Woodturning pens !

Merry Christmas to everyone ! I wish you Good health , happiness and love !!! In this video i make some wooden pens ! i don't give a lot of focus on the way i work on the lathe i give more info for how prepare the wood and how we can put all the parts together !! In a future video we will speak about the creativity on the wood !!! i hope you like it we will speak again next Sunday ! until then take care !!!

hey Bob ! i make a lot of pens and i really bored to make all of the just ordinary pens so i start to put some details and have a bit of fun with them !!! we have plenty of olive wood but the rest woods are very rare here and of cause i cants find big logs of trees so make big bowls !!!

good tip with the potatoe and using ur drill press to press the pens. I'll have to try that next time I use my lathe to press the pens but i will try mt drill next time i make a pen and a potato. merry Christmas to you and your family

This is brilliant Kostas! I've watched a lot of videos on how to turn but it's difficult to find things about preparing the wood that is simple to understand for the novice.
Do you have similar videos about preparation for other projects?

Leigh Stevens hey man ! I work with olive and olive need near to six years to dry out but I have to videos for how you can turn wet wood !
what I do with my wood
1) I cut wood only in January without moon ( is the best period in my island )
2) the same day mast go in a closed place that Sun can't see the wood
3) I let them as big I can 1 metre or longer
4) the first year I put the wood straight not horizontal
5) the next year I cut them smaller and I let the horizontally
6) when the moisture on the wood are less than 15% is ready to cut them in smaller pieces
7) I cut once per month bowl blanks at the bandsaw and the leftover in smaller parts for other project ! I
ps when I cut the blanks if is more than 15% moistures at the middle I put it on dry savings for one more month !

Kostas Thank you. Very imformative. I have ruined some green (cherry) wood 😞 by not understanding how to store it but I'm learning! I am impatient so knowledge about turning green wood properly is good too. My pieces anre not so big but i think will still need a long time to dry.
How do tell what % if moisture is left?
The pens are beautiful gifts; handmade gifts are always the best because made with love!

Leigh Stevens is a litle gudget they you can see the moistures of the wood about 10€ not expensive ! normally the wood for dry out well needs one year per inch ! they say all the woods are ready of you put on water for one year ! only the walnut are perfect dry at one year !
