Me too. He had a really good character delevelop for a background character. SSS Warrior Cat made me love him even more because his voice actor did such a good jobnwith expressing his personality.
This kind of makes me think about this condition often found in blind people who had previously been able to see. It's basically just them hallucinating swirling colors because their brain thinks it should be seeing something. I think it's an interesting concept to mess around with, especially with a character like longtail. He could easily be seeing things that aren't there, just like this.

Longtail grew from an annoying brat to one of the sweetest and most loyal cats, I mean he went back to get a piece of prey that couldve been easily caught later and died from it, and let's not forget when Mousefur died infront of him he wasnt just mad, he was IRATE, and he was one of firestars first enemies and now firestar's reaction to his death made my heart do a yeet
The really sucky thing is that even before the events of into the wild, Longtail was always a good person, but he was surrounded by bad people. When a warrior was suffering from greencough and on the verge of death and needs food for strength, Longtail helps to hunt for her. But Darkstripe convinced him to eat the rabbit they caught because he said they'd have the strength to get more. When the she-cat died Longtail wanted so bad to tell the clan that darkstripe convinced him to eat the prey they caught, but Dark threatened to tell the clan that he had eaten it too. Longtail must've been holding in the guilt and self blame for so long over the she-cats death that could've been prevented. Hell, Darkstripe had taken a bite out of the prey without even giving Longtail another choice.
Alternate Title: Local long boi is haunted by the cast of Watership Down and the friends he failed to save, is plagued by depressing thoughts, and with the support of his loved ones is able to conquer his inner demons and find peace. ... or, at least that's how I interpreted it. :P I think that's supposed to be Swiftpaw at 1:20 and Tigerstar at 2:27, hence the "friends he failed to save" part. Anyway, great work! You never fail to impress. :-)
When he finally caught the rabbit and it changed to have the pattern of his coat I swear my heart dropped. Poor long boy. (And as always I absolutely love your animations and style of story telling!)
@Lps Echo literally every single cat in the series hunts the prey of the forest lmao, either all the characters starve to death or all the characters actually follow predator instincts and live. every predator animal has to hunt for food in the wild, its called the food chain
Here's my take on this; Longtail's dealing with feelings of uselessness (themes of suicide, "close your eyes and you'll leave this dream) and he keeps thinking of the rabbit. I think at first, the rabbit symbolizes aspirations that someone gets caught up in, and also fate, or things that can't be changed. Something that seems harmless and tantalizing at first, but is more dangerous than you think. Literally, the rabbit blinded Longtail, and renders him "useless." (though he's far from it.) At first, Longtail is dreaming, and doens't know what the rabbit causes. He encourages swiftpaw to follow his "dream," to keep chasing the raggit. It lured swiftpaw away, and Longtail feels useless again, thinking that he should have tried harder to save swiftpaw, that swiftpaw was too caught up in his desperation to become a warrior. He relives swiftpaw's death, how the rabbit turns from prey to predator, a dog. It lures tigerstar away. Here, the rabbit is ambitions for leadership, and it also represents bloodclan, a lust for power. Now, about tigerstar and darkstripe, Longtail first tells a story