full play-throughs with 4 players can drag sometimes. I prefer the play by play format. The drawback though is you don't see the politics play out, which can be interesting too
great vid as usual. fun to see the progress as each vid evolves though. the life total over the commander pic is way better than i had suggested. good job. The banter added when describing the plays; "Uncharacteristically let's everyone draw a card off of Jace" is awesome. just wish i knew these guys a little bit better IRL. keep up the good work
+MTG Muddstah for sure! i was agreeing, just saying it's even better than going back to your hand! i love Meren. my favorite (and most expensive haha) deck
I've been posting a lot of EDH videos like this, mostly Two Headed Giant. My production isn't as good as this, but I plan on getting a wide angle lens and finding a better way to mount my camera soon. Feel free to check it out, let me know how I can improve.
I know it's not really relevant, but I'm really curious; at 5:11 that looks like a Desolation, not Contamination. Am I just being crazy? Fantastic video! :)
Interesting. When the video started I thought Bottomless Pit was a very suspect choice for Meren and it turns out that was the case this game. Good match guys!
Thank you! Haha, tell me about it. I've had Pit out a few times to get success, but this wasn't one of those times. It hit waaaaay too many relevant cards.
Halophilic NC I'll ask Adam next time I see him if he's got a list. He runs two versions of Derevi. This was his "fun" version and not the competitive one lol.
At that time, my"fun" Derevi version had no orb effect. I had no choice to include a winter orb since the new reprint though. This is the current list: deckbox.org/sets/1438238
Bryan Lariviere Haha, I kinda got that-- just thought I'd play along. :) My friend plays Rafiq and has the same problem of getting him to stick if there's anyone with answers because he's so overwhelmingly threatening just by being on the field. Got any tips for her that I can pass along? :D
Is there any way we would be lucky enough to get a deck tech on Evil Adams Derevi deck? I have one myself but it is much more oppressing. in another video I heard this is a more lenient version of his normal deck.
I realize the video is old, but how did he cast Aven, and do things at the end of Kevins turn when he has grand abolisher on the table?? Did I miss read the card?
Man, have you set to zero the experience counters when Meren died? Why?? Is not written anywhere, not even in the Oracle! BTW, I love your videos. Keep up the good job.
This is true for creatures on the field, but Grand Abolisher does not affect abilities from outside zones. Some other viewers looked into it and technically Adam was allowed to do this.
+MTG Muddstah yeah even though I know what my all my cards do I still misplay a couple times each game but thats how I learn I guess.on the side note Ive read online that its possible to get phyrexian devourer really big and sack him to jarad. Is that possible or wouldnt phyrexian automatically die when he reaches toughness 7.Ive been wanting to ask a fellow meren player this cause Im still iffy about it.
+Peter Parker ive been thinking that you would have to sack phyrexian to jarad first and then in response get him really big before he gets sacked but Im not sure if the rules would allow that
Saying that Adam is a cheat is a bit extreme. I'll admit the three of us should have caught that, but it was one mistake. If anything, my misplay by missing the Meren trigger was a bigger issue in the game than that.
+MTG Muddstah after doing some research, grand abolisher does nothing to abilities from a zone outside the battlefield. Great videos sorry for being extreme on Adam. Keep making great videos, man!
No worries! I appreciate everyone who gives me feedback. I just get a bit defensive when people criticize these guys who are nice enough to let me record our games.
The target isn't a choice, but beyond that it's a choice: "Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may destroy target artifact or enchantment." The keyword being may.
Any and all activated abilities are at instant speed. As long as you can pay the cost, you can do literally any activated ability at any phase of any players turn. Even on their upkeep, end of turn, in the middle of a spell stack, whatever.
Derevi how ever powerful her activated ability cannot be used on the turn of whoever controls grand abolisher. Also with Iona naming blue stopped derevi from being cats at all
Unfortunately, neither of those cases are true. I appreciate people watching for mistakes though! Grand Abolisher: 9/22/2011 Grand Abolisher doesn't stop your opponents from activating abilities of artifact, creature, or enchantment cards in zones other than the battlefield (like cycling abilities, for example). Iona: Derevi's ability is not a cast, it's an activated so she isn't stopped by Iona being on the field.
While in the command zone, Derevi is not a creature (but rather just a card) and is therefor allowed to use an activated ability. Iona naming blue would stop Derevi from being cast, but not from being put into play from the command zone.
