Food banks should be for citizens..if you can't afford both school and food then don't go to school in Canada. The Canadian students come first because the food donations are made by Canadians for Canadians. We donate to help our kids. Indian students are not poor by Canadian standards. Our people are struggling and your CREATING A CRISIS for us in our home when you already have a home. For us Canadians this is our only home we don't have a back up home like these international students do.

@@Joeym1655 that is not right. International students pay tax after completing education and enter in to pgwp. Citizen kids don't pay taxes either. Both pay tax only after completing studies and enter into work . That still doesn't justify 5x fees.

@@devlupmedia you are incorrect. The parents of resident Canadian students have been paying taxes for many years before their kids go to university. In Ontario homeowners are required to identify the school system (public or Catholic) they want their property taxes to support. Canadian students from outside of the province also pay higher tuition fees than residents of the province. It's the same in the US foreign and out of state students pay more than residents. Studying abroad is a privilege for those who can afford it. If they don't have the finances stay home. Hopefully these students are aware of the financial obligation that this pathway requires - it is the most expensive. Nobody forced them to come. Other alternatives express entry temporary foreign worker or refugee claim.

In Scarborough, 95% of food Bank clients were not born in Canada. 72% of those people have been in Canada for less than 1 year. To be clear, i empathize with people who can't afford groceries, but we're not talking about a few international students using food banks. We're talking about food banks overrun with international students taking advantage of a charitable foundation. In Cape breton over 90% of people using food banks are international students. Call it what you want. I know you shouldn't discriminate based on race or religion, but this is a clear case of a new segment of people taking advantage of the generosity for others. Food banks are a last resort. Not a weekly shopping trip for people studying.

Canadians understand the purpose of food banks. They are for the homeless and people who are starving, not for international students to be able to save some money so they can party or buy new shoes or an iPhone. If you are an international student one of the conditions of coming to Canada to study is to have enough funds to support yourself in rent, food, and tuition. Much of the food in food banks is actually donated by Canadians who are not so well off themselves.

In my opinion, only Canadians can access food banks. If you are an international student, it is your responsibility to feed yourself. And that means buying your own food. Not stealing it from homeless Canadians. I understand taxes and everything are expensive. Every Canadian is struggling right now. But that doesn’t mean it’s justifiable for you to go to a food bank. I’m a family of 4 with a single mom who struggles every week with food but we’ve never gone to a food bank. You know why? Cuz we can still afford to get some food. If you are an international student, than that means you most likely have a house of some sort or at least live in residence. Which means you have some money. Therefore food banks are not for you. Remember the food at food banks are donated by Canadians. We are not donating it for international students. We are donating it for the homeless and disabled Canadians In our area who can’t buy anything. So I’m sorry but I believe only Canadians can access it.

I respect your honour and integrity and care you have for others. I’m unsure if this will mean anything to you, but I’d say please use the food bank when you need to. You matter too!
But I definitely understand it from both viewpoints. I had situations where my family needed it and used it in order to feed us until we had enough to get food, and also had a situation where I was self-admitted to a crisis care center and felt shitty for taking food because I felt undeserving of it.

me personally, I was born in Canada, and the understanding of food banks here is they are basically only for homeless/low income people, people living below the poverty line, etc. listen, I get it. Who doesn’t want to save money on food? Even people with lots of money love to find ways to save money on food. But most Canadians do not use the food bank in order to do that because it’s widely understood that it’s not for the general public.
I’m not saying that no immigrants should be allowed to use the food banks; a lot of people immigrate here for a chance at a better life, or maybe they are refugees from unsafe countries who are not wealthy by any means when they arrive and they need social programs like food banks to get their feet off the ground.
However, it is my understanding that international students need to prove they can afford to live in Canada without relying on the government programs that we have. So why are they using food banks? It’s just unfair to Canadians who have no other options for food when international students go and empty the shelves of our food banks.

