Wow, so cool you know Irish. I don't know nor understand it, but I watched Moore's Irish folklore film trilogy, and just by hearing the pronunciation, I could related it to the Irish words and phrases (and songs) spoken in the three films.
I know what they're saying too since I know Manx Gaelic ,in Manx Gaelic Faigh ar ais is Fow er ash, but fan siar in Manx is tannee er ash, i guess siar means west side or westward too right? Because in Manx Gaelic west side means sheear
is this phrasing something you'd actually use as a fluent speaker? using "get" to mean move strikes me as English grammar with Irish vocab thrown over it...but I'm not a native or fluent speaker.
I really like how the chief understood that Spear is just an injured, scared and confused man. Rather than joining the mob to hunt him down, he tries to make peace by showing Spear that he means him no harm, even giving him water and food. Due to how different Spear looks compared to them, he most likely doesn't speak their language (Irish Gaelic), so the chief uses gestures instead, such as drinking from the water to show Spear that it's okay to drink. He also gives Spear medical attention regarding his injured arm, and even after everything that happened in the climax regarding the two T-Rex's, he offers him the chance to stay there with them. Throughout the whole episode, he showcased both intelligence and empathy, and those qualities are probably the reason why he's the chief of the village.

Lot of the comments saying Spear didn’t kill them because he guessed they were human too but what I found interesting was that Spear still held back even when he can visibly see angry folk chasing him with sharp weapons quite clearly intending on killing him Yet he only knocked them out, not brutally kill even if it is in self defence
He saw families women and children. You can even see him interact with a little girl around the dinner cauldron. But yeah first guy he saw he hesitated a little. Then went outside and saw everyone else.
He was just trying to get out of there and maybe being hostile for good reasons and he might be scared to of his situation and luckily they realized he’s not threat he just woke up on a bad time and scared by a old lady that looked like one of lulas cult tribe
Headcannom: He probably saw the women and children and realized they were human like him and had families. He tried not to repeat what happened to him. Hence when he sees fang biting into a person when her and the red dino invade he's surprised and mortified. He doesn't attack since she was holding a male. Only when the red dino attacked a woman he started going into attack mode.
I also noticed that Fang also didn't kill any humans except the one who attacked Red and it was more confusion/defending him cause you could tell she had no idea what they were doing here. I'm guessing her time with Spear made her imprint on humans as "don't kill". When we see that lifted elsewhere the humans she kills are clearly the aggressors.

Can't wait to see Spear go up against more humans and trying out different weapons and combat styles. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be Samurai Jack's ancestor.

It problably egypth. That region have a bigger connection with scorpion, but, in the trailer, there was assyrians soldies. That means, the time period this show happend, even though the timeline is very weird, has to be around late Bronze Age. That is timeline bettew 1600-1200 BCE.
More likely Assyrian or maybe Sumerian they look middle eastern to me? since we do see the gates of Babylon in the trailer and Earlier Dynastic Egypt, plus considering Mira speaks arabic I think it would make sense. Plus I bet the horned king might be humwawa ( a sumerian monster/deity of sort) or maybe a representation of Gilgamesh in a way? Also we may consider the creation myth of sumerian mythology as a explanation to why dinosaurs and supernatural beings exist in primal, because the God Tiamat made them to retaliate against the gods........I think???? ( I am still new to the mythos). (Just a stupid theory of mine)
@@yasuotheunforgiven9549 The siege in the trailer happens in the Ishtar Gate. So they are probably Neo-Babylonians and the series is happening around the middle to the tail-end of the Middle Eastern Iron Age.

Everyone keeps theorizing what exact age Primal takes place in. But, I believe the world of Primal operates the same way as The Lost Lands from Turok. A world where lifeforms throughout space and time end up, via portals or tears in reality. Which explains how civilizations from different time periods and animals separated by millions of years of evolution can exist at the same time. This tribe or their forefathers might have been pulled in or wondered through a portal that lead them to this new Primal world. And the same could be said with Spear, Mira, and the other civilizations we saw in the trailer. As well as the many megafauna's co-existing despite belonging in different eras.
Or maybe whatever area were Spear and Fang lived or traveled on during the first season wasn't in the prehistoric era but a large place that didn't get affected by the mass dinosaur extinction event hence why we see Bronze Age stuff in this season.

