F. The moves they’ve made against Palworld and emulation this year are an affront to the industry. Plus nearly all their releases are suffering from pervasive performance issues, and I’m still waiting on a fixed eshop and the return of Nintendo selects.
I’d give Nintendo’s 2024 a D. The only thing that saved the Switch this year for me was the console’s 3rd party and indie offerings, like the MVC collection, Pizza Tower, Balatro and Unicorn Overlord. Other than that, their first party offerings did absolutely nothing for me. Hopefully their 2025 offerings leading into the inevitable Switch 2 will quench my thirst until said system launches.
I'd give them a solid C. It's true that not much they did this year stuck out, but I think what they did do was pretty good! I'm much more positive on Mario & Luigi than y'all are, & I think Super Mario Party Jamboree was their biggest & best release this year! I'm trying to throw out the bias that you have to release a major single-player action/adventure game to have a good year. To me, Mario Party, Paper Mario, Echoes of Wisdom & Brothership were enough. As far as third party releases goes, it could've been better, but they still had a decent showing. Yakuza showing up after the devs outright said they didn't think the audience was on Switch is huge & cannot be understated. Switch also got a third party exclusive in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble! This probably says more about SEGA than Nintendo, but they've really been putting effort into the Switch where they can! I haven't really been paying much attention to Nintendo outside of Switch, but I do appreciate the semi-consistent NSO releases & the release of Nintendo Music. I do think Nintendo Music leaves a lot to be desired though. No credit to composers is a huge miss, & although consistent, the soundtrack updates feel mediocre due to Nintendo's absurd library. I'm probably never gonna get Xenoblade or EarthBound music on there at this rate... All in all, I really enjoyed this year for Nintendo, & I appreciated what it brought. The biggest negative imo is that the Switch really started showing it's age with constant reports of framerate issues, low textures, & long loading times. It unfortunately does feel like most developers, including the ones who made games for Switch this year, have moved on to better technology & had a hard time going back for the Switch's last hurrah. At least there's Xenoblade X; there's no conceivable way that disappoints!
People are being way too harsh - I give it a C+. Plenty of good games like Echoes of Wisdom, Mario Party Jamboree and they tried with Princess Peach Showtime but it ended up too easy/skewed too young
Removal: In the 1930s, schools removed the letter "E" from the grading scale because parents and students might think it stood for "excellent" instead of "failure". Schools also argued that "F" fits better because it starts with "fail".
Emio was HANDS DOWN my favourite Nintendo release this year. Obviously not everyone’s style of gameplay, but I really hope we don’t have to wait too long for a follow up.
I think Nintendo is smart expanding its business to a broader form of entertainment. We should remember that unlike Sony or Microsoft, who have a lot of different lines of business, Nintendo only lives and dies by its characters and worlds, which were introduced in videogames but don't need to be tied to games exclusively. Creating a Disney-like brand that can be enjoyed and consumed through different venues allows Nintendo to keep experimenting and even failing in some areas while others, like clothing, theme parks or lunchboxes keep strong businesses.
I love this time of year because I love when you guys do your end of the year awards, your predictions for the year, and you look back at your previous year's predictions. I think you should forgo the punishment for your 2024 predictions - Nintendo pushed back the Switch 2. lol
Nintendo pushed back switch 2 because of the feedback they received from developers back in 2023 when they were showcasing it to them behind closed doors. Feedback was not good and they didn't want a repeat of the Wii U

A lot of people started buying stuff on alternative consoles such as Steam Deck. It may not be significant number of people, but still some number, which is a loss to Nintendo however you look at it. @@Howitchewstofeel5gum that doesn't really matter when the overwhelming majority of sales is from Japan. They just announced they sold/shipped 2mil copies, in Japan they sold 1mil copies already on physical alone meaning there's at least 300-500 thousand digital sales in Japan.
Well as a company on its literal last year before new hardware drops, it was amazing. Another Code which was a crazy surprise just as Endless Ocean. Hi from Brazil! Yep, it's pretty pricey to buy original Nintendo products here because of the taxes, so people have to get 'creative'... Now we have the brazilian eShop and that made life much easier. we can get the digital games for a proper price, but if, like me, you prefer physical media, it's very complicated.
The Nintendo Playtest was the best thing they did this year other than Emio. It was such a fun experience (if you got to play it!) and so wonderfully odd! Cannot wait for the actual release.
One thing I see everyone missing is Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble which is one of if not the best Monkey Ball game and although people didn't like the multiplayer, I thought it was great! And this was a Switch exclusive from Sega which I'm sure was some kind of deal.
I lost a lot of faith with Monkey ball after they remade the GameCube one. It was clunky to play and they removed multiplayer… Like why would they do that?? So I haven’t even looked into the new one to see if they fixed that stuff
@Flareboxx Banana Mania has local multiplayer but the minigames and even the normal game feel worse to control than the GameCube ones imo. Banana Rumble having online multiplayer and co-op and feeling like the physics have been improved even more and being all original content is what really made this one feel a lot better in my opinion. It's already down to $20 on sale physically so would definitely recommend trying it

To your point about a lot of people playing games on other platforms that they would have typically played on the switch: I leaned hard on getting everything for ps5 now that I have been using remote play a lot with my steam deck. There’s just no reason for me to get the switch version because even when I played portably, it was usually only in the house, which I can do with remote play.
I cant believe you forgot UNICORN OVERLORD as a top third party game. Regardless if it wasn't an exclusive, it ran perfectly on Switch and was PERFECTION. GOTY imo.
From my own biased pov I saw someone mention the switch no longer having easy access Twitter video support hurt the longevity of the conversations around games in that major social circle at least, the amount of videos I saw there of pikmin 1 + 2 when they were ported was huge and made me think about those games way longer compared to any 2024 game from this year
@xKarenWalkerx Never heard that stereotype before. I'm white, but my dad was always really chill when it came to my life choices. People are WAY too generous when grading Nintendo. The question you need to ask is: if this is how every year looked, would I be happy with them? They deserved a C- at best. Most the comments I see openly acknowledge that they hardly played their switch this year at all because the games Nintendo put out were not great, and the hardware just isn’t up to snuff for the third party stuff. It begins with jokes and then leads to ACTUAL resentment. You both need to take a break from each other, and come back together and discuss a new work balance with better communication. I dont want to see this show end but thats where its headed if the communication isnt improved. I know others with corporare experience would agree with me.

These guys hate Brothership for the wrong reasons and have their facts wrong - most DQ sales are on Switch. They also dislike Pikmin etc.
It begins with jokes and then leads to ACTUAL resentment. You both need to take a break from each other, and come back together and discuss a new work balance with better communication. I dont want to see this show end but thats where its headed if the communication isnt improved. I know others with corporare experience would agree with me.
Having no Pokemon game this year is disappointing.
My favorite thing about 90% of third party switch games released in the last few years is how they're all on game pass as well for free 🤣
Nintendo fans grade out at an F minus
Krista is so annoying
“The most toughest” well clearly grammar isn’t your strong point lol
why are you being mean for literally no reason
@@coolsebastian It was a joke, hence the “lol” because Krysta mentioned grades and school. It’s all on topic.
