- I am now past the 500 mile mark of the Appalachian Trail (2,190 miles) and currently walking through Virginia. It was a challenging past few days and in this video I talk about why I have found it difficult to keep morale up…
Also, if you’d like to support my videos, I have a support page on which viewers can “buy me a coffee” as encouragement for the time and effort I put into making these videos 🙏 ko-fi.com/derekcullen - บันเทิง

I did!😉
Next week my friend
Happiness is so fleeting… I choose contentment and joy. I can always share my life with my Lord. Godspeed.
I dont understand how you don't have millions of subscribers or your own show! Seriously, brilliant! I'm completely immersed! Thank you so much. My heart is so rooting for Pringles. ❤️❤️
Thank you for reminding us! Your vlogs get me every time, they're so extraordinarily beautiful.
Beautiful episode. Don’t forget we out here are sharing your happiness and cheering you on!
Thank you
Thanks for sharing with such honesty and frank ness, Derek! Those were really good tips on releasing negative intrusive thoughts to maintain your equilibrium on the trail. I'll be doing my own 1st hike in June and will keep that in mind. Remember when you feel your morale flagging we are all rooting you along in the sidelines! :)
Derek, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and values. I really enjoy your videos. Hugs and prayers coming your way.
Derek
Stay strong
May God continue protecting you
That's the first I've ever seen of you twanging a guitar. I hope we get to hear it too one day.
❤ Thank u, Derek! Ur doing gr8. Just love ur commentary! Once again, many thanks for sharing ur journey with us.
My pleasure 🙏
That's down around where I grew up. Love your videos. Keep them coming and good luck on your journey
Deep Derek, deep 😎 Not sure where that leaves us people living on our own 🤔 Keep living your best life 👍
I really enjoyed your short video. Thank you. I felt the emotion of your hike through your words. I'll be following you.
I really missed Birdie singing along with you. If it weren't for the weight (+/- a pound), a tarp would quickly give you guys a gathering spot in rainy weather. Poor Chris M. must have also realized, too late, that survival alone in the bush isn't like in books. Unlike when you are with people, second chances are few. On a positive note, that burger looked delicious! Thanks for the video.
Yes, I miss seeing Birdy's smile and hope she's good and has someone looking out for her.
Your noting the light breaking through reminded me of Chapter 1 Verse 5 of John's Gospel. "And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend/overcome it." Glad to have seen light through your eyes today!
Love this. Thank you!
Enjoying watching your journey! Your accent is going to fit right in the further you get into those hills.
Hello you! 😉 I really enjoyed that Derek. Your singing, your reasoning. It seems such a lush area your walking through and I am glad you have good company with you. I am so surprised by the lack of wildlife through. I thought you would have at least had an encounter with a bear by now or a cougar (4 legged one) 😊. So your quarter of your way on the trail, amazing. It will be over before you know and I bet you don't want it to end. ❤
Healthy head, Healthy body, healthy feet, healthy heart ❤️...i missed that in this video. ..you must have ups and downs during a 2,190 mile walk. It all evens out. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊
Of course, ups and downs are part and parcel with a trip like this. Thank you!
Good for you you look for the simple things along the way to find your Peace and joys ❤❤❤like that fleeting rays of sun through the trees when is the girl rejoining you all i miss her
Loved your video. Beautiful views. It is nice to share time with friends. Safe travels.
most beautiful scenery yet
Thank you for sharing your happiness.
Keep enjoying!
Hello Derek I’m really enjoying your videos very much. Great eye with that camera and loving your stories. My friends and I do a lot of trail magic starting in southern Vermont and up through Maine. I’ll be watching for you as you get up this way and hopefully share some happiness with you and your fellow hikers. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your hike with us all 👍👊
Thanks so much for the kind words Steve and for the work you do with the trail magic 🙏