So far, this is my favorite episode of the second season. Mainly because of the chieftain. I don't understand a word he's saying but his actions and expressions speak volumes.
Pretty cool to hear some of my language. For anyone curious what he's saying at the end - he says "Faigh ar ais" and "fan siar". They both basically mean "stay back".
Ok but can we all just appreciate how Spear knocked out of these guys despite having a broken arm and having no idea how advanced they are? Spear is a beast man.
You know the first time Spear first appeared. Think back in Dexter's Laboratory episode. When DeeDee went to prehistoric time and brung back a similar character like Spear and taught him how to jump rope.
I'm guessing Fang and Spear lived in a remote, isolated ecosystem where civilization hasn't started developing yet. Like those mysterious islands lost in time. Interesting.
His reaction was hilarious, that aside, really love the fact that they found someone who is fluent in Scottish Gaelic, that's a hard language to learn!
For anybody wondering the dude said: Faigh Ar Ais Faigh Ar Ais Fan Siar Fan Siar witch translates to Get Back Get Back Stay Back Stay Back Also: Tog Uisce leat = Take Water with you Tabhair leat bia = Bring Food (Thats all im doing if theres more translate from Irish :]
This tribe seems to be a mix of several Celtic cultures, their language is Irish Gaelic, the villagers are wearing what appears to be Scottish garbs and the warriors bear woad paint which was popular among the Picts of Scotland and the Britons. Edit: also can anyone translate what the chief is saying
Faigh ar ais = get back Fan siar = stay back But yeah, since all Gaelic languages are descendants of Old Irish, I understand why they are speaking Irish in Primal. In Scottish Gaelic it's faigh air ais and fan air ais because siar is not commonly used in Scottish Gaelic and siar mostly means westward but also means back or backward, in Manx Gaelic it's fow er ash and tannee er ash
It's kinda funny in a dark way, but I like how when Spear starts roaring and wildly swinging around the mob's just like "RAAAAAAAAR SEE WE CAN YELL TOO"
My theory is spear and fang have been living in a land that's been frozen in the primal age and when they sailed across a whole ocean to search for Mira it looks like they landed in what i assume is ancient europe?
I know what tribe the villagers are, they’re ancient celts. I can tell by their blue markings, their architecture, their body features (like their hair color), their clothing, and their language.
Ancient British villages like this would’ve had covered pathways from home to home, requiring one to bend or crouch so as to prevent intruders and remind one that they’re in what’s essentially someone’s hallway
They also remind of sun walkers form the *Far Cry Primal Game* I think the Genddy and the creators toke inspiration from that game and into this show you know genddy can make a non canon parody of Spear meets Takkar and red stripes ones like the Udams pretty much i see resemblances here
The world this series is presenting really interests me, it looks like we'll be seeing alot of cultures throughout spear and fang's adventures. I'm guessing based on the language and the outfits that this is a norse/celtic villiage, am I right about that?
I was hearing a "1 hour of silence ocasionally broken by Spongebob 'MY LEG!' " in the background, and while watching this video, at 1:16 Spear double kicking that guy timed up IMPOSSIBLY PERFECTLY WELL with one of the "MY LEG!"s. I almost thought Adult Swim actually edited in he screaming that.
I maintain the idea that the world of Spear and Fang is equivalent to the Parawaorld games where ancient civilizations live alongside prehistoric animals.
The parallels of how Spear and Fang meeting others like them. Spear meeting the villagers and connecting him to his humanity and Fang meeting another of her species.

