain! and it's still sunny
At least they speak Spanish, thing that you are supposed to do with English in Britain if you want to get a name there.

Did you mean, I guess, Jaén is one of the inland provinces of Andalucía? The rest of them are Seville and Córdoba. 😊

Great weather there today I’m jealous. Do you have to pay for your healthcare or can you use their NHS now ?
