This is truly one of her most beautiful songs to me.... chills, every time again. Thank you to Nigel Kennedy on the violin. The overwhelming warm love, big enough to watch over her, big enough to let go of her, wow!
The parent letting go of his child the first time when teaching them to swim, the mental image of the water being so deep and dark to a young child, the metaphor comparing that to a loving relationship is just beautiful. The violin on this was by Nigel Kennedy, he was the darling of the popular classical music set when this was recorded and his strings are brilliant. He was a massive Kate Bush fan since he was a child and was so happy to have a chance to record with her.
Great reaction. I don't know why this track isn't discussed more, It's one of Kate's most beautiful songs and feels like a continuation of the lush aural landscapes that she created for The Ninth Wave. Every time I listen to it I'm just swept away. I'm so pleased that a whole new audience is discovering Kate and her amazing body of work.
Yes! Right. Should definitely be discussed more. I love the message and emotion in this song. Truly beautiful song and thank you so much for your kind words. Happy to hear you enjoyed the reaction
A beautiful song, her voice was meant to blend with the strings, and her production choice of bringing a sense of tonal overload was the right choice. The strings threaten to drown you, great waves rising and falling. The music press criticised The Sensual World for being overproduced with too much layering and tonal density. But we know Kate and we know why it sounds full and ripe to the point of bursting....because it is SUPPOSED to. Just as The Dreaming sounded full of extreme contrasts, stark and fractured, because it was SUPPOSED to. Hugh Padgeham of all people should have understood that instead of running from the sessions with his hair on fire because the 'crazy girl was making a mess putting everything on every track" Boo Hoo Hugh....Lol!!
