  • Here it is L.A. Sanitations first Amrep N3 arm!
    This truck was orignally bought with the original Amrep arm but they decided they wanted to test one out so they swapped the arm.
    Its been a while since this truck has been bought but it finally found a route! Thanks to a few inside sources. ;) I was able to finally track down this beast after months of asking and wondering where it went. Overall I can't complain, it does somewhat suit L.A.s conditions. From what I heard the N3 arm is built more toward easier maintenance since there are less sensors and breaking systems for the cart system. As well as it being substantially lighter by about a few hundred pounds I believe. Overall I think the city couldn't have chose a better spot to put this on route extremely compact and lots and lots of trash. Well I can blab all day about this truck but what do you guys think?
    I hope y'all enjoy!
    A personal thanks to the driver for his kindness and professionalism in those streets with impatient not so smart drivers just simply making his job harder. He handled it really well with cars just coming out from blind corners and always trying to get in front of him.
    Thanks again to the driver and the City of Los Angeles Sanitation for making this possible.
    =Please DO NOT use my videos against the drivers. These videos are NOT made to get drivers in trouble, solely entertainment purposes only. That is something management should be addressing themselves using their resources not mine.=

    Awesome video! Absolutely love how this truck has to deal with the arm slowing down at the top and is still able to flip those lids. very fun to watch!

    think Mike is correct about the timing being the biggest factor in lids staying open or shut when the N3 is through with them. awesome driver and stellar filming here, I'm a major fan of 14:30 and onward, how you stayed on the tilt portion even as he lowered the carts.

    Haha glad you were able to head out there and find this truck! Wow! What a cool truck! I was quite surprised to see it flip lids and the speed of the arm was much faster than before. I was also quite shocked and surprised to see LA finally use this truck on route. I'm also surprised to hear they're gonna buy more of these after hearing that a lot of drivers hated this arm. Man so many insanely long lines of trash too, it's actually pretty sad in a way. I hope to find this truck sometime this summer as well. Great footage! Can't wait to see more of these pop up!

      Thank you Kevin! Yeah im sure its just warn in now or they tweaked it a little lol. It is sad to see those lines but it is nice for the video. It was probably 80% recycling in those carts. In the few I looked in the whole cart could have been dumped in the recycle.

    So... You're the first one to film this! I was wondering who would be first to film LA's new N3s. Really like the speed of this one, and I'm also happy that it flips lids. After some of the other videos of the N3 arm, I was getting a little scared!

      I guess I am! I figured this one would be flipping lids by now. I think it just takes a little while to break them in. :) Thanks!

    And people say N3 can't flip lids lol. So this is a south LA truck? Driver looks very familiar to me. I think I've filmed him before in an Amrep Octo, if it truly is him. Arm moved pretty fast which made it a lot of fun!! Great job!

      @trashmaster684  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol I know. I was almost thinking it was going to flip only a few but I was wrong! I don't think Amrep will ever make an arm that wont flip lids unless you dont want them too of course haha. This one is pretty close to not flipping them though. Thank you!

    Future of LA Sanitation if what I hear is true. And I couldnt be happier either. I really like these and this one is particularly smooth too which is awesome to see. good stuff, Ive been waiting for someone to track one of these down. theae things move through a line of carts so much more efficiently than the older versions too, especially compared to modern versions of the previous arm. I hope this arm takes Amrep to the next level.

    I figured someone else would get footage of 206 before Tony, Kirk and I did, as we planned to do so sometime in these weeks following the South LA Open House where we got the route. Nevertheless, awesome video. I don't think I've ever seen an N3 open nearly every lid on its route, then again this is after all an LA truck ;). Did you happen to ask this driver's opinion on how he likes it compared to the regular arm? I personally won't mind seeing more of these around the city once their next order comes in. In terms of the actual trash in this video, it really can't get more South LA with lines of overfilled black cans probably full of recyclable materials and the occasional blue can full of trash. Speaking of which, brings me to a question that no one has ever seemed to be able to give me a straight answer on... Does South LA take all trash to an MRF to be sorted?? Otherwise I don't see how in the world the city can claim to recycle 76% of its trash. Besides that, thanks for sharing this unique footage. Did you ever happen to see my video of 36270 in West LA? We are finally starting to get in the 2016 units, slowly but surely.