Lot of the comments saying Spear didn’t kill them because he guessed they were human too but what I found interesting was that Spear still held back even when he can visibly see angry folk chasing him with sharp weapons quite clearly intending on killing him
Yet he only knocked them out, not brutally kill even if it is in self defence
I think he didn’t kill them because of broken arm
@@liner5588 Yeah that too tbh
He saw families women and children. You can even see him interact with a little girl around the dinner cauldron.
But yeah first guy he saw he hesitated a little. Then went outside and saw everyone else.
Attention to detail = Spear never tried to kill any of these Celts
He was just trying to get out of there and maybe being hostile for good reasons and he might be scared to of his situation and luckily they realized he’s not threat he just woke up on a bad time and scared by a old lady that looked like one of lulas cult tribe
Headcannom:
He probably saw the women and children and realized they were human like him and had families.
@@fumothfan9 Women didn't seem to bother him much when he slaughtered the village of the scorpion lol
The only thing that he was shaken by was accidentally killing that one kid
0:20 I love how after his experience with the witches he is insanely paranoid of her and just runs, he's seen this sorta thing before and he's not doing that again
The power of communication is the strongest power humans have
Primal is such an amazing show.
Not to mention it's all explained without or very few words that most people don't know unless they come from the area with the language.
But all the subtle mannerisms and scenery tell the story so well. Like the peaceful area in the final part of the first half of S1 where the fish are used to a peaceful life they just swim in spear's hands. Don't even run away.
It truly deserves whatever accolades and awards it gets. It is a very unique well made show in a sea of mediocre adult shows.
My mouth was agape this whole episode what a roller coaster
What is it about?
I actually got worried that Spear would have actually killed one of the warriors in front of the villagers. They were simply healing him with aid from their witch, his experience with a village full of witches who almost tried to kill him made Spear think she was going to do the same to him.
Well I'm sure that guy who kissed his foot isn't feeling too great but I doubt that killed him.
This cartoon is beyond just beautiful.
I am so glad this show is back, I just watched the two new episodes yesterday and I cannot wait for the next one!!
Can't wait to see Spear go up against more humans and trying out different weapons and combat styles. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be Samurai Jack's ancestor.
You mean samurai jack is the reincarnation of spear
Like Conan the Barbarian, this is a posibility.
This is one of my favorite ever adult swim cartoons. It's so amazingly made.
I have a theory that the guys that took Mira, the one that wear red and yellow armor, resemble something similar to Roman soldiers. Maybe not completely the same but similar.
More like Egyptians or Mesopotamian.
I was thinking like Sumerians
I can already tell this season is really gonna put Spear and Fang's fellowship to the test.
I love how this show is constantly showing you the characters personalities in everything they do, even though spear is scared he never even touches any of the women or children he passes because even though hes a caveman he doesnt hurt those who dont try to hurt him and I love that about spear
Spear is a different kind of man altogether, big boy love seeing him reach civilization
First 2 episodes were bloody amazing! Can't wait for the next ones and so glad this series is back.
When will the next few episodes come out?
@@EdmundiumHitting Next episode should be out on Thursday according to wiki.
The cheif was an amazing character that I hope we see more of throughout the series
When the cheif first ran out of the hut at first I didn’t realize he was the cheif and I said to myself “What’s that skinny guy gonna do?” Then I saw him calm down Spear and stop the fighting. Dude may not be physically strong, but he’s definitely the cheif because he is the wisest among them.
He's still pretty ripped, just in a lithe way.
@@maxxor-overworldhero6730 You got a point
He wasnt as strong looking but sure was fast to catch up to them.
@@fumothfan9 Speed and agility seems to be his specialty.
I was thinking this was another planet or something
My bet is spear and fang lived a place like "The Lost World" from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
It's a fantasy world, there's nothing more to it.
....so it's literally Ark
Or maybe whatever area were Spear and Fang lived or traveled on during the first season wasn't in the prehistoric era but a large place that didn't get affected by the mass dinosaur extinction event hence why we see Bronze Age stuff in this season.
I was hoping there wouldn't be any dialogues, but at least the Celtic Chief doesn't speak English.
Are they scotish Celtic
And all so what language they speaking
There speaking Scots and it seems to be that there Picts but the Roman's called them Caledoni
If I have this wrong just don't bas this
@@nicholasgates9749 ok
This show has the best story telling i've seen and heard since covid started.
This is such a great series I’m so glad it’s on Toonami! 😎
Good detail for the witch/druid figure to have one eye. Magic users in Irish myth often have one eye (the chief is speaking Gaelige/Irish)
Do you know what he said in that language
@@tonypraotdo2040 The last thing he said in the episode - "Is féidir leat fanacht linn." - means 'you can stay here." Not sure what he said here. He later says Uisce and Bia - water and food.
This makes me think that they might introduce the Old Hag, in Celtic mythology the Old Hag is this giant old lady that brings in blizzards
@@SirToaster9330 Aye! They have the massive figure of the Horned King with Celtic knotwork on his throne makes me hope that they start including mythological motifs and figures into the mix
This is all so good.
I find it funny how the tribe person calmed the others while Spear was in the background yelling and swinging a spear wildly.
It looked so hilarious
Can’t wait for episode 3
Me to it sucks fangs mate Range? Yeah I’m naming him range if he doesn’t have a official name yet he just died but fang didn’t mean to she was just trying to stop Spear her like brother partner and her husband like partner to even out Mira you know

