Rookie question, did you ever need to remove your crampons because you ran out of ice? The crack climb looked like there was only ice on one face.
Suggestible to take rope access training before going into alpinism?
Start with a basic mountaineering course focussed on ice axe, crampons, then take avalanche awareness, then take a rope skills course, with 2-4 mountaineering trps in between. indoor/outdoor rock climbing can be done in parallel
Didn't realise NZ climbing was so wild
NZ has some very wild climbing if you look in the right places - especially Fiordland!!