about them to kits, I think. He also talks about bloodclan, due to the collar/teeth imagery. Then a kit asks a question that disturbs him (I don't know what, I think it might by something like "oh, weren't you friends with them? But weren't they the bad guys? Are you bad too? Idk, something that leads to him feeling like things were his fault.) Mousefur (I'm guessing that's her) tells the story from there, taking over for Longtail, who's sulking. She worries about him. Then, we see the rabbit luring someone else away. It's tigerstar. Longtail knows the rabbit is dangerous now, and tries to stop tigerstar. But he's not fast enough, he's not on the right side, he thinks. It's perpetually "his fault." Finally, the rabbit turns into scourge, who kills tigerstar in front of everyone. "I could have prevented this." is Longtail's mentality. Then, scourge is pinning down firestar, who Longtail is trying to save, the kittypet he had originally hated. "Why am I always not enough? Why can't I prevent the death of cats I love? Why am I useless?" These thoughts all chip away at Longtail, until he actually falls off his mental cliff. When he wakes up, he is comforted by Mousefur. In his final dream, I have two theories. First: he is face to face with the rabbit again. He will not run away from the rabbit. He will not try to keep running and chasing it down, only to find that he's been led into his demise. He runs up to it and kills it, but to his horror, the rabbit turns into himself. It's slow steps, first a nick in the ear, then body shape, then pupil changes, then stripes. All his regret and his thoughts that only he brought himself to this state have congealed into the rabbit. Second theory: In the final dream, he forgets some things, like you sometimes do in the surreal state of dreaming. He's back to his former self, no scars, no memories, and no learning. He only has some vague notion that the rabbit is something to be chased, used to be something to be feared, and is something that hurt him and his friends. He hunts it down, naturally, failing to notice that actually, the rabbit is starting to look at him. He catches it, thinking it's over. Finally, the monster of the rabbit is gone, right? Everything is safe, and nothing is his fault anymore, right? But the rabbit shifts into /him/. His desire, like everyone else's, has blinded him, and it is too late. Edit: I actually think that everytime he starts going into the palette white "dream state" He loses a bit of memories. "Oh, I'm back with swiftpaw? Sweet! He's my favorite apprentice. Or, "Oh, I'm back with the boys, tigerstar and darkstripe! I bet we're going to do all sorts of fun things we did back in the day." then, he slowly gains back his memories in vague, terrifying visions of the rabbit.
I /really/ like how when he starts gaining memories out of his dreaming stupor, the ribbons of light, or scent, start getting dark and crackly. And anothing thing, I love how he just keeps seeing the rabbit. Right before he lunges at scourge, he's like, okay, I'm getting revenge for him killing tigerstar. But as he starts chasing down scourge, he's chasing the rabbit again, and he freaks out. Every time he tries to go for something, he thinks it's going to hurt him or his friends. The rabbit might mold to his fears.
adDING ON- I actually think the ribbons are scents. Longtail catches the scent of the rabbit and "leaves swiftpaw behind." He catches scent of the rabbit and realizes that tigerstar is going to die. They move in an airy pattern. I love the attention to detail this whole thing has.
I loved the theories but now the whole text it blurring in my vision like when you see little red or green things when you look at the sun for too long- anywho, still a good theory! :3

