The danger is giving to much false negative info and than people are scared way from medications and they go on suffering for a decade or longer or they die from suicide because i saw youtube videos saying look at the dangers of antidepressants!!! No way am I taking them now..... guess I'd rather be 6 feet under than try Prozac because it's better to die of mental illness than to have erectile disfunction..... look youtube told me this so it's got to be true. If you’re going to be a psychiatrist please never use the “chemical imbalance” theory to “explain” mental illness, and PLEASE call out any of your colleagues who do. It’s extremely unethical to lie to patients like that and it’s so normalized in psychiatry. Psychiatrists will use this theory as a “metaphor” when explaining to their patients why they need to take antidepressants - this is including Dr Carlat of the Carlat Psychiatry Report, which he talks about in an interview featured in a 2015 article by Lacasse and Leo (it’s called ‘Antidepressants and the Chrmical Imbalance Theory of Depression: A Reflection and Update of the Discourse’)

@@boinkadoinkkI was sold on the chemical imbalance thing…I thought it was actual science but it isn’t so years on a feel stupid. I didn’t need them in the first place but suffered from Protracted acute after my doctor tapered me too fast. Now I’m aware doctors have never ever been taught at med school to safely taper patients off these meds. Crazy to find this out years later. If patients only knew before.❤🙏🏻🇦🇺😢

You have provided some of the most objective information I have ever received regarding psychiatric medication. The fact that you are being honest and raising awareness about the fact that medications cause a drug effect and do not simply correct a "chemical imbalance" in the brain gave me a new perspective on making informed decisions about psych meds with myself and my family. I come from a family of physicians and I can tell you that from my perspective, you are fulfilling the oath you took when you became a medical doctor. Do No Harm. Keep the information coming. You are saving lives.

the people going on and on about depression being a “chemical imbalance” DRIVE ME INSANE. I really need to just put together an info/fact sheet containing every study that debunks that stupid big pharma myth. I’ve read interviews with major psychiatrists who have literally said that when they told their patients that their depression was “caused by a chemical imbalance” that they were speaking METAPHORICALLY. This includes Dr Carlat of the Carlat Psychiatry Report!! Doctors should NEVER use metaphors without making it abundantly clear that these things are not actually true.

Finding yourself & your wife & your TH-cam videos truely saved my sanity somewhat. You were the first specialist from whom I learnt what was happening to me, 20 months after a rapid taper & the horror of living with protracted symptoms. I had found a very good Gp 4 months after my rapid taper. I was not well enough to even get to a Dr before that time. This lovely Gp had no idea of protracted withdrawal & tried to treat my long list of symptoms with many other psyc meds. None helped. I am beyond grateful to you for being attention to this very real harm that can come from Rapid tapering. For me I feel the damage is done. But at least thanks to you I know what caused it & just knowing this has given me some peace. I felt & thought before finding this acknowledgement that Benzos can & do cause the symptoms iv had & have, I thought I was going crazy. Thank you for acknowledging the FACTS🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Please keep speaking out. People needlessly suffering due to taking a prescription medication need this. No one can help me now. I'm starting month 16 off Klonopin that I took it for 20+ yrs. It ruined my life and I can never get that back. I want to be a cautionary tale to patients and doctors who are considering taking or prescribing these meds just how dangerous they can be. I still have too many days that I don't think I can hold on any longer. If anyone knew what this really felt like, they would run away screaming as fast as they could.
There are too many of us out there suffering, too many countless others who are no longer with us, and many others who will end up like me all because they took a prescription medication as prescribed. This makes me so sad and angry. The people who complain about hearing the truth obviously haven't had a problem with them, they need to shut up and count their blessings. The least we can do is warn others. If this had been done years ago, I might not be in this hellish situation.
I also don't recommend taking people off their meds until they are prepared to do so. This should be patient led to minimize the suffering. I had no choice, I was forced off. People do need this valuable information.
Maybe future generations can avoid this. It has gone on far too long and getting the word out has to start somewhere. Thank you for using your platform to do this. 🩵

