More people should run a metal zone on lower gain, say 9 o'clock on the knob, and then boost it with an overdrive, with the gain in the same spot, IMO. Especially if you run that in parallel with an actual amp or a more natural sounding preamp pedal, it sounds so good. I used to double track a Zoom multi FX set on the plexi amp sim, and just boost the crap out of it with an external overdrive pedal with the gain turned up a small amount. Then I'd just run that same overdrive into my metal zone, and then run that into an outboard ART Tube MP/C Preamp, and in both cases that went straight into an ART SLA-1 rack power amp, feeding my 4x12. I'd just mic up the cab, and then all I had to do was reamp the DI into both setups, one after the other. A pedal like this would have made it sound so much better, and been much more convenient, in comparison to that rack power amp, lol. Would have been cheaper, too.
@@aussieb1416 yup, the guy from Crowbar infamously uses it as dirty boost like that, in front of either a Randall solid state amp, or a JCM800, depending on the album, with the gain on 0 or just barely nudged up above 0, volume turned above unity, and then use the EQ to sculpt the tone. The Metal Zone is never TRULY clean, so even with the gain at 0, some dirt and character is still present. If I'm not mistaken, SNK, a boutique amps and pedals maker, makes a 300 Watt clone of that Randall. Also, back when I still had my Behringer UM300, I experimented with using it that way, and then I still put a Tube Screamer clone (TO800) in front of it with the gain at 9 o'clock. Today, I'd probably do that with my Precision Drive. I already do that with a Joyo Uzi. It honestly sounds pretty awesome like that, into both the dirty and clean channels of my amp.
This is awesome! Its great to see more standalone power amps. I recently got a Hughes & Kettner Stompman. Its got a Sag and Resonance (which I believe is another word for depth) control and a solo boost. I'm very happy with the H&K Stompman, but I think its great to see more affordable, better sounding power amps getting attention. Especially one that has a more metal look to it.
Hi, cooles Review.
If memory serves correct, I recall a couple of other creators stating that it was voiced more with analog pedals in mind. Still, I'd love to such as well. I'm really liking what the Anti and Knuckles are bringing to the table.
@ right, but I want to know what, if any, major disadvantages there will be for digital units. I have a Knuckles and this would be awesome if it worked well. I think I saw Daniel say something in a thread about turning down the presence for digital units, but I could be mistaken.
@@mofongotron no worries: it works great with these! You can still use the presence and depth for fine tuning but just go lightly on the and you'll get a great power amp for modeling units as well :)
Both mics solo sounded a million times better than they did blended. Somebody else said phase issues, and I see you replied that you checked it, but something in that blended sound ain't right.
I will never buy a pedal when it is using a Type D power amp section unless it is over 200 watts. An average tube amp at 30 watts into 8 ohms will put our 95dB. It takes 2 or 3 times that wattage from a Type D or you still may get wiped out by a mic-less drummer who will put out 95dB even when laying back. Reviewers should buy a cheap $20 dB meter and tell us what we are dealing with. I still play many small clubs 75 to 200 sq meters without nothing but mics for singing and without a sound man. I recommend 95dB as a minimum. I also do my own sound check. I stand in the middle of the club with a guitar wireless on and get levels to match ...plus I check the dB levels with my cheap meter. It works every time.
I totally agree, however to be fair I don't think this pedalamp was designed for jobs like you describe. In my opinion it's a perfect poweramp for a backup-rig or a stage where the stage volume doesn't matter because everything is miced up etc.
@@DomeNightbearer at first beacuse i have mangaed a tweeter on my speakers i thoutght was mine the problem but i have seen others videos and there's not the problem. strange
I checked the audio as well and both tracks are perfectly in phase visually... Soundwise a shift of 1 sample might sound a bit more pleasing. that being said, my editing program might have done funny things
@@DomeNightbearer it sounds like the first time i tried to edit an ir and i accidently left the reaper fade in on it i love how it sounds it adds depth to my amp sim and i put it on my bass guitar and it brings back the ring that iv lost from having dead strings
My Aion VH Drive pedal would love this thing. Like having a 60 watt Ampeg VH 140.
2:20 haha, damn i was fighting for my life lifting a 212 up a staircase. U made it look easy

Lichtlaerm just be killing it. Definitely something i can see myself grabbing this year. Great fly rig option.
I am a knob twiddling, too many delay pedals, clean amp player. Don't know how I got to this video, but it's fascinating.

turn down the distortion and use it as an eq. it's very good.

What I'm most curious about is how well this power amp will work with digital solutions (like the Universal Audio amp in a box pedals).
If memory serves correct, I recall a couple of other creators stating that it was voiced more with analog pedals in mind. Still, I'd love to such as well. I'm really liking what the Anti and Knuckles are bringing to the table.

I agree, it is how it is. Phase is absolutely accurate 😅 But future videos won't have this kind of struggle 😉
Actually... I'm sure my video program screwed things up. I try to fix it later today
Volume wise, would this hold up along side a 50w tube amp in a band setting?
probably not, because tube amps are always way louder.

Its a practice amp, also this would be perfect addition for a split sound where you use one amp for lows and this smaller amp for highs
but it's me or i hear some phase issues?
I thought this as well, but I doublechecked with the Voxengo sample delay plugin and that's the most in phase sound I could achieve!
I think there is but its cool sounding like the ir from nin broken
