When I was a little kid in the 80s, I remembered the Donny and Marie show was in syndication on Nick at Nite. I don't remembered what year it was shown on Nick at Nite, but this was the first time I was introduce to Donny and Marie. I only remembered that part and nothing else from their shows. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Literally did the same thing today. And in the movie he left her, goes off-stage and fights w Alan again......guess that was false? Unless they did this trick more than once?
If I remember right, Marie was excited about singing her favorite song as the final act of the evening, and planned in advance her outfit and the scenery for her act. Then Donny did his magic act and locked her in this torture chamber, and kept her locked inside and exchanged unscripted small talk for several minutes. Marie knew they were supposed to have a commercial break by now and she had to get changed for her final solo act. So she asked Donny how he is going to get her out of the chamber, and he said, "I don't know- the instructions are in Chinese." Then as soon as the laughter from the audience died down, the orchestra started playing, and Marie had to sing her final solo from inside the chamber with her body still contorted. She managed to sing it passably. But as soon as they were off the air she was very angry and said words unbecoming of her and the show had to go on hiatus for a few weeks until they made up with each other.
I don't know I looked for it wondering about it myself, but I do know that at least the part about Donny writing letters to come home is true because he talked about it in an interview and started getting very upset, though I don't know if his mother ever got the letters because he said his father found out about it before he sent it and wasn't happy.
Do you have videos where Donnie is a "superhero", that brag about his good qualities as a superhero but never rescue the victim? if you have them please post them. Thanks.
Chloe Mariah They didn't lie..he did do it but the question is where did he do it. I've read that it was done on the set in front of audience but they re-taped that segment for TV. And I've also heard that he did it somewhere else..not on the set.
Too bad the Judges at The Masked Singer didn't remember this skit from the Donny and Marie show, or they would have known since the very beginning one of the biggest clues revealed
