Randy Johnson the bird disintegrator was notorious for throwing 100+ miles an hour and he was super intimidating and that pitch added to that aura around him. People got out of the way when he pitched in on them.
Would love to see more baseball stuff and think you'd enjoy it too. Not as fast as hockey obviously, but I know you love skill stuff and there is a lot of that, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The funny stuff also becomes funnier the more you understand the game

As for the general population of people that truly know the sport, well..... a lot of people think they know it all, but the reality is.... the average attendance in Major League baseball is just under 30,000 fans per game, and i would be overly impressed if 10% of the fans actually knew the situations, options and planning that goes into each pitch, batter and scenario that happens within the game.
You are unfortunately correct about the elbow issues. The whipping motion puts a lot of force on tiny tendons and once they go, it's usually the end of a career. Much like race horses, all that force and repetition breaks the weak point eventually. I believe it actually happened in one of your reactions. The man made the pitch, it flew off to the side, and he immediately grabbed his elbow and started crying because he knew what the throw combined with that pain meant. Always sucks to see it because you know the emotional pain is going to be worse. This sport is their life so that moment must be devastating.
I was at that game in San Diego at 7:46 between the Padres and Mets when David Wright made that over the shoulder bare handed catch. Even the Padres fans stood and clapped for that one.
I can tell you this....the one where buddy did a flip over the catcher to score, I was watching that game live on TV. My buddies roommate just went off about how boring baseball was and 5 minutes later that happened! It was awesome

With Pitchers it's usually their throwing arm shoulder that goes after years of wear and tear. Knees are a big issue and achilles heel snapping. This last one killed my brothers career in the minors and he was do soooo damn well.
Fun fact: Fernando Tatis hits two grandslams against the Dodgers in that game and 21 years later his son Fernando Tatis Jr hits a grandslam against the same team I was amazed and pissed about it

You DEFINITELY need to see some of the plays when it was actually DANGEROUS to be a catcher... The MLB only recently (like the last year or two) revised the rules so that a base runner can no longer "CRASH" into a catcher and purposefully knock the ball out of his hands to get "home safe" called... AND a LOT of catchers have been severely injured in those "crashes". Baseball is a generally gentlemanly sport... a true sport where nobody's actually out to kill the opposing team members... AND sure, there are rivalries, epics and all... BUT nobody actually intends harm. It's the kind of sport that Dads and Sons could always talk about... stats, players... teams... penant chances... all stars... whatever. I've known a dozen guys who couldn't otherwise speak a dozen words to their old man, but they could talk baseball till they were blue in the face... Miner leagues or Majors... you get some pluses and minuses... I'll go Miners every time... for the fun of an event... and it's not just a ball game... it's an event in the Miner's... It's one of those things you should really just fly on over the pond and get involved in... Then you'll understand.... You know... I'd wager you find a fan, and any of us would pay your way JUST to see you there... shoe shines, belly dances with the mascots, and ALL the trimmings! ;o)
Elbow problems for pitchers are extremely common to the point where huge numbers of pitchers have "Tommy John surgery" to repair the ligament in their elbow - a lot of them actually have it before they even get to professional level. (There's a video that shows moments where pitchers elbows blow up, it's grim to watch to be honest!)
The one with Fernando Tatis Sr hit 2 Grand Slams in 1 inning which will never happen again it happened at Dodger Stadium against Chan Ho Park, it was St Louis vs L.A. Dodgers
There is indeed an issue with wear and injury to elbows and arms. There’s been talk of reducing practice time especially for young pitchers whose arms are still developing. Not sure if that thinking has gotten any traction.
