Hey, thanks for this video. Going to fly the first time with my own board in a few weeks and I was allready getting crazy about how to protect my board the best way during the journey. Your video helped me a lot. :)
    Best regards

Great content. Also, putting your favourite board in the middle might be a good idea.

How much does all of that extra stuff add to the overall weight? I usually travel with four boards and always seem to be right at the weight limit.

Great content Dan! I do something similar, but I use a lot of cardboard all over and avoid any internal material that can contract pressure on the boards. I also always photograph the boards before they leave to have a record in case I need to discuss later with the airline.

There's a guy at the Uluwatu cliff that makes really sick custom board bags! If you buy a new board out there and need to fly it back home.

Only thing I'd do different is make sure those chunky wetsuit zipper is facing up away from your board 🤙

I don't think a tripod should ever be in your board bag!
Imagine 3 or 4 other board bags goes on top of yours, or the handlers pull, shift and slide and that tripod ends up in the middle and in the rails. a bump, or the bag sits on the sides and your rails are done!
Also if your board bag is heavier by packing it with other stuff other than boards picture yourself a luggage handler and don't have a clue about surfboards. The heavier and inconvenient to carry the more they will trash it. It's already a big inconvenience and making it heavy is just more troublesome for those men.
So my board bag only has boards and leg ropes and spares and wetsuits, that's it! I'll have extra bubble wrap to cover the problematic area's like tail and nose and rails and deck is all covered by an extra layer of double xxl layered bubble wrap.
Other stuff will go into your regular luggage, pay for extra luggage or upgrade so your allowance is higher.

Thank you! Sick mate! Excited for ya... Yeah I travel from place to place so I always just have a wetsuit with me, but if you don't want to take them, just use a coat, or some jeans or whatever larger stuff you've got with you :)

I cut a couple of pool noodles down the middle and duct tape to the rails for some extra protection.

From experience, I try to not stuff a bunch of clothes in my bag, it makes it way heavier

Yeah, that's true for sure!! For me, it doubles up as my suitcase, so I don't travel with any other checked baggage!!

Great video. How about suggestions on the best types of automobile roof top surfboard straps to take along with you incase you need to strap your surfboard on a taxi? What have you found to be the best alternatives?

If you could choose just 2 boards for a six week Indo trip. What boards would you choose for a intermediate surfer?

Pyzel Ghost and Phantom! Did a trip to Nias for a quick swell chase 8 to 10 ft Nias and had the Ghost for the grunt of the swell and the Phantom when it was smaller. No need to get used to after changing with the 2 boards, as they have the same DNA and design philosophy.
