@4:06 they are but hercules even now and days is considered to be a true hero of humanity, he is the champion of redemption and justice.
in alot of people kinda aspire to be like him, nice, kind and strong a protector of the weak.
so its easy to see why they are being ungrateful
herc is the best of both humanity and gods
while jack.....
is the worst of humanity, hes human scum who killed 7+ women in the course of 1 summer, and put the grips of fear and terror into london.
he is arguably one of the the top 3 worst humans in history.
so really it was a battle of humanity/justice/morals vs sociopathy/psychopathy/immoral behavior.
its a classic tale hero vs villian only in this case the villian was on the side the hero should be on.
don't get me wrong while jack winning was a good thing, he's not a good person [or at least this jack isn't until after herc died and he found a friend in him]

@4:10 that scene right there is masterful writing, jack just off the high of winning is expecting cheers for his victory, instead all he hears is boos [or in the case of londoners silence.]
as he walked away, his last words of that panel were "i hope we meet again someday, my friend."
jack learned to be more empathetic to others because of herc hugging him over finishing him off.
its masterfully done even if i wanted herc to win.

it shows herc really is a hero, even if it meant taking the L/dying he was gunna save jacks soul one way or the other.
