    I am laughing so hard everytime he says "From here, you can then talk to him and resolve your problem." After you've hopefully just broken his thumb or arm or elbow. That is absolutely hilarious.

    Great job. I myself am getting older and will be starting some self defense courses. The best story I ever heard was a young punk held up a senior man ( I believe 80) and the senior grabbed the gun from the kid and smashed him in the head with it and held him there till the police arrived....I would love to see the look on that kids face...priceless

    I am 70 years old very fit and strong for my age. You notice I said " for my age." When going to the gym to do weight training I see younger people lifting at least 20-30% more weight than I can do at max effort. Also my reflexes are not what they used to be. While I do not require a cane so this is not a good weapon for me, I suggest cane self-defense training for those who carry one. When I go to sketchy areas I carry a small container of pepper spray which can at least slow an attacker down. If I ever get into an altercation with an attacker and somehow get the best of him you can guarantee that I will continue to retaliate until he is totally out of commission. Anyone who attacks a senior is a coward and will may come back at you if they sense that they can.

    I’ve been doing martial arts since I was 16 years old. I’m an old man now. Time flies! Most techniques in martial arts will fail against multiple punches. I would suggest stabbing techniques with any objects to survive against ruthless attacks.

    Forgive me for being a pessimist here - but this works out great when the attacker is cooperative. In a real-world situation, I don't think an attacker will be so obliging when you resist him.

      Forgive me for having enough years of martial arts training to suggest that if even an Aikido 2nd year student gets you in a wrist lock, you will be obliging if you value your wrist. In fact, the greatest danger may be them simply breaking it from over-use of force in a panic. Visiting any Aikido school I'm sure they could give you a quick demonstration.
      Yes, beginners in any martial art are advised to not use them in defense unless absolutely necessary, but as everyone knows, there simply may be no better alternative than giving it all you've got to preserve a life including your own.
      Needing to distract an attacker long enough to get a wrist lock as shown when seated in the first example, I wouldn't, as a senior citizen, suggest going for a stomach punch, but somewhat lower down if you catch my drift which should most assuredly loosen their grip momentarily. As a senior citizen, I think it might be more possible to shock someone with a counter like this than many realize, thinking that they are an old defenseless person who will immediately surrender to any demand and least of all expecting an unhesitating and focused counter attack.

    We, as seniors, were not raised in a time where there was this amount of drugs, hatred, evil, desperation, and violence in strangers. We tend to live alone, and have less interaction with society. We see the reports on television, but NEVER imagine that it will happen to us. Therefore, we don't live with and walk around with the situational awareness that could possibly prevent us from attackers or home invasions. To protect oneself, we must see the attacker for what they are, they mean us no good. We must consider that they see us as an easier target, and not respond as such. This is a battle for our lives. When they knock us over the head to take our wallets or purses, they don't care if we live or die from the attack. There IS EVIL in this world, and IT IS EVERYWHERE. Be prepared for the worst, and you may survive anything.

    With extremely few exception most any self defense techique will work. HOWEVER one has to learn the very first technique or NONE other will ever work. The FIRST TECHNIQUE is a mandate; IS: Creating the mindset opposed to all the years of being programmed as to not harm someone else, ethier physical or mentally. And to perform any other technique learned with the sole intention of stopping the unwanted event regardless of how much they may get hurt the person inquestion and do it without any hesitation.
    The element of surprise of ones reaction to the event, will put them completely off guard. And subject their defenses to be down MOMENTARALY, thus one must do it immedately and without hesitation.

    You have to be realistic. What if you are in the Kroger's parking lot and a guy comes running at you claiming you stole his parking spot? You're out of your car; your gun is in the glove box. He steps forward to punch you. From my experience, an attacker who is angry will not try to grab you ... they will be swinging their fists or some object.

    • @BenjoReacts
      @BenjoReacts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pat Downs that is a good question. But, training enables you to react in different situations. Say, in your scenario, a simple side step and push can cause a aggressive moving attacker to lose his own balance. You train for mutable situations which enable you to improvise in most. Better than not knowing what to do. Like stepping into a punch will take the force away, for example. Knowledge is power

    • @joa8593
      @joa8593 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what the attacker wants to do. If all they want is to kill you, they often will grab you, suddenly from behind, and then stab like 20 times. Nothing can protect your against that. I remember some experiment some years ago where a bunch of martial artists from the classical ones mocked now to popular MMA and military combatives trying that situation and all of them got "killed". ("Killed" in quotes because despite the simulation, several martial artists have actually survived that. Notably the BJJ guy who stopped a terrorist attack on France, the terrorists gun jammed and despite being stabbed many times the subduer survived. It just takes luck.)
      If on the other hand they are pissed off and want to hurt you they may take a swing or garb you. If hit them back they'll just get angrier, but if you disengage and control them they may think twice.