    • @trashmaster684
      @trashmaster684  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you thank you! Unfortunately I didn't ask but when I asked to film he said, "Yeah, as long as you can keep up." Lol so I guess he likes it.
      I always notice the single huge unflattened box in the recycle. Well you asked the right person. :) Sadly L.A. only MRF's its recyclables. This all goes to C.L.A.R.T.S. in South LA its just a huge transfer station then it ends up in one of our many local landfills. All trash picked up by LA sanitation gets a free ride to the dump whether its a strait trip or a few different trips it gets there. I think its calculated by volume. I really don't understand that either. Plus, that 76% is always different a different percentage everywhere you look. What L.A. actually dumps the most commodity wise is trash, then yard waste, and lastly recycling. & yes I have seen it about damn time lol. Im surprised you guys didn't get all the CNG trucks. Thanks for commenting!

    • @trashmaster684
      @trashmaster684  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SoCalGarbageTrucks Very disappointing but I guess that's what it is. I almost feel like the city kinda gave up. Lol you sure about Athens? That new mrf still landfills like 60%. Recology or crown are the ones to actually sort the best believe it or not lol. Solutions? Well we can't educate people so I think the city should just mrf both trash and recycle but they shouldnt mix them they should take them to separate mrfs to prevent further contamination. Or we should do what SF does and just give everyone a 30 for trash and ticket them when they contaminate. lol I think that works best. I mean the city hasn't even started a curbside organics program like everyone else seems to be doing. At this point I don't think we will see change until a landfill closes or something.

    • @trashmaster684
      @trashmaster684  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TrashMaster684 Plus contamination throughout the city is pretty bad. No matter where you are there's always those houses that just either don't know or don't care to recycle.

    • @trashmaster684
      @trashmaster684  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TrashMaster684 My bad for the long thread but of we open mrfs I feel like they have to be city or govt. run since they will be more regulated but since we contract out we really don't know what happeneds with our recycling. In reality it's about money recycling gets expensive especially since it's so unorganized. In the end it's societys fault since this is a public service. They cater to our needs and what we want. I mean a lot of people just don't want to recycle.

    Awesome video!!! I've been so excited to see this on route! It's really interesting to see how different drivers operate the N3, like this guy just throws the arm down (which is really fun to watch) similar to the WM one in El Cajon, and there's other drivers that sort of stop the arm on the way down, like the Republic one. I sort of expected LA to operate their N3 like this haha Man there's a lot of trash out there! You think the lines out here are bigger than the ones you filmed in Chinatown [almost a decade ago lol]? Curious how long this truck has been on route, I noticed the rims are still super shiny which looks awesome. Do you know if this truck came with those mirrors? After West Valley, I realized a lot of their HX-450s have those new mirrors, so I'm curious if they were installed within the past few years since I never knew so many trucks had them. Fantastic post! Great to finally see this!

    • @trashmaster684
      @trashmaster684  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooooohhh. Thats a tough one lol. Id have to say its hard to compare. I think Chinatown might have heavier lines but in a smaller square mileage. I think its just the fact that this guy picks up a lot and I mean a lot of trash I dont think this has been out that long and yes this came with those mirrors I believe this is a 2012 or 2013 model. Im sure this truck has just broken in nicely since it is quite smooth. Thanks for dropping by!

    i dont know how long the city of los angeles plans on rebuilding these 25 year old trucks...i live in the habor area and i havent seen a new truck in all these years. years..kinda pathetic for a city like los angeles to keep recycling the same truck for all these years...

    • @trashmaster684
      @trashmaster684  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      matthew kelly I don't think the city owns any automated trucks that are 25+ years old. The oldest automated truck at your yard is probably an 00' or 01'. Not pathetic, if the city can maintain the same truck for that amount of time with the abuse of the drivers. I believe your yard has just obtained a few new trucks.

    • @soccerboy22100
      @soccerboy22100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha i doubt that..in fact once or twice the harbor area did get a new truck or 2 they were sent off to other districts and yes i know the trucks have been around that long just look at them..besides 01 02 is a long time for a truck that runs 5 days a week all year long....

    • @WasteManTony
      @WasteManTony 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      the oldest automated trucks in the city are '01s, none of which work in the Harbor area. Harbor's primary fleet is '05 and '06 trucks with 4 brand new 2017s. Nothing wrong with old trucks, often times they're more reliable than the new ones. No need to be wasting money on replacing something that's not broken.

      matthew kelly I doubt that LABOS has any more trucks that were made in the 90s. No, it's not pathetic. There is nothing wrong with them running old trucks other than the pollution they put into the air. Anyways, some of their old trucks still work good, and just like what Tony said, there is no point in wasting money to buy new trucks when the other trucks still work good. Also, LABOS hasn't only been running old trucks. They have been using shiny new 2017s.