Heres what i think is happening throughout the video !!!! im not gonna be like “i KNOW this is whats going on” because nobody but the original creators really do and can say that but i tried my best :-) So at the beginning firestar is talking to longtail about going to the new territories. Longtail says he wants them to go without him being he is blind and feels useless. He then goes into a dream/flashback and smells something. He follows the smell, hunting a rabbit. (this is the rabbit that blinded him btw.) suddenly his dream turns into a nightmare and he is running from a dog. He finds swiftpaw, his former apprentice’s corpse. Longtail wakes up from his nightmare sometime in the future from the new territories conversation. Lionpaw(?) and mousefur are with him. He starts telling foxkit and icekit stories from before they were born about darkstripe, tigerstar and how they were defeated along with bloodclan. Then i think lionpaw says something that upsets him? Maybe something about how he was friends with tigerstar and darkstripe? Idk. idk. Ill try to figure it out. But basically he turns away and shuts down. Grumpy old man. Mousefur tells them about how longtail stayed with the clan even when his two best friends left to be bad and evil. Longtail has another nightmare. Hes on a hunt with his former best friends, tigerclaw(star) and darkstripe. They smell the rabbit again and tigerstar takes the lead to chase it. Longtail knows something is wrong and stops. The nightmare takes a bad turn again and switches to tigerstar being killed by scourge. Longtail stumbles back off a cliff only to find his other former best friend darkstripe killed by graystripe. He sees the rabbit again before awakening in a start in his den near mousefur. Firestar walks by and comforts him, curling next to the panicked cat until he falls back asleep. When he falls back asleep its peaceful and he finally catches the rabbit, but once its dead in his jaws its fur takes on the color and patterns of his own. edit: just realized longtail started hunting with swiftpaw at 0:40 only to leave him behind and then find his corpse later in the same dream/nightmare
Bruh help I haven't been able to stop rewatching this after the premier ended. Everything about is absolutely HECKIN FANTASMAL, the color pallets are gorgeous, your art style is fabulous, and the idea in general is jbebjdkskbbeiifjebe I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS
The whole time watching I keep thinking “How? How are you able to create such dynamic pictures both in color and style that make it feel like a complex diorama?” Then I remember you’re super awesome, creative, and talented so it makes sense.
Do you ever think Longtail scolds apprentices when they bring rabbits as an elder? Maybe he can't eat them anymore and tears at them until Mousefur pulls it away and gives him her meal instead
ALRIGHT A YEAR LATER I THINK I GET IT. The rabbit symbolizes the various traumas Longtail has faced in his life. In his waking life he is grumpy and stuck in his past and so in his dreams he revisits that past. First the rabbit leads him to dogs and as he runs he sees Swiftpaw dead in the grass. He wakes up and tells the kits about Tigerstar and Darkstripe, he gets grumpy when they ask questions and Hollypaw explains he was once their friend. When Lontail dreams again he is back with Darkstripe and Tigerstar, they hunt a rabbit which turns out to be Scourge who kills Tigerstar. Then I think he runs into Darkstripe poisoning Sorrelkit. He confronts Darkstripe but wakes up in a panic after seeing the rabbit. Firestar I think is the orange cat who comforts him. And with that comfort he can finally kill the rabbit- put his trauma to rest as it was.
This has to be the most unique, creative and stylized warriors media I've ever laid eyes on. Plus your style feels in place with the music, and Longtail is one of the best bois :D
One of my favorite songs for one of my favorite cats, how perfect can this be? I love it so much! Personally I think longtail could’ve been blinded by something other than a rabbit- which is literally the saddest because it’s what they eaT- maybe like a hawk or something could’ve been better. This PMV made that a bit better though.
i hope this gets more traction, its the most unique warriors fan work ive seen in the past year’s time hands down, and also compelling and eye candy to boot. as an aside is it mousefur or firestar that comforts him throughout the video? with the unique color schemes and no character refs its hard to tell, but im pretty sure its firestar.
The way you showed the flashbacks- That hit me so hard. Makes me love Longtail more. I know that feeling... "Great, I'm with my best friend and everything is fun and nice." Then he shows up in her place and it all feels wrong. It's wrong. How you showed that with Longtail and the rabbit really hit hard and I want to say thank you for that.
There's the chorus of a song that makes me think about longtail's relationship with tigerclaw and darkstripe, It's called "Remember When" by Bad Wolves.

