Auto breath charging is obtained when you reach the "Total Concentration" or final stage of breathing. This is obtained by using gourds that you can buy at the Butterfly Mansion. The bigger the gourd you use the more progression your breathing gets.
Definitely you don’t need to manually breathe with total concentration aka level 3 breathing because it passively does it for you. You can also breathe in at extremely fast rates if you breath manually in conjunction with you passive breathing. Plus, you get 115 breath to use on moves. In my opinion, that is DEFINITELY worth it.
