French planes are actually very good up until 9.0 when you are forced to play against 20G missiles without flares until you reach 10.7 or something like that. But despite the French aircraft tech tree being pretty good overall, you can still clearly see that the snail hates them, because the French Alpha jet is on the same BR as the German one, despite having no flares, less rocket pods and worse cannons.
Ngl, this makes me kinda thankful I spent about a total of $100 (AUD NOT USD) on this game. Honestly, even if it took a year, it was worth it because of all the laughs, tears, happiness and anger this game gave me. Also such a great community where we are all cooperating and working together against the devs lol.
A-35 should be flown as a fighter or a dive bomber. Keep altitude, and get good at gauging what angle/distance you can successful drop your bombs at. You get 6 .50 cals this thing is great for head ons you just need to be a bit smarter with your bombing strategy, but I understand it is hard without a bomb sight.

Because realistic gives much better rewards, like, maybe 50% more meaning if you get 5,000 silver lions from arcade, you would get 5-6k from realistic. And realistic is more fun in my opinion

The French air force is pretty good, although we're talking about a 20mm cannon in 1.7. Otherwise, from 3.3 / 4.0 it becomes a miracle.
