Really nice to see this, to get at least a bit more info about this treasured artist, and watch him working with the dancers. He does seem like a dream choreographer, in terms of dancers getting to work creatively, in collaboration with someone of such strong vision, and free imagination and fantasy. Glad to hear he's committed to ABT for such a long time (and I like it that he has the freedom and time to still go and work with other companies as well). He and Christopher Wheeldon create a golden age of ballet, just between them. I haven't even gotten to see all that many of either one's works, but enough to know I'd love to see it all.
I haven’t watched this in a while, but what I remember is Alexei is universally loved. He can get a dancer to do things they never thought they could do. Glad you liked the piece.
@@CaptainVideo13 I came here straight from watching this dance bit with Sara Mearns. His choreography is mesmerizing. th-cam.com/video/imiFrArZwvg/w-d-xo.html
6:16 wow and that derogatory tone... "I'm not putting on a dress" like that's the first ballet a man wears a skirt, tutu, dress etc. I can't stand that toxic "I'M A MANLY MAN DAMNIT" attitude some male dancers have, likely stemming from insecurity. They are employed in an art form of expression, don't like it- there's the door.
Perhaps you should have listened properly to what Mr Hallberg said before writing such a dismissive comment. This ABT principal then went on to perform in Mr Ratmansky’s ‘The Bright Stream’ to great critical acclaim. You are also referring to a dancer where the doors of every major international company were wide open to him, until he very recently accepted the Artistic Directorship of the Australian Ballet. I am also trying very hard to think of another ballet where a male lead is asked to wear a tutu, dress or skirt and only the kilt worn by James in La Sylphide comes to mind, as I wouldn’t count the ugly sisters in Ashton’s ‘Cinderella’ because there were conceived as a parody of pantomime dames.
Hallberg is gay and was frequently bullied growing up as a result. I think wearing a dress has a really different meaning for him than it does for others as a result. It probably reminds him of when he was bullied.
I've read many of your comments on various dancers, trans people, Venus Williams, etc. You are a very angry person. I am sure not a dancer -- most likely someone who had some training, but never got into a company and have become angry ever since. You probably lead a very empty life taking the most joy in leaving nasty anonymous posts on TH-cam.
Bob Morris and nobody REALLY liked Peters ballets. and this ratmansky isnt ABT. his ballets at city ballet are weird. and i wasn't accepted into SAB...the old building and going to SAB was,all I ever wanted.
Agreed on both. I am always amazed by the passion of young dancers -- pushing themselves to the limit. I am not sure how SAB chooses its students, but I have seen many who have not gotten into NYCB and some who don't get into any company. I must be very hard to work at something you love for 12 years and not have your dreams realized. Maybe you are better off. It is always better to look forward than back. Some things are just not meant to be -- better to let some stuff go. Sorry didn't mean to be sappy -- what do I know, I just make television shows.

This is so educational.

Many men would feel uncomfortable in a dress...it's really not bad like you make it sound.

kevin is ruining ABT just like peter ruined city ballet
