A good old mystery I'd like Katy or the other writers to take a crack at, is the dissapearance of The Righteous Judges of the Ghent Altarpiece. It's a centuries old painting made out of different parts. One part went missing/was stolen 90 years ago and still hasn't been found. Every so many years someone has a theory about where it could be and starts looking, could be a nice treasure hunt.

Mountak was the site where homless kids and street kids were subjected to EST and LSD when project MK Ultra was trying to determine if a perfectly reliable truth serum could be concocted or a perfect sleeper agent made through the combination of using electro shock therapy and drugs to wipe a mind and create multiple personalities. Especialy one that could be buried in someones subconscious and activated using words or a sequence of words and actions that would cause the buried created personality to activate and carry out a trained behavior up to and including assassination. They were espicially interested in learning if a person could be made through programed behavior or muscle memory buried in the subconscious, to engage in activity that goes against that persons own moral code or actions that would risk the persons life and be contrary to self preservation.
The truth about what happened at Mountack is far stranger than the fiction.

I lived in Long Island right by Montauk for a few years, I've been to the facility as well with a few friends when we were teens and poked around in the few bunker-like rooms that we were able to find and get in to. Had to go over a fence and all that good stuff. There was no guards as we were told there would be. In fact, there was nobody there at all. The place was mostly abandoned, there were lots military-style furniture pieces lying around and damaged papers strewn through the rooms in the bunkers. The place was weird and it gave us the creeps, mostly the layout was strange. Watching areas off of empty rooms etc. I don't know if the radar still stands.

I've been to Fort Hero, it's about a hundred miles east of me on the South fork of Long Island.... it's a big tourist attraction now, and although technically not open to the public, people walk all around the grounds ignoring the signs and knee high chains around the property. It's not very heavily guarded, if at all, and legends abound. Most of the stories behind it were taken from Preston Nichols questionable "non-fiction" science fiction drama novel, the Montauk Project. It's fascinating reading, but it's about as factual and accurate as Charles Berlitz's similar story, the Bermuda Triangle.
What lost it for me was when he tries to make claims that parts of the movie Total Recall were true also. If you ask anybody who grew up in the area, nothing he claims in the book is either true or verifiable.
It was simply a massive radar station built early in the days of America's involvement in World War II as an early warning defense system against invasion when a group of German spies who came upon land from a submarine stationed just a few miles offshore were discovered and quickly captured.
It was operational until 1980ish (I've heard as early as 1967), when it was decommissioned. It was then quickly emptied out and became a derelict and as long ago as the early 90s, it was "open" to, or at the very least, accessible to, curious onlookers (and apparently lots of teenage vandals judging by the graffiti which you can see on the Google maps photos).
The building is IMMENSE, a perfect cube about 300 to 400 feet per side and height, and the antenna is even bigger, about 500 ft across. A friend of mine and I went on a fishing boat and we were able to see it about 5 mi away!!
We wanted to go in and check it out, since the building is open, but a third friend of ours chickened out crying about what they said in the book!! 🤣🤣🤣
In fact, the movie of the same name, the Montauk Project, starring Bobby DeCicco and Michael Paré, is an adaptation of the book. Right down to the recreation of the vortex in the late 80s 😆😆😆

She still has long term effects, so I feel sorry for Simon’s friend. trivia: Lyme disease is named after Lyme, Connecticut (CT), where it was first actually diagnosed. CT is across the Long Island Sound from where we grew up on Long Island. It’s so close that you can see CT from the bluffs of Long Island and birds fly back and forth. On more Long Island trivia, troops coming back from the Spanish American War were quarantined at a hastily built field hospital at Montauk. There were so many troops that they couldn’t be in the base so we’re in tents.

A lot of the Superfund sites came from that period of time like the Manhattan sites, proving grounds, testing sites in Nevada and so forth were built and operated with little regard or understanding of the lasting effects of what was being studied at the time in favor of everything possible to defeat the adversaries.

During World War II the United States Navy bought most of the east end, including Montauk Manor, to turn it into a military base. Fort Pond Bay became a seaplane base. The U.S. Army established Camp Hero with 16-inch (410 mm) guns to protect New York shipping lanes. Several concrete bunker observation posts were built along the coast, including one immediately to the east of the Montauk Lighthouse. Base buildings were disguised so they would appear from above as a New England fishing village.

Why do you have such a detailed, great story, knowing the Pat Nichols story, not to mention that this is well known by many people. Why tell the whole story if you're sneering and remarking you don't believe it? I watched a video of some people who were there, the guinea pigs, and they go back to Montauk base. The one filming the various rooms there would narrate what each room was used for and it was very similar to what a few ex Super Soldiers (who had memories resurface) have told about. They were part of the Secret Space Program. I think it started in the 1970s.

Some years later, the same friend acquired a VHS documentary on the subject featuring interviews with Preston Nichols.
    Oh, dear.
Whatever credibility the Montauk Project had garnered disappeared as soon as Nichols opened his mouth. Although I suppose it's possible that his stilted speech and mannerisms MAY have been the result of many, many doses of clandestine mind altering pharmaceuticals, all it did was give the impression of a swivel-eyed loon raging at passing clouds and blaming the CIA for all his woes. If The Montauk Project was an authentic program, any evidence provided by Nichols would be immediately dismissed as fiction.

Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville NL was an American air base in WWII, and that definitely had tunnels and various bunkers dotted around. Most of them are long abandoned now, but college students love to hunt for them. I remember finding several doors to get into bunkers, but they were welded shut.

In an insane world Simon and his team are a refreshing dose of humorous logic.. apart from the dog thing, that's pretty bad but I'm sure he'll get one eventually... 🐕🥰

Believe it or not it is actually humanly possible to like dogs, love them even, but not want to live with one. Ever. I can say this with some level of authority as I'm nearly 50 and I don't see "eventually" ever coming. 😆🐶

@@Julia-uh4li The OP said Simon will get a dog "eventually." I replied that he might not, because some people just won't ever want a dog. For instance myself.

@@hanselmansell7555 My grandma's boyfriend was this grizzled former military truck driver dude who positively HATED cats and barely tolerated living with her beloved calico. Then one day she found an abandoned kitten in a parking lot, one so tiny it wouldn't eat solid food at first. But she had to work a lot and he happened to be on home leave, so he was the one stuck alone with it all day. It would waddle around the house screeching and he figured out the only way to make it stop was to hold it on his chest, pet it and talk to it. You know how this ends, ha. That thing grew to be the most beautiful Himalayan, named 'Boots' and the first thing his 'daddy' would do every time he came in through the door is holler for "BootsBootsBoots Bootsie boy!"