Can't wait for you to reach my home state of New Hampshire.
Love ❤️ videos godspeed my friend...
Thanks so much 🙏
A lovely vlog Derek, I just adore your passion for life and the great outdoors. The Chris Mcandless story is so true and poignent, and also very sad. Keep on keeping on amigo, sent you a few quid to hopefully enable your journey keep going. All the best x
Paul, thank you so much for all your support these past years and your coffee donation is hugely appreciated ❤️🙏
I'm enjoying your hike so much, Derek - I'd love to be on the trail likewise. It's also heartening to see your tribute to Chris McCandless (I enjoyed your video a couple of years back) and his realisation that we intrinsically need human companionship to feel happy.
Just found your channel a couple of days ago keep on rocking and rolling really enjoying your videos. Thank you.!
Lovely to have you here and thank you!
Stand By Me was one of my favorites also! 😊
Thank you for the beauty and the meaning. Your storytelling ability and words bring me a deep sense of way finding. I follow a few folks each year hiking the AT. I am so glad I found your journey. Travel Well.
Lovely to hear this feedback. My pleasure 🙏
That piece about not listening to anything when walking resondated. I used to listed to podcasts and audiobooks - but realized it was diluting my ability to be in the moment so, so much. Dory sends her best!
Cheers Loman !
I'm so glad to meet you at Burningtown Gap and share that happy time. Heart good! Happy trails, Blue Bear
Hello blue bear. I remember you well. Thanks so much for your hospitality that day and say hello to your gang ❤️🙏
I love your accent. Your videos are really good, thanks
Thanks so much!
I love Virginia too. What a great state.
Amen brother ❤
Beautiful ❤🙏🏻
yet another 10/10 video
Such a sad story. Poor guy didn't know what he was getting himself into. I'm glad you are still with some of your crew. Hopefully you'll see the others again soon.
hey Christina. I recommend reading the book (not the movie) “into the wild”. It’s about Chris mccandless and the second half of the book talks about his vast knowledge and experience with outdoors/adventures 🙏
That’s great ❤️
I presume that's phlox at 4:11. When you see it flowering you can think of the Christmas hymn: "While shepherds watched their phlox by night." I don't recall ever seeing it when visiting Ireland.
Joy to you my friend as you trudge the road to happy destiny . These vids are so inspiring 👏
Could you sing us a song sometime?
Haha maybe. I like to sing in videos when nobody is expecting it 😜
True saying indeed
Nice job on the video. Get read to enjoy your first Moxie and Whoopie Pie when you get to Maine. 😊
Sharing truth💞
Always following the truth. Thanks Bruce 🙏
A great watch Derek. One small observation, you wont be needing a haircut unlike the other two haha. Keep going x
Haha believe it or not, I shaved my head the night before this video…but yes not much grows on the very top nowadays. That’s why I say “love is bald” 🙏
Good insightful video, Derek. Thank you. By any chance would you have gotten yourself a book on birds? I recommend Roger Tory Peterson. 🐥🐥
hey Alicia. I don’t have enough interest in terms of wanting to know the species etc. just being honest ;)
❤
I’m enjoying your videos. Any chance you will change your pronunciation of “Appalachian” when you get to the North? You’re not wrong- but up north we use a hard A for the middle A.
Haha nope. I’ve done my research on the pronunciation and will continue to use this one ;)
Spent the night in the school house back in 2016
Yip thats it. With a view to christopher. This looks like a Netflix series. Looking at thru hiking. The mindset. Why how who . Whats required. Whats the daily weekly monthly plan outlook. Is it a good idea. Whats bad. Is it for me. Will i continue. What is after. Does it matter. How important is it. Philosophy of this. Philosophy of life. Do they join. How can i block these comments. Xo
Thank you Haha theres lots of videos on TH-cam that talks about these things…it’s not my style at all ;)
Rest In Peace "Alexander Supertramp"
Indeed !
@@DerekCullenOutdoorsAre you familiar with Dick Proenneke, Alone in the Wilderness?

Lyve 4Ever Compadrez. Wha Hoo Wha
One day read Peter E Conti’s ONLY WHEN I STEP ON IT, an account of doing the AT to try to rid/treat/adjust to excruciating leg pain he’d endured continuously for three years!
I truly admire anyone who attempts this challenge! Were I not 86 I’d try it myself!
You are inspiring! Blessings, safety & success to you!