When I was younger, about 12, I was ABSOLUTELY in love with Longtail (not actually in love, he was just my favorite cat ever). Flash forward a few years to now, I remember why I loved him so much.
The orange cat in the begining is firestar. The orange cat with pink eyes is lionpaw, the two kittens are foxkit and icekit, and the plum cat is mousefur.
Longtail has always been my favorite character and the way you told his story just makes my heart melt- the colors, the dreams, the motif of the rabbit - I absolutely adore all of it! Incredible work!! ♡☆

LongTail has always been my favorite. I don’t know what it was about him. The young arrogance in the beginning of the books, the realization and his immediate choice of ThunderClan over TigerClaw. Literally everything. Such a subtle, but genuine example of a well fleshed out Side character who grows and learns even if they aren’t the main focus
Finally an amazing longtail pmv.. longtail is so underrated, he had a very interesting relationship with Darktail, swiftpaw, and his story was absolutely amazing.

I was thinking of Ivypaw and Hawkfrost for this song, but the Longtail idea is way more fitting!! Heres what i think is happening throughout the video !!!! im not gonna be like “i KNOW this is whats going on” because nobody but the original creators really do and can say that but i tried my best :-)
So at the beginning firestar is talking to longtail about going to the new territories. Longtail says he wants them to go without him being he is blind and feels useless. He then goes into a dream/flashback and smells something. He follows the smell, hunting a rabbit. (this is the rabbit that blinded him btw.) suddenly his dream turns into a nightmare and he is running from a dog. He finds swiftpaw, his former apprentice’s corpse. Longtail wakes up from his nightmare sometime in the future from the new territories conversation. Lionpaw(?) and mousefur are with him. He starts telling foxkit and icekit stories from before they were born about darkstripe, tigerstar and how they were defeated along with bloodclan. Then i think lionpaw says something that upsets him? Maybe something about how he was friends with tigerstar and darkstripe? Idk. idk. Ill try to figure it out. But basically he turns away and shuts down. Grumpy old man. Mousefur tells them about how longtail stayed with the clan even when his two best friends left to be bad and evil. Longtail has another nightmare. Hes on a hunt with his former best friends, tigerclaw(star) and darkstripe. They smell the rabbit again and tigerstar takes the lead to chase it. Longtail knows something is wrong and stops. The nightmare takes a bad turn again and switches to tigerstar being killed by scourge. Longtail stumbles back off a cliff only to find his other former best friend darkstripe killed by graystripe. He sees the rabbit again before awakening in a start in his den near mousefur. Firestar walks by and comforts him, curling next to the panicked cat until he falls back asleep. When he falls back asleep its peaceful and he finally catches the rabbit, but once its dead in his jaws its fur takes on the color and patterns of his own.
edit: just realized longtail started hunting with swiftpaw at 0:40 only to leave him behind and then find his corpse later in the same dream/nightmare

Do you ever think Longtail scolds apprentices when they bring rabbits as an elder? Maybe he can't eat them anymore and tears at them until Mousefur pulls it away and gives him her meal instead

ALRIGHT A YEAR LATER I THINK I GET IT.
The rabbit symbolizes the various traumas Longtail has faced in his life. In his waking life he is grumpy and stuck in his past and so in his dreams he revisits that past. First the rabbit leads him to dogs and as he runs he sees Swiftpaw dead in the grass. He wakes up and tells the kits about Tigerstar and Darkstripe, he gets grumpy when they ask questions and Hollypaw explains he was once their friend. When Lontail dreams again he is back with Darkstripe and Tigerstar, they hunt a rabbit which turns out to be Scourge who kills Tigerstar. Then I think he runs into Darkstripe poisoning Sorrelkit. He confronts Darkstripe but wakes up in a panic after seeing the rabbit. Firestar I think is the orange cat who comforts him. And with that comfort he can finally kill the rabbit- put his trauma to rest as it was.

One of my favorite songs for one of my favorite cats, how perfect can this be? I love it so much! Personally I think longtail could’ve been blinded by something other than a rabbit- which is literally the saddest because it’s what they eaT- maybe like a hawk or something could’ve been better. This PMV made that a bit better though.

as an aside is it mousefur or firestar that comforts him throughout the video? with the unique color schemes and no character refs its hard to tell, but im pretty sure its firestar.

The orange cat in the begining is firestar. The orange cat with pink eyes is lionpaw, the two kittens are foxkit and icekit, and the plum cat is mousefur.

LongTail has always been my favorite. I don’t know what it was about him. The young arrogance in the beginning of the books, the realization and his immediate choice of ThunderClan over TigerClaw. Literally everything. Such a subtle, but genuine example of a well fleshed out Side character who grows and learns even if they aren’t the main focus

Omegosh! I absolutely adore Longtail and was always trying to find animations of him!! It also stuns me on how you chose this song,, I've always liked it and I never ever imagined it with Longtail! I was thinking of Ivypaw and Hawkfrost for this song, but the Longtail idea is way more fitting!! Thanks for making this ;;) The way you portray the rabbit as a scary, unnatural creature to Longtail is awesome!! And the COLOURS!!! They keep me on edge the whole time!
