I was not ready for a "No Johns" in my Magic podcast, but I am here for it.
The difference between Sunburst and Converge is that Converge has a variety of effects depending on how many colors of mana you use to cast the spell. Sunburst only ever gives +1/+1 counters.
The real difference is that Sunburst is a keyword (has defined effect), Converge is an ability word (it means nothing, has to have the full thing spelled out).
And Sunburst can also do charge counters! (When on noncreatures)

Daleks used to not be able to fly (stairs were a problem), but that changed in the reboot (it was a shocking twist in one of the season finales).
I do hope we get to see a North 100 show about Doctor Who decks plus other supplemental sets from this year (like Aftermath, the D&D secret lair, the Commander Masters cards). Or maybe wait until the Fallout decks come out in March of next year
Wish they do it like pictionary in the future. Would be fun to include other guests to draw the cards for wheeler and nelson to guess
James would quiz people on cards that haven't even been released yet. this was the same man who made coffee, pickle juice, and hot sauce + milk popsicles after all.

I haven’t watched the whole video yet, so maybe you figured this out, but I think Nelson was remembering Cold Storage when he kept coming up with 3 mana for a land that can save your creatures.
And yes, I know Cold Storage is an artifact, but it has that same kind of effect.

Several Doctor Who fans just made a mistake in their knitting upon hearing James pronounce "Dalek" wrong.
As someone who deeply dislikes Alchemy; I think you should be able to both enjoy and talk about it withuot it messing up your metrics.
So here's some engagement to counter whatever it'a worth.
I dont know if youve seen collegehumor/dropouts 'Umm, Actually', but what if you show them mostly correct cards and they have to pick out whats wrong on it?

I haven’t watched Who in many years so the cards for recent characters don’t do much for me but the Daleks and Cybermen stuff look awesome. Also, I started seriously in Magic during Time Spiral so seeing new Time counter stuff is awesome.

River Song drawing from the bottom is amazing flavor considering a major part of her story is that the order in which she encounters the Doctor are in reverse of the Doctor, so the first time the Doctor meets her is the when she's already had countless adventures with him. This is also what "Spoilers" references as she says this any time the Doctor tries to tell her about things that haven't happened to her yet.
I didn't remember many of these, I even have Illusion // Reality in a colour-matters Commander deck. Golos is the commander, and when I tell people "You think I'm gonna spend 8 mana to cast spells that change colours of creatures or spells?" they usually let me play with Golos as the commander. It's generally just for the "ramp" and fixing. If they made a 5c Blind Seer I'd switch in a heartbeat.
I'm fairly sure the average mana value of that deck is about 3 mana.

I think around the 40k commander set was when my ability to recall the 20,000+ cards just started to fail

40k and now Dr. Who are the first time I just did not read any of the cards. I was like "No, I'm just gonna live my life pretending these don't exist."
@@NintendoMasterNo1 I have not kept up with spoilers and releases since around Throne of Eldraine. I know a couple here and there, I own a Necron wh40k commander deck but I could not name a single card from any other deck except the commanders

As someone with an IPA Cube: It's an absolutely terrific draft format. And while it certainly looks quaint compared to modern power crept nonsense, it includes some true bangers.

The best way to "read" the silmarillion is to get the audiobook read by martin shaw. Then repeat until you actually absorb the story.
At 5:37 where they discuss the Alliances rare ‘replacement’ lands they’re wrong-the cycle is not consistent re: whether they produce C or 1C. Only the blue and red lands produce 1C; Heart of Yavimaya and Kjeldoran Outpost both produce C (and Lake of the Dead is unique as mentioned).
Skyrider Patrol is such an interesting one. I thought of the same card that both Wheeler and Nelson were thinking of and I even played with the actual Skyrider Patrol yesterday... Weird how the other card just seems so much more like a Skyrider Patrol.

Most people are angry when they hear Alchemy, I'm just sitting here with hype and validation that Alchemy is even mentioned in a good tone.

People seem to think Alchemy is just spellbooks and specialize. Most Alchemy cards are simple effects we're already used to in Magic streamlined with the help of the computer, like not needing to shuffle or reveal for effects that would normally require them.
fun fact: despite nahiri existing in the set as an equipment synergy card, there are 0 equipment in war of the spark
"Alchemy" is a curse word for most Arena players. It is bad enough that they count all NINE versions of Nazgul as a different card that you "get" to collect 4 copies of.

As someone who has just finished Silmarillion (including the indexes), after first having tried over 20 years ago, well - I'm glad I did, but I won't be repeating that soon, as it requires a very specific mood to get through. (Please tell me it's easier with Unfinished Tales.)
Also, Illusion & Reality is not that bad, at least it's "strictly better" than Verdigris, and those were times before Oxidize and Naturalize.
I started the Silmarillion 3 times. The first 2 I only read a little bit, but the third time I read the whole thing. It's just a very difficult to read book. The comparison to the bible is really apt. Both are badly written from a writer's skill position, but have good stories in them.
@@Drecon84 I think I started two or three times before as well, never getting far past the Valaquenta. "The Rings of Power" made me read it to the end this time.I wouldn't say that it's "badly" written, it's just its ambition lie wholly elsewhere than in being an engaging novel. But it really engages the reader's imagination, since it's mostly a chronicle of names and events, so it's up to us to imagine how the characters' interactions could have looked like, or what they could have felt.

if there is one thing they did not do a good job on the LOTR set it would be the lore and the IP, considering they got Aragorn, one of the most important protagonists completely wrong. What a waste of an Intellectual Property
The IP was done great, especially Aragorn. There's also tons of flavor wins throughout the set.
