A few days ago I went thru a binder of Magic Cards I collected as a kid from the years 94-99ish. I had no clue how much the cards I have are worth now I’m honestly blown away. I never played any of the cards I just collected them so they are near mint kept in a binder for 25+ years. I have Gaea’s Cradle, Yawgmoth’s Will, Time Spiral, 2 Lake of the Dead’s, are some of the most valuable I have found so far. I have probably 5000 cards from those years. I talked to some local shops and I believe I’m going to hold them long term because I don’t need the money right now. I don’t know what my point is here but I’m very excited about this.
I just came across you guys randomly today. Glad I jumped on to your subscription early on. I like your content, and can't wait to see more. However, I'm in Alaska, so just call me the 'Further North MtG Man. Hah!!! ✌️😎🤙
I know I'm late on watching this but I'm curious on your opinions of mercadian masques foil basics being the first foil basics and running under 5 bucks across the board.
Great insights guys. I may not have a mind for investing in magic cards, but this really does give me an idea of what to look out for when I have the opportunity to. I am going to have to sort my collection again lol
There's normally no way to tell when a card was printed in a print run so you could have the very first card to roll off the printer. Since you cant tell they are all the first card to roll of the printer. Thats cool!
I'm a complete newbie in MTG but love Godzilla cards all of em and Ghidorah and Mothra. Aside from collecting then for appreciation of the card, would they be good value in the long run?
Hi Mr M, thanks for the good question. We believe that yes, these will be good value for the long run. Any collectible that does a good crossover like this one tends to hold more value in the long term as it appeals to multiple genres of collectors instead of just one. The quality of the cards themselves was also well executed - sometimes companies will bomb the crossover (like the MTG/Walking Dead debacle) but this one was a hit - good art, good style. For transparency, we currently have 4 of the Death Corona Godzilla foil variants in our long-term holds. The other big names like Mothra and Ghidora would be great pickups as well while they are cheap!
Yes, it's been trending downwards since it spiked just before Strixhaven released. It's pretty safe to buy in now I'd think, hold them if you have them.
Old frame foils are the best opportunity to make big money in mtg today. I think people don't realise how rare they are, urza, masques block etc foils are easily as rare as Arabian Nights cards based on how few foils you used to get back then. You got 1 foil rare per box max. Most also have art styles that will never be reprinted and with the pre-modern format gaining popularity there aren't even close to enough foils for even 5% of the current players. I'm picking up as many old frame foils as I can. I totally agree with you guys about the 93/94 era stuff too.
What blows my mind is how cheap alot of the uncommons from Legends are in NM condition. The print run was mega low, yet you can still get cards like Sea King's Blessing, Part Water, Siloutte, Sylvan Paradise etc in NM condition for around $10 a pop.
What do you think about different languages? I think about to buy a few spacegodzillas in german. I come from germany and here is the number of the corona card small but the market is of course small too. Do you think it's a good idea to hold back this card also in german. Right now it's possible to get cheap ones...or only english ones is a good investment for the future?
Hey Res, thanks for supporting the channel with the sub! Non-English cards have always had less growth than English simply due to supply and demand - English is the most played language of MTG. However, since you are actually in Germany, that will help when you decide to sell; better liquidity than trying to sell a German card over here in Canada for sure! Since you said they are cheap, and it's in your budget, I'd say get them and put them away for 5-10 years. They have the 'corona' back story, a shorter print run than English, and you live in the right market for when it comes time to sell. I personally wouldn't risk buying more than a playset of 4, but that depends on your budget.
THANK YOU for your help with this Res! We will give you a shout-out in tomorrow's vid, looks like I have it figured out now. If you can grab 7 within your budget, go for it. Personally, I'd limit lower just so I had budget leftover to diversify and grab other stuff like vintage. The difference between 4 and 7 is small. I wouldn't recommend something like 50 or 100. It could take a while to sell all those when the price does go up. And when you are buying all 7, see if you can talk the store into giving you a small bulk discount 😃 Sometimes it works!
Great video. I bought a lot of cards with my best bro who passed away and we bought most for under a buck instead of wasting it partying. I had to pinch myself when I found out what a ton of them are worth now. With the way the cost of living is skyrocketing, I've decided to top up my collection and finish some of the decks I started. Can you reccomend any sealed boxes worth buying and sitting on?
Heya Wolfflow, thanks for the sub! Sorry about your bro! As for boxes, we would go with Ikoria, Modern Horizons 2 or Double Masters. There's a few videos on channel explaining why, especially Ikoria. If you get a minute, check them out. War of the Spark and Dominaria are also solid picks if you can find a deal or two. Kaldheim seems likes it's going to age well, but it's still early. But you can grab them really cheap still!
That's a tough one. But yeah, if I were you I'd definitely hold, but we can't say for how long of course. Nothing beats the original! (Not even those fancy foils, nostalgia wins every time)
@@MTGNorth Nostalgia is also why I have a hard time selling. I got these way back during FNM drafts when Torment was new. Hard to put a price on memories. I do regret being out of the game for a bit and not knowing they were over $100 just a few months ago though. 🙃
What would you recommend for volume of each card? Just up to the investor? Because having 1 ten cent card going up to $4 only makes you $3.90, but having 100 makes you $390!
Great question. You need an outlet when something spikes. Stores that buylist have a limit to how many copies they will take in one order. I *think* facetoface has a limit of 8, but I'm not sure. Sounds like a video for the future. Anyways, long story short, diversify. 8 is my personal magic number, but if you are fine with slow dripping copies on ebay a few at a time and not needing your money immediately, 50 wouldn't be a problem. I always have enough cards on my radar to invest in that 8 copies is enough, diversify and target something else. You don't want to see your card spike, then list 100 copies on ebay. Supply and demand.
@@MTGNorth it was actually unexpected because it was a throw in for a trade. I definitely came out with 5x the trade value after I did some research on the card.
Stop tellin people the secrets boys, thats pure shenanigans. There aint no money in vintage foils. Damn mongers driven up the price of my precious vintage foils that i definitely haven't been buying up like a madman
Appreciate the level headedness here. I'm tired of getting yelled at by magic investors on TH-cam with clickbait titles.

This really is the middle-aged MTG dream! Nice job not tossing them over the years. Your investment will continue to grow, enjoy!
I'm glad you guys are doing a little something else than just opening packs. Pulls are fun, but good advice is great too.
Thanks for the positive feedback David, and being a long time sub!
Always good info from my favorite people from the north thanks an keep posting. 👍

I remember the first time I cast Syphon Soul in a big group game turn 1 with a Dark Ritual.... thaaat was a mistake apparently.

Collection sorting is so fun... for the first hour or two! Unless you have a really great collection ha
@@MTGNorth It’s mostly bulk lol. But I do remember seeing some stuff that I may want to hold on to!

So you're telling me that could be the first ever Headless Horseman?! Amazing.
I got me a playset of the full art 'rona Godzilla's, but only 3 are foil... I gave my buddy one for his birthday when they came out
What is your opinion on Alpha and Beta commons in the $10-$15 range in near mint condition?
Honestly, buy as many as you can. Near mint is getting very hard to find on the open market and will only become more desirable