We had a guy like that in our group that used prosh every time, it just got old, especially when others are trying out new decks going against an already established deck. It just seems like it would be in everyone's interests to force Adam to diversify a little bit. I like your channel but just tired of seeing Derevi every time
I got the same comment from my playgroup and this how my Rackdos deck was born. It is obviously not meant to be competitive but it use both color I play the least in Magic ( black and red ). Derevi also follow a few house rules. I never include an infinite combo and I only play one card that don't let the lands untap ( winter orb ) with zero way to fetch it. Counter spell are popular in my playgroup, and when I face 2 or 3 other deck with blue, this is the only deck that stand a little chance of winning. My last deck is Kozilek and not many peoples enjoy playing against it. ( I don't even enjoy it very much ) We had other game filmed with my other generals, but I think they were too short for Muddstah's requirement =) Derevi is much slower.
I like playing against Derevi. I can understand people wanting to see other decks, but I'm not in a position to tell people they have to build a new deck, haha.
adam roy I run both Kozilek and Derevi as commanders for my decks. I'd be interested in comparing Kozilek lists. I just added a card to mine after a year of not touching it, That Which Was Taken. It's a solid pick to put a divinity counter on a "Nevy" disc. I run it alongside Paradox Engine, so I can keep putting divinity counters down throughout the turn.
"With all hope lying on Kevin's shoulders, he plays an Island.......and passes his turn."
Seriously, the commentary is clutch.
I really like how quick this video is compared to other commander videos
how so?
full play-throughs with 4 players can drag sometimes. I prefer the play by play format. The drawback though is you don't see the politics play out, which can be interesting too
i read your comment wrong. i thought people were quick to compare it to other commander videos. not being a grammar nazi, im just dumb.
I* I* Commander* Not* Grammer Nazi* I'm*
Thanks for doing the commentary and saving us time, it made it way more entertaining. Also, I hate mana flood
You're welcome! Ya, it's brutal when you just can't draw anything but lands.
great vid as usual. fun to see the progress as each vid evolves though. the life total over the commander pic is way better than i had suggested. good job. The banter added when describing the plays; "Uncharacteristically let's everyone draw a card off of Jace" is awesome. just wish i knew these guys a little bit better IRL. keep up the good work
Excellent video. I enjoy the fast paced commentary.
Just discovered your channel and loving the gameplays! Also props for the Danse Macabre in the background!
It's one of my favorites and it was royalty free. Talk about win-win!
really enjoy these videos! keep them coming!
I love your EDH videos! More please!
I really like this format of video. You have gained a subscriber
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Great video, i love when people play commander not online, you have a new suscriber
Thanks!
man you missed so many triggers from Meren, maybe playing a fleshbag marauder each turn could have change things
I've only just realized that I missed at least 3 - 4 times to return him to my hand. Not my strongest moment haha!
you'd only return it to your hand at most 2 times anyway, then you'd be returning it straight the battlefield!
Ya, but it still would have helped I'm sure. Live and learn hehe!
+MTG Muddstah for sure! i was agreeing, just saying it's even better than going back to your hand! i love Meren. my favorite (and most expensive haha) deck
How'd Derevi survive the hit from Rafiq when he had infect and attacked alone?
Great video, keep up the good work!
I've been posting a lot of EDH videos like this, mostly Two Headed Giant. My production isn't as good as this, but I plan on getting a wide angle lens and finding a better way to mount my camera soon. Feel free to check it out, let me know how I can improve.
Sure thing! I love watching EDH games.
I really enjoyed the music. Danse Macabre. I very fitting choice with Meren as a commander.
Haha thanks!
I know it's not really relevant, but I'm really curious; at 5:11 that looks like a Desolation, not Contamination. Am I just being crazy?
Fantastic video! :)
Could you post the link to the Derevi deck? I'd love to look and take footnotes from it. Awesome Meren deck too.
The "Wow!" alone was worth the Like.
Is it possible to get a deck list link for Adam’s Derevi deck?? Tysm!!
I tweeted it to you!
archangel doesn't have haste right @ 5:10
Interesting.
Any chance we could get the Derevi decklist?
Halophilic NC I'll ask Adam next time I see him if he's got a list. He runs two versions of Derevi. This was his "fun" version and not the competitive one lol.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Great games-- Brian's playmat is boss!
Bryan Lariviere Brine*
Bryan Lariviere Haha, I kinda got that-- just thought I'd play along. :)
My friend plays Rafiq and has the same problem of getting him to stick if there's anyone with answers because he's so overwhelmingly threatening just by being on the field. Got any tips for her that I can pass along? :D
Interesting choice of scene on the horse cartoon playmat
Haha, you did. It was pretty much the first thing he said when we started recording.
