I like the poco allegro a bit more poco. I've played this piece, and the first movement is very catchy and even beautiful, but unfortunately the rest of the sonata is mediocre... at best... like the great bulk of Hässler's work. The second section of the presto especially comes across as almost a first draft... the player can make improvements just from practicing it a few times. Having so carped, this is a very fine performance... Mr. Sgrizzi made the best of some pretty weak material.
agree. The first part is wonderful but I like to play it a bit more slowly to bring out the melody. The second part I think is fine played faster and not as good as the first part. There's a reason everyone knows Beethoven but not Hassler. :-)
Can't be... this is from an analog recording made in 1964, released in the US as a Musical Heritage Society LP. If you listen, there's some surface noise, but actually it's a remarkably clean transfer.
No, although the influence of both W.F. and C.P.E. is evident. The date given in another video is 1776, which is actually surprising. Hässler lived till 1822, and this sonata has some "romantic" elements, although not more than Haydn of the 1760s and 70s.
No, it's a transfer from an analog recording made 50 years ago. If you listen very carefully, there is some surface noise, but the record is in excellent condition and the transfer is superb.
Masterful momentum and impetus...breathtaking....BRAVI Maestros Hässler & Sgrizzi !

Digital fortepiano? A wonderful sonata, thanks for uploading. The first movement a little fast for me, but still a very good performance.

@@oldionus Thanks for clarifying. Great sonata
Isn't this W. F. Bach...?
