I've always felt that pool scene with Walt Jr was pretty rough. This show is really good at making you feel uncomfortable, which I mean as a compliment.

Hannah is really nailing the breakdown of this show. "Heisenberg is the cancer" is maybe the best summation of Walt as a character.
This episode is really the first time we see what being Heisenberg means to Walt. It's all about his feelings of power, control and need to feel important. That's why there's this over agressiveness to anyone who challenges him in any way. It's also why he seemed almost sad that his cancer was in remission. His cancer was his excuse to turn into the man he really wants to be. Without his cancer he no longer has an excuse and he just has to go back to being regular old Walt.
"Stay out of my territory" My favorite scene in the series. Love the song too.

That pool scene is all about Walt taking control and power it’s amazing he wants the respect that he deserves from his son who looks at hank as more of a father and his wife thanking Gretchen and Elliot though Walt was the one who payed it all and worked for it all it’s one of my favorite scenes and actually there is so much more going on with this scene that I didn’t even cover
Totally agree. The speech and the drinking scene confused me at first and was uncomfortable to watch, but later when I understood where Walt was coming from, it made perfect sense. Such a raw, real, scene. Kudos to the actors as well. Amazing scene.

Fun Fact: The tweaker in this episode is played by the actor Shannon McCormick who is quite heavily affiliated with Rooster Teeth. He plays two pretty big characters in both of their flagship shows. Agent Washington in RvB and Professor Ozpin in RWBY.
I just thought it was interesting considering how he has had many small roles, including this one, and it was a shock to see him playing such a role. I mean, technically there were three bald people in that territory scene since Shannon is also naturally bald.
Hannah has an incredible mind for reaction content like this. I always look forward to her take on this show and she should be a staple in as many videos as she is interested in participating in.

When I was diagnosed with terminal Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma I spent months getting ready to die. Closing out my life by saying what I needed to family, friends, my girlfriend. Just saying goodbye. Then I went into remission. My dad was so happy. I was pissed. I walked around for the first time in my life being angry. It wasn’t until a year later when a counselor told me that I closed out my life and what I was feeling was a confusion of how to restart my life again. That’s when I realized I was walking around as if I was gone. I didn’t know how to restart my life. I really always related to Walt’s reaction to going into remission.
Hannah is a blessing in this! I'm going through Breaking Bad for the first time and semi-rewatching and hearing all the analysis, especially hers is really making me enjoy the experience! Thanks for doing this guys :)
I was waiting for your reaction to this episode. That scene when he says "Stay out of my territory" it's just perfect. It's my favorite scene in the entire show.
Before his encounter with the guys in the van, you can hear the beep of his heart, and it stops when he put the pails in the table to go and face the guys in the van. Meaning that there's no turning back; you are no longer Walter White. Heisenberg consumed you.

When you realize that Walt says money is not a problem but then refuse getting help with the installation. Walt would rather fuck up the installation at the cost of his family suffering than having someone else install it. Same thing at the pool, he would rather have his son suffer because of him than his son being happy because of someone else. "doing it for the family btw xd"
I didn't read it that way. Walt's wanting to do it himself is just another part of taking his power back. That's what men do, build things, fix things, with our own hands. As for the pool scene, any father would feel emasculated over their son looking up to another man and admiring and respecting them more than themselves. That's just human nature.
I agree with you it's not all about the family, his ego is a large part of it, but I think most men's egos are a large part of what they do whether they admit it or not.

You three are the perfect trio for this series reaction. I've been enjoying this way, way more than I anticipated.
Vince Gilligan is too good at what he does, the symbolism with the cinematography, the color pallets, the objects is so far beyond what anyone has done with any show or movie for that matter, everything has purpose, no thread left dangling and if it is it's explained later on and no plot holes, Breaking Bad is the very definition of a perfect show.
"Over" is arguably the best breaking bad episode in my opinion. It contains a lot of my all time favorite moments(hank walt and walt jr drinking and the ending moment with walt vs the knock off jesse and walt)
The observations you all make are really enjoyable to listen to.
also a very nice detail in the hardware store scene when he put the WHITE paint cans down he went from being Walter WHITE into becoming HEISENBERG⚗️⚗️😎

The rotten boards under the house is a metaphor for Walt and Skylar's relationship. Their relationship has issues and holes from all the lying and they think they can sweep it all under the rug, move on, and be fine. But just like the foundation of a house with holes and rotten wood, it may last for a while, but it will eventually collapse unless it is repaired. And Walt is so fixated on repairing the house that he forgets to repair the relationship.
Would you say that maybe this is the story of not one, but two addicts?

The summary of this episode...."Chemistry is the study of change....Growth, Decay (rot), …..and then... TRANSFORMATION"! The title "Over" has multiple meanings...the tie to the other 3 episodes with the pink teddy bear cold open, but also that Walt's former self is now "over", and he has now changed over into Heisenberg. His old life is gone.
I love how psyched Jesse is that Walt's cancer is in remission, so cute.

I’m the exact opposite. Living in Phoenix for a 3 decades has taught me to appreciate my first Northeast Ohio Winter. I can always find a way to warm up. In 117 degree weather during the day and 106 degrees at night, it’s a chore to cool down.
Nahid is on to something with the alcohol scene. If you think of the bottle as a symbol for drugs and its distribution, Walt is supplying a drug to a 16 year old, with a DEA police officer trying to stop him (to no avail, liquor through Hanks fingers). Flynn/Walt Jr "kept up" with 3 drinks (3 more seasons). Agreed that Walt was full blown Heisenburg that scene. Excellent scene, symbol and summation of whats to come.

A lot of relationship experts and authorities in the field of infidelity make a great case that, for a lot of people, infidelity is more about the cheating partner filling a part of their life that feels empty rather than compensating for an inadequate lover. This is especially true for people that have recently received bad news or some threat to health or livelihood. In the case of this show, it applies to both Walt and Skyler pretty equally. Walt is dying, so he feels alive when he's in control and calling the shots. He feels valued by the network he's built up in the drug community one thousand times more than the people in his regular life. For Skyler, she feels trapped by the circumstances of her life where her husband is lying to her, their financial situation is in shambles, and she's facing being a single widowed mother soon. It's not surprising that she would feel drawn to a man that finds her attractive even in the last term of her pregnancy, that radiates confidence, and at least appears to be financially stable and well-liked and respected by those around him. Walt feels alive by breaking out of his box. Skyler feels alive by breaking out of her box. If you condone one, you kind of have to condone the other.

I just realized Skylar and Walt are alike in this episode. They both feel trapped by circumstances following the good news from the previous episode and try to relieve the pressure by seeking distractions (Walt's obsessive home repair and Skylar's flirtation with her boss).

Well I'm afraid you're going to have to because that is going to be a while. Fortunately there is a ton of other great episodes to see them react to inbetween now and then.
Watching Breaking Bad for the first time is a once in a lifetime experience that can never be replicated. Honestly it's not that bad that they're savouring the experience. I binge watched all 5 seasons then binge watched all of better call saul (3 seasons at the time) to fill that empty hole in my life that Breaking Bad once filled then I finished binge watching better call saul and had to wait like a year for another season.
I made a “it’s not a tumor” joke/ reference in a college Biology course 5 or so years ago. Some people laughed but I have no idea if they knew what I was referring to because I was in my 30s and they were probably college freshman age. I saw the movie growing up, but, did they? No idea