+MTG Muddstah the price of glory online
Good ol' days miss em ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Is there any way we would be lucky enough to get a deck tech on Evil Adams Derevi deck? I have one myself but it is much more oppressing. in another video I heard this is a more lenient version of his normal deck.
It is indeed the more lenient version. I'll add this to the list!
MTG Muddstah I love you. subbed
Great Videos, i like your Sense of Humor 😆
What happened to meren's fleshbag? It should have been recast and recast
Is Meren the pic in the opening?
I realize the video is old, but how did he cast Aven, and do things at the end of Kevins turn when he has grand abolisher on the table?? Did I miss read the card?
The Aven Mindcensor was a bit of a flub on our part. I mean, it was Evil Adam playing.
Thank you
That derevi starting hand tho
Man, have you set to zero the experience counters when Meren died? Why?? Is not written anywhere, not even in the Oracle!
BTW, I love your videos. Keep up the good job.
No no no. Please don't follow my example in this game, haha! I played quite poorly and missed so many experience triggers with Meren.
Well done!
Thanks!
If i had sat down at this table with meren and seeing 3 blue decks (especially derevi) i would've scooped it up.
Anyone has the Derevi list?
you guys also were letting derevi be put into play whole grand arbiter had a grand abolisher which says you can't activate abilities of creatures
This is true for creatures on the field, but Grand Abolisher does not affect abilities from outside zones. Some other viewers looked into it and technically Adam was allowed to do this.
+MTG Muddstah you still missed when he cast aven mindcensor
True enough!
you guys should use mana web lol it would be interesting
No way, you're from Montreal?
I am indeed.
would of loved that starting hard with meren.I would of tutored for survival of the fittest and start the necrotic ooze combo.
Ya.... it was a great hand - just not well piloted this game lol!
+Peter Parker ive been thinking that you would have to sack phyrexian to jarad first and then in response get him really big before he gets sacked but Im not sure if the rules would allow that
i think sol ring is still good for 2cmc,
That isn't a very good Rafiq deck by the looks of it. Would love to see more of it though.
love it
Thanks!
8:19 Um... Adam shouldn't have been able to play Derevi during Kevin's end step because of Grand Abolisher. I had to stop watching after that.
Agree this Adama guy is a cheat and you guys need to say something
Saying that Adam is a cheat is a bit extreme. I'll admit the three of us should have caught that, but it was one mistake.
If anything, my misplay by missing the Meren trigger was a bigger issue in the game than that.

No worries! I appreciate everyone who gives me feedback. I just get a bit defensive when people criticize these guys who are nice enough to let me record our games.
Your video are really well done, great job. I also thought grand abolisher should have stop Derevi until I saw the Oracle ruling.
Aura shards isn't a may ablith it's a must ability so it will kill it self if there are no viable targets
The target isn't a choice, but beyond that it's a choice: "Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may destroy target artifact or enchantment." The keyword being may.
OMG, you can Derevi at EOT?! O.O
Any and all activated abilities are at instant speed. As long as you can pay the cost, you can do literally any activated ability at any phase of any players turn. Even on their upkeep, end of turn, in the middle of a spell stack, whatever.
man the derevi players' nails .....I can't concentrate
Woooooow
derevi
Hey I got a Derevi
Derevi's very strong!
MTG Muddstah
I prefer ULAMORGY
Smiff Haha! The Derevi player has a pretty nasty Kozilek deck. Hopefully we'll be able to film it at some point.
Kozilek=Ulamog?
I'm not much of a Derevi player, but I have a mono colourless deck (and commander) that use ulamog.
Derevi how ever powerful her activated ability cannot be used on the turn of whoever controls grand abolisher. Also with Iona naming blue stopped derevi from being cats at all
Unfortunately, neither of those cases are true. I appreciate people watching for mistakes though!

playing Meren and returning nothing... lol
Not exactly my strongest showing for the deck lol!
+MTG Muddstah i play meren as my commander deck. having flashbag every turn in the begening would have helped alot
Oh it would have, definitely. I think moving forward I'll be playing a deck at least once or twice before trying it on camera, lol!
+MTG Muddstah to be honest the black and green color combo in an format is known for lots of triggers
Adam uses derevi way too much
He has 3 EDH decks, and it's his favorite. I don't think you can fault him for playing what he likes.
We had a guy like that in our group that used prosh every time, it just got old, especially when others are trying out new decks going against an already established deck. It just seems like it would be in everyone's interests to force Adam to diversify a little bit. I like your channel but just tired of seeing Derevi every time
