I used fresh parsley and you were right by saying that the chicken is not the most important thing but the broth and dumplings. Just tried your recipe. They came out great. I haven't had dumplings for about 20 years and was having trouble remembering what grandma used to do. Light, fluffy and very easy to make.
This is the way I make my dumplings!! I do use butter instead of the chicken fat but oh my they are delicious. They melt in your mouth. I don't like heavy doughy dumplings. So fast and easy. Thanks!!
God bless you katzcradul! You are my hero. I cried tears of joy after making this recipe. I hadn’t made chicken and dumplings for well over a year and hubby and I have missed them so much. The issue was bisquick. I used it for years to make my c&d. About two years ago, all of a sudden my bisquick dumplings began coming out too meaty. We do not like meaty dumplings. I did the recipe exactly as I’d always done so they must have changed the formula because they were awful. I’ve noticed they took the recipe off the box too. To make your recipe I used White Lily flour since it’s a light biscuit type flour, and these dumplings came out fabulous! I didn’t have chicken fat so just used room temperature butter and my pastry cutter to add it in the dry ingredients. I cannot ever thank you enough for sharing this wonderful recipe! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you for returning this most comforting dish to our table!

This is exactly the style of dumplings I was looking for. And using the chicken fat instead of shortening sounds like a great idea. They look delicious! Loved how you said at the beginning that these are not the rolled out flat dumplings. Lol.
You have done everything they way I was taught to make chicken and dumplings. My family was from Kentucky. The fluffy dumplings are the best! I also like the amount of broth as well. Plenty of broth with the dumplings! I cook my dumplings ten and ten. Ten minutes with lid on and ten with it off! Also I am fond of chives in the dumplings which adds additional color, as well as, taste. So many options! Thanks you great job on the video.
I have no idea if you're still active but nearly 4 years ago now I tried your dumplings and I never ever changed it to any other recipe. They're absolutely fluffy and they soak up so well. Perfect! I didn’t have chicken fat so I used canola oil and I skipped the parsley but they turned out soooooo good. And my husband is a dumpling connoisseur so I needed to get them done right. Thank you again!

Thanks! I had to remember how to make the baking powder dumplings. I lost the recipe passed down from my mother and her mother and so on. Another version I've used is to get a dry packet of the chicken and country gravy and mix them together adding chicken broth. Then you can throw in some frozen mixed vegetables, shredded rotisserie chicken and then top it with small biscuits in a can. I believe I got that recipe from "A Man, A Can and a Plan."

Thank you for sharing your recipe! My mother made dumplings, but they didn't always turn out fluffy. She said that she got the recipe from our Grandmother (her mother-in-law) and said Grandmother's dumplings were always fluffy. Mom tried in vain for years to get hers to stay fluffy. I'll bet Grandmother didn't tell Mom about that one secret ingredient to make them fluffy - which I think is the baking power! Your recipe works every time!

I grew up on chicken and dumplins and dad always made the fluffy ones. Mom never even tried to make dumplins - she made chicken and rice lol. But dad was a dumplin master, and he took his secret literally to the grave. It was the one thing he never divulged to us kids, who all went on to become master chefs of southern cuisine. I've never been a fan of the "slippery noodle" dumplins, so I'm glad to see some fluffy recipes. Thanks! (oh, and we just as often had dumplins with squirrel and rabbit)
Every fall i come back to find this video because they are the best dumplings i've ever had. If i want to be lazy i just sub softened butter for the chicken fat. Can't wait to have these tonight!

katzcradul I have made my teenage daughters US ‘biscuits and gravy”, we call them scones but my daughters and husband liked the taste, I served this with pork chops and stir fried veggies - ha ha. I know US folks have it for breakfast.

Yes it is, its a shame most people dont use all the chicken! Or think that the fat cant be used. Thats pure flavor in my op i wish they sold just that cause you can use that for literally any dish except desserts well theres probly sum dish that has sweets and chicken but ehh dosnt sound to good lolol
13x the recipe yo. But thats a lot of scooping and simmering. Maybe piping it into the broth in chaffers or hoterl pans would be faster for large groups .

You can also used full fat Mayo as a substitute sooo good. And coconut oil too

Thank you for sharing your recipe! My mother made dumplings, but they didn't always turn out fluffy. She said that she got the recipe from our Grandmother (her mother-in-law) and said Grandmother's dumplings were always fluffy. Mom tried in vain for years to get hers to stay fluffy. I'll bet Grandmother didn't tell Mom about that one secret ingredient to make them fluffy - which I think is the baking power! Your recipe works every time!

Like both types of dumplings but really love the fluffy style AND with carrots and celery in the broth. Agree that the real appeal is the dumplings with a bit of chicken & vegetables on the side - thanks for posting.

I grew up on chicken and dumplins and dad always made the fluffy ones. Mom never even tried to make dumplins - she made chicken and rice lol. But dad was a dumplin master, and he took his secret literally to the grave. It was the one thing he never divulged to us kids, who all went on to become master chefs of southern cuisine. I've never been a fan of the "slippery noodle" dumplins, so I'm glad to see some fluffy recipes. Thanks! (oh, and we just as often had dumplins with squirrel and rabbit)

PrepperA, who I haven't seen in 7 months due to the pandemic, is coming home from college tomorrow and requested King Ranch Chicken for dinner, so in preparation, I cooked a chicken today. I won't need all the broth so I got the idea to go ahead and make chicken and dumplings sometime in the next week. You're so right! Fall is precisely when you start wanting it. katzcradul I have made my teenage daughters US ‘biscuits and gravy”, we call them scones but my daughters and husband liked the taste, I served this with pork chops and stir fried veggies - ha ha. I know US folks have it for breakfast.

Yes it is, its a shame most people dont use all the chicken! Or think that the fat cant be used. Thats pure flavor in my op i wish they sold just that cause you can use that for literally any dish except desserts well theres probly sum dish that has sweets and chicken but ehh dosnt sound to good lolol

13x the recipe yo. But thats a lot of scooping and simmering. Maybe piping it into the broth in chaffers or hoterl pans would be faster for large groups .

So that's what I'm doing wrong! I was taught to bring the broth to a rolling boil common not to let it break or the dumplings would go heavy, but my only having anyway. I can't wait to try this! Thank you!