I’ve taken various benzos (Xanax, Ativan, klonopin) daily for periods of a year or more and was able to taper off without any issue. 4 times over the last 20 years. I have family members who also tapered off without issue.
You read horror stories online, and for sure SOME people have a very hard time coming off of them, but if a large portion of patients got “benzo damage”, these drugs wouldn’t be on the market anymore.
Benzos help me when I need them and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

If you are stuck on a benzo, there really isn’t a safer doctor out there. If you are harmed by medications and need it explained to family, there isn’t a better team out there. Remember: Even Dr. Josef will retire someday. One of the biggest dangers of being on a benzo is being force cut by some doctor that only hears “benzos are bad” and wants to drop your dose in half or even make you come off. I hope the law will protect patients someday. For now, Dr. Marissa and Dr.Josef are probably your best chance at a having a normal life. Their value is explaining this to your support system as much as it is getting you off. I recommend Nicole Lamberson PA if she has openings.

NO check ins during the year, then when told it's not working or counteracting, I was told it would be 8 MONTHS before a first visit for any potential (re)diagnosis. Thank you Dr. Josef. I don't recall seeing any videos on optogenetics in your series. This appears to be the next phase of controlling other people's lives. There isn't a computer that can't be hacked, so how do you prevent hackers and just plain jerks from tampering with a most vulnerable brain when using optogenetics. Optogenetics appears to be even more dangerous for the ability of people to control their own mind. Thank you for helping those with power understand that helping people deal with stressors is far more beneficial than numbing emotions and sedation.

My ex went to a psych unit recent in NY and she was getting 1mg clonazepam every 6 hours and never has been on it, insane. Im 28 and have been on benzos for 13 years. Multiple kinds and now klonopin 1mg 3X daily I wish I was strong enough to deal with these protracted injury symptoms without turning to other substances but when I’m clean and just taking my prescribed meds I’m miserable and I’m so much pain with a numb leg and can’t poop but feel like I need to so bad and never able to sleep decent it affects about every part of my life and I would have ended it but I stay here and suffer so I can be here for my 9 year old daughter, I can’t get out of pure hell and aggravated with everything around me without using drugs or alcohol. I don’t know what to do and am spiraling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to anyone else dealing with addictions or any hard times.

Thank you Doc. I think one of the biggest risks not explained is the process of going off these drugs or switching drugs. I felt great on SSRIs but it was my therapists plan to always get me off it eventually. The process of getting off it gave me PSSD and has led me down a spiral.
The dangers of going off these meds and switching meds which some doctors switch you from med to med with complete guesswork is absurd.
In my opinion if the SSRis works don’t touch it and let your body be. With that said I’ve heard of some cases people are fine for decades and then awful sides creep up while on the drug.
In the end, these drugs are marketed as if doctors and the pharma industry truly understand exactly what they do. We aren’t there with the technology yet and real humans have become the trial.

    • @caitlinhs9670

I'm 70 and am aware of the risk vs benefits of my medications for Bipolar type 2. The roller coaster ride and
depression are hard to stabilize. I've tried different drugs and they all have side affects that might shorten my life. But, life is not worth living without my meds. They take the highs and lows out and stabilize my moods. I choose quality of life for my happiness and my husband who goes through life with me. Every time I have slowly cut down my dose over many weeks, all ends badly. Now I stay on them even when I think I'm doing well. When I'm doing well I always think I don't need them. Then find out, yes I have a disease, and these meds allow me to be able to cope.

You need to run a safer comment section, where people can't put people down who have simply followed medical advice and taken something that actually helped them. Don't let people get insulting or ask rudely, why a patient ever started the medications! That's your job run a safe channel. I don't know what I would have done without the medications I don't know if I would be here. So that's why I unsubscribed to you. You let haters in who want to hate on people who simply tried to make a decision for their well-being. Chiding and trying to humiliate patients needs to be an automatic comment deletion. I had to make a comment against somebody like that because you failed to remove it in the first place! And you dinged me and I'm unsubscribed and I don't trust you.

But, these Truth Tellers are constantly under attack. Often, groups will gang up and try to take down their channels. Be glad for people resilient enough to speak up.