  • @ric9759

    These techniques seem very unrealistic. Most people, of what ever age, have never been the victim of a violent assault. If they do end up being assaulted, god forbid, the shock, terror and anxiety is going to make it very difficult for them to zone in on a thumb and grab it and bend it in the such a small and specific spot. I won't even comment on how nonsensical the idea of talking to your attacker is after you have managed to expertly grab their thumb and incapacitate them. There must be ways that when someone is assaulted there is a reaction that requires far less precision but can stop the attacker or make him think twice and leave. It seems that in high stress situations the less thought needed the better. Aren't there more damaging techniques that essentially require brute force, like one hard blow somewhere (i don't know where, I'm asking) that stuns them long enough for the person to repeatedly strike them until they flee or go down?

    Here's what I have to say for people especially elderly people first work on your situation awareness then get yourself into shape do just a little bit of cardio and some lightweight training so you're in shape to defend yourself in the first place next I would say they buy pepper spray after all that then maybe learn some basic self protection eye pokes and all that stuff good luck

  • @345kobi

    These attacks are placed so that they accommodate self defense moves. Even at that they require too much precision. Most of this stuff does not work. I wish people who don't know would not teach.

    I understand that you are showing and explaining how to do the technics, one thing that might make it a bit more accurate would be to not say things like no this maneuver ill be done by a smaller woman to show how well it works, how affective it is etc when the person playing the attacker, bad guy what have you is clearly not trying, is not giving any kind of resistance and is falling and crawling and aiding the small laid to the point she might as well not be there. How is anyone to have faith in what you are training, are they suppose to see that it actually work, or know what to expect when doing it themselves. Please don't think I'm saying what you teach don't work, or is not worth watching, I just know if you were trying to get my grandpa's attention or following he would not take the time to say anything he would just discount you and anything you do for that one thing. Not only that he would tell any and everyone not to bother with you, only with a lot less flattering and expressive words. I not only thing what you are doing is not only not seen by enough of the right people, but some of the better quality and worth while I've seen yet. Keep up the good work and that's for what you are doing.

    You are assuming that the elderly person is in good health and basically good physical condition. Most elderly people (I'm not trying to be demeaning) aren't able to do these moves. Their reflexes are very slow and if they could do the moves they wouldn't have the strength to make them work. Also, most elderly people have trouble with balance and could easily be pushed over. Any fall would put them out of commission. I know many elderly people and even the ones in fairly decent health couldn't even begin to do any of this. Carrying a small stun gun or a small pepper spray would be much more helpful.