I am an Indian, currently studying in a university in British Columbia. I had taken a loan to fund my education here. The loan amount covers my tuition, flight tickets, accomodation and other expenses like stationary and insurance. I also have a GIC which will take care of my mobile expenses and food. Now, I KNOW I am going to sound arrogant for saying this, but if you are not in my position DON'T COME. I grew up with a lot of privileges and my family's financial position is pretty much the reason why I'm here.
The opportunity to study in Canada as international students is exactly like how it is back in India. You come here for EDUCATION and not PR or citizenship. After your education is done, you are expected to leave.
These food banks are Canadian tax payers' money. As an outsider, you have no right to it.
Also, many white folks disagree with me on this. But I strongly believe that when you step out of your country. You are an ambassador of your country. Anyone suffering from hunger should have access to food. Young students who need food should first go back home. If the home you came from is too far away, rethink if you can afford schooling. Whether you moved to a new town, province, or country its the same thing. There is a cultural difference at the heart of this problem. How many hungry Canadian citizens do you see making 'free food' videos? It is not something to promote with smiling videos. Its human kindness for the needy that has to be repaid in order to continue. Take without giving bavck and karma kicks in.

Canada is no longer able support the international students because there are too many students. Canada needs to restrict the intake of international students based on factors like housing availability, Part time job availability etc. Canadian colleges / universities should not just focus on making money from these international students and then not able to even provide basic amenities like shelter, food etc.

First of all, It is not Canada's responsibility to support international students or anyone who are on a temporary resident status. The int'l education is made available globally by Canada as it helps Canada earn revenue through it, to boost economy and resolve some industries needing placement or shortage of workforce.
Second, I agree they should be more strict when processing the intake of international students.
Third, Colleges and education institutions are NOT RESPONSIBLE for providing basic needs like shelter and food. They provide quality education, that is their role as an institution. Temporary residents/int'l students are the ones responsible for their basic needs.

There are thousands of so called homeless lazy people who use the food bank system and spend their money on drugs. So rather than venting all the frustration on students why not make the food bank system better by making sure only the needy get the food. Obviously there are legit food bank users amongst students. Are you saying that every student is able to survive on 20 hours of pay, some on cash jobs, and pay off their loans? There is not even any guarantees of PR too.

International students can only come if they show proof of financial capability. Unfortunately not all are honest about their financial ability thus it is hard to sympathize with dishonest people. If its free its free.. thats it. How do we draw a line who is "really need" ? Students atleast study, they pay course fee.. but the so called homeless people, what do they do.. they also can go and work in somewhere.. do some cleaning job.. This is nothing but pure racism

Students pay their course fee which is charged by the university and it's up to an individual to fend for themselves.. Homeless people are being supported by the government with tax money as they are Canadian citizens. Don't be misguided 😊😊😊😊😊

Stop begging in a foreign country. Food bank is for citizens of this country. International students are not, they are here to study, if they don’t have enough funds then they should not embark on international studies, better stabilize yourself financially first. Stop exploiting a goodwill system

That is so disrespectful why I'm sorry we treat other people with dignity and kindness that we give food to them in their hour of need your mindset is extremely offensive and it's not racist to say that you are taking food out of people that truly need it wasn't there a TH-cam videos going around showing International students how to get free food even though they had no reason to need it I don't care if International students use the food bank but they shouldn't be taking advantage of it just to get free food that is the point we are trying to make I have volunteered in the food bank have you

What kind of attitude is that? Maybe do not go abroad if you cannot afford basic food? There are mentally ill, laid off or people with other issues who use food banks, Ukrainians and Syria asylum seekers who are literally running from war use food banks, you are in a different country...if you wanted to live like you do in India stay there, its a trust based society based on honesty of people. Don't scam them.

Why should india help if canada for earing more tution fees. it is making immigiration a joke And importing less skilled workers.
My friend from IIT is not getting studyvisa for good uni but i met a guy in delhi 2021 and he got visa in months for some bullshit global buisness analysis degree in a buillshit university
It should be a immigration officer duty to not give visa to these people who just go to canada just for getting driver jobs or low skilled jobs and start canadian life and brag here
Canada should only import what it needs if it wants tution fees and cheap labour be my guest
