The problem is that people don't like change. They'll moan and grumble, but like you say, it's not their place to dictate what you do and don't allow on YOUR land. Keep doing what you're doing, they'll get used to the change when they have to. I love all the content, the ups and downs, and definitely the shenanigans.
TOM ON THE FORAGING ON YOURE OWN LAND PART .... Get lydia to start saving and drying out seeds from fruits and vegetables she uses in your dinners to be able to plant on the land somewhere in spring! ... its so easy to do and so rewarding! From strawberries tomatoes cucumber, chili's peppers, planting whole potatoes.. individual garlic cloves are ideal to plant now before winter and you'll have fresh garlic by around June.. there's actually so much you could already start doing now that takes seconds / few minutes and by spring you'd have loads of seeds to start off a small allotment.. So take seeds from all the above if you use them , dry them out for a couple months over winter and you're good to go! I did this this year/ last and had 70 + tomato's off one plant had 30+ potatoes 10+ chili's and chives / spring onions all from a few pots in my garden nothing special.. Easy cheap way to get something going 💯

Send a letter to all the neighbours next to your land and let them know about the plans to make the land something for the community and also add like a email so people can contact you if they have any question. You are one of the nicest person ive seen online, keep your head up dont let others ruin your heart.

Yes there are health and safety risk assessments to be carried out, having the right insurance for the space, number of people and so on but private land/venue owners quite often host events open to the public whether they’re free, ticketed etc

On our land, we got alpacas and got the police to do a quick walk around and provide signs for free, also made some of our own, literally every 20-50 meters at any point people get on post the signs. 100m inside post slightly more aggressive warnings, then beyond that fair game to shout as much as you want XD Most people are harmless who think its public land regardless of fences, but a few are proper holes of the A. Signs dropped trespassing by 90% easily

Hey Tom used to work in surveying for about a year and know how interactions with the public can go. Most people are alright but then there are those which just want trouble. It didnt help that those ones that were being rude I told we were measuring for the new nuclear reactor XD. I was actually walking my dog when I saw you filming your reveal vid. Obviously sad that my favourite dog walk has gone but totally understand it's now yours. There will be loads of people I reckon who just assume it's a public footpath like it has been for years, might be an idea to stick a sign or two up stating under new ownership and private no access or something like that.
it was private land to start with and too end with so it shouldn't have been a public footpath at all in the first place. you where literally tresspassing the entire time just because there is no activity doesn't mind you can just walk all over it as if you own it

I totally understand that! And there was several signs, but people have ripped them down... in what we can only guess is some form of protest that we're trying to keep the land secure. I totally get that for years it has been open but that's only because of other people ripping down the fences that were once there, we are even aware that the previous farmer would actively try to keep dog walkers off but yet they simply kept removing the fences and throwing them into the canal... Even I wouldn't have thought the area was private after seeing how worn in it was from people walking on it, but sadly for those people it is private and we need to keep it safe and secure. Luckily there are SO many areas to walk around in the area and hope people can respect I can't risk people getting hurt because at the end of the day if someone does, it'll come back at me and i'll find myself in a load of legal bother.

Tom a suggestion most villages have a local leaflet that church puts the times of services. you could put an announcement that you now own the land and that you would be grateful if people could stop using it and the reason, if people find out that farming was starting again and that dogs off lead are possibly be going to be shot if they affecting animals. They will stay off it. I would put a map in there as well.
Being from a small village myself you’re always going to get those negative people who feel entitled to slate people doing good things for their community just because it’s outside of the norm. Pay them no heed, there’ll be more people grateful for what you’ve done/ plan on doing.

Public right of way does trump private land. You cannot obstruct access to the public footpath. Can’t just be any old footpath though.

Even I wouldn't have thought the area was private after seeing how worn in it was from people walking on it, but sadly for those people it is private and we need to keep it safe and secure. Luckily there are SO many areas to walk around in the area and hope people can respect I can't risk people getting hurt because at the end of the day if someone does, it'll come back at me and i'll find myself in a load of legal bother.

Trespassing on a farmers land in America is asking for trouble. Where I grew up you wouldn’t dare trespass because if you did you will have someone pull up with a shotgun. It’s crazy to see the audacity & disrespect to someone else’s property even if it were “abandoned”

Tom a suggestion most villages have a local leaflet that church puts the times of services. you could put an announcement that you now own the land and that you would be grateful if people could stop using it and the reason, if people find out that farming was starting again and that dogs off lead are possibly be going to be shot if they affecting animals. They will stay off it. I would put a map in there as well.