  • @mickcarson8504

    If you're attacked for nothing, I mean nothing, you have the right to defend yourself, even if it means you have to kill the bastard. Period. Nobody asked the attacker to assault you. The Law should respect the rights of every victim of crime who is attacked or assaulted and their only defence is to survive by protecting itself from the attacker. But usually this is no kid stuff, this is some serious situation where the victim could face death while being attacked. So, it's best to fight or flight. Sometimes you cannot flight and you don't want to be attacked or hurt either, but the choices are limited. If you fight, you're likely to be stronger and probably enraged enough to give the attacker a lesson that would be their last by being smashed to pieces by the victim of the attack or you could become quite shocked by the attack and try everything you know to defend yourself, even if it means you have anything as a weapon or a stick nearby and kill the bastard. What amazes me is the stupid Law who think the victim of such attacks is also at fault for killing him, even with a stone. Sometimes bare hands aren't enough, especially if the attacker is a big person. But the Law would probably still arrest and charge the victim for defending itself in any possible way there was without considering that nobody had asked or provoked the attacker to commit such criminal act in the first place.
    Which means, what are they actually protecting, the innocent victim that was minding its own business or the attacker who assault an innocent person that was minding its own business?
    Or, would they prefer that the situation to be the other way around, the victim gets mugged, probably hurt or killed, and then, the stupid Law starts spending taxpayers money to find, arrest, charge, then Courts, then jail to keep the attacker alive for the term of his sentence?
    It really makes not damn sense. Whatever a victim does to defend itself, he/she have to be careful not to hurt the attacker because the Law says so. You can't hurt him, especially a juvenile, or you'll get sued. In the past, bullshit like this was unheard of and attackers were equally at risk of being mauled by their victim. I've heard of some cases where an attacker thought an older man was an easy target and went for it, unbeknown that the old man had his only weapon, a walking stick. That attacker paid the price of having his face smashed in by the irate old man who was minding his own business before the attack and then left the attacker on the ground to lick his own wounds. The old man went home with a few bruises and scratches while a passer-by saw the attacker and called the police. The story of the attack was that the old man attacked the attacker because he'd lost his mind - a convincing story.
    But the unbelievable thing was that the old man was charged for causing serious injuries. This is where one need to ask this itchy question, what would you have done to the attacker, would you let him give you a hiding, steal your possessions, wallet, etc., and leave you on the ground traumatized and hurt, or would you fight back regardless who gets hurt or killed first?
    When you're in a serious confrontation with an attacker, fright sets in and you have the natural response to defend yourself or anything in your possession, your mind doesn't include the afterwards, the consequences, etc., it is naturally programmed to defend the body it is sitting on and not switching to sensory programs that says if you hurt or kill the attacker you go to jail. No, the mind doesn't work like that. The mind is designed and genetically programmed on two things, 'fight or flight', not 'don't hurt or you go to jail'. When you're attacked, you have these two instinct, either you fight the attacker or you run away. Everyone has this instinct.
    Sometimes there are no options but to do what the instinct tell you due to the circumstances you're facing, e.g. an armed assailant, a gang, etc. You might flight as soon as possible and as fast as you can but at other times, you may be cornered and unable to escape. What will you do? Of course your mind uses instinct to make decisions and not yourself. Fear is what diverts the mind towards instinct as a mean of survival. So, either fight for your life to escape or accept fate. (I've had several confrontation with attackers in my 45 years that I simply told them, you love jails, yes? I reminded then that jail is a place where they will rip their asses for as along as they're in jail. Most times the attackers had changed their minds and retreated).
    But in one man situation, it all depends on the victim's strength and ability to defend itself, but mugs usually look for weaklings, while gangs aren't too choosey, they will attack anyone they see as a loaded person but that is not necessary, as I have seen gangs even attack someone for mobile phones. I also know of someone who was mugged and phone demanded. the victim took the phone, in this case an old Motorola of early 90's, and instead of giving to him, he smashed it on the attacker's temple, sending him to the ground. The victim reported it to the police and was charged because the attacker said that the victim tried to rob him. Without witnesses, the Courts believed the attacker, the victim was charged and did 3 months in jail.
    It's sad to know that nobody is safe in the street these days, all because the Law is an ass.

      @abc456f 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a 58 year old man with a severely compromised spine, a physical confrontation with a younger, stronger attacker wouldn't end up good for me. I carry pepper spray as my first non-lethal choice to disable an attacker and get the hell away from them. I also have a self defense key chain, a 3.7 inch blade pocket knife, and if absolutely unavoidable, a 9mm handgun. The examples in this video are where the attacker really isn't attacking, he's simply grabbing a wrist or putting his hands on victim's shoulders. Not realistic. A senior would be completely overwhelmed by a young, aggressive attacker throwing fast, hard punches. Anytime I watch martial art videos and hear the teacher instruct the attacker to "put your hands here", it's not believable. It's not what happens in real life. Attackers are not cooperative like that and I believe this kind of training gives a false sense of security to the student. Get everyone padded for protection and then have the attacker come at the student with aggressive strikes. This will prove whether the student has the ability to fend off the attack. Not "ok, you put your hand here and let me grab your thumb, etc.". Totally unrealistic.

      Good idea carrying pepper spray but the problem is, if the attacker goes blind or loses an eye due to probable infection, or gets knifed or shot on the legs, he can sue you, no doubt about it. Like I said above, the Law is an ass. so, how can anyone be safe when mugs and criminals are protected, eh?

    • @abc456f
      @abc456f 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mick Carson yes...it seems the law is out to protect the assailant rather than the victim. But we have to protect ourselves regardless of the law. In Florida where I live, it's a mandatory 20 year prison term for just displaying a firearm unless imminent serious bodily harm or death is upon you. And while that may be subjective to me, it's objective to a jury. That's why the pepper spray is my first choice since it's considered non lethal force.
