      Dean, they are both good at showing us the many moods of the Thames River 😊 & the beauty & history of bits & pieces. Like you my country is young in one way, ancient another without a long written history of its original peoples. 🇦🇺🇺🇲🇬🇧

    Living in the United States I find every tiny bit you find that has age amazing. For me to find something equivalent it would have to be from the early inhabitants, such as the Taos people. I’m coming to London (TLW) in May of 2023 and am so exited to see the buildings and architecture of Shakespeare’s time. History enthralls me and I have family that traveled from London to the US in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. To be able to identify the time from which those shards came from is so wonderful. Enjoyed your post.

    • @OLDFATHERTHAMES
      @OLDFATHERTHAMES  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cerwelt! Thank you for your kind comments. We certainly are very lucky here to have such rich - and ancient - history. You will have a fabulous time in London. Make sure you spend lots of time in the old city. There's so much to see!

    You are a hardy soul to go out in all weather's! Thanks Marie. QUESTION: does the Thames gilding stay, or does the brass return to dull?

    • @OLDFATHERTHAMES
      @OLDFATHERTHAMES  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Annette! You can't separate a mudlark from her mud, even in the worst weather! The brass returns to dull after a while, also you can polish pins, I guess? 🌊 ⚓️

    I stole a fork from Trafalgar Tavern…
    Hmm Deja Vu.
    Well nevermind the steal,I repurposed the fork to use as an eyebrow scratcher.
    You know,when you get that persistent eyebrow itch,and when you go to scratch it,it’s always just out of reach?
    My unpatented stolen fork gets the job done.
    Caution:
    Do not operate stolen Trafalgar Tavern eyebrow scratcher whilst driving a car or helicopter,lest you plan on sporting a pirate look,eye patch,and all the accessories needed.

    • @OLDFATHERTHAMES
      @OLDFATHERTHAMES  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hah! I'm sure the owner who is one of your national brothers will forgive you for the theft and praise your ingenuity in the new eyebrow scratcher! 🌊 ⚓️

    The Thames is the most mucky river in Europe don't you wear gloves.

    • @OLDFATHERTHAMES
      @OLDFATHERTHAMES  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Angel! I don't wear gloves, although a lot of mudlarks, you will have noticed, do. I am careful about what I touch, and if I have any wounds etc. It is true that the river carries many nasty bugs and illnesses, so we must be careful. I do that at my own risk...and if you think about it, the river is used by a number of people in a number of ways, not least canoeing, kayaking and rowing, who also, in the majority (from what I've seen) do not wear gloves. Definitely up to the individual, though! 🌊 ⚓️