Celts & Cavemen would be an amazing D&D supplement.
I think there was a third party supplement for 5e that is for a stone age setting.
I love the aesthetics of the clan. Celtic people are so underutilized in most fiction and illustration. They also kinda remind me of the Picts. Anyone else? Definite conan vibes here.
I only just realized as I was rewatching PRIMAL. Fang and Red got a little buzzed or drunk by eating the fruit from the ground as it had been fermenting. I missed that completely the first watch. No wonder Fang went and got knocked up. lol
What a nice group of village folk, I'm sure Spear and Fang will quickly become friends with the new people of the land :)))))
I hope he has a stern talk with the Vikings that took Mira! Hopefully, they sort it all out peacefully :)
It reminds me of that Spear woke up in the Viking Era like he's been asleep for like a long time
So far, this is my favorite episode of the second season.
Spear was channeling his father's
primal energy with that eye glow
It is so friggin cool seeing Celts represented!!
Pretty impressive just how quickly the warriors responded once Spear was up.
0:49 Will Smith slaping Chris rock be like
I like the effort they put in to make accurate Celtic warrior body paint and clothing
Interesting.
pretty sure they are actually in north america.
@@taddad2641 Neanderthals didn’t like in North America

His reaction was hilarious, that aside, really love the fact that they found someone who is fluent in Scottish Gaelic, that's a hard language to learn!

It’s Irish not Scottish, they’re irish
Still in love with this animation style.
For anybody wondering the dude said: Faigh Ar Ais Faigh Ar Ais Fan Siar Fan Siar witch translates to Get Back Get Back Stay Back Stay Back
Also: Tog Uisce leat = Take Water with you
Tabhair leat bia = Bring Food
(Thats all im doing if theres more translate from Irish :]
Ohhh ok so they are Irish not Scottish
bro spear casually just soloed the entire mob of people
This tribe seems to be a mix of several Celtic cultures, their language is Irish Gaelic, the villagers are wearing what appears to be Scottish garbs and the warriors bear woad paint which was popular among the Picts of Scotland and the Britons.
Edit: also can anyone translate what the chief is saying
The Gael Celts also had Tartan and used woad paint.
Faigh ar ais = get back
Fan siar = stay back
But yeah, since all Gaelic languages are descendants of Old Irish, I understand why they are speaking Irish in Primal. In Scottish Gaelic it's faigh air ais and fan air ais because siar is not commonly used in Scottish Gaelic and siar mostly means westward but also means back or backward, in Manx Gaelic it's fow er ash and tannee er ash
This is not a mix, these peoples are or are copies of the Picts of Scotland

1:23 Dude looks like Baulder from God of War.
My theory is spear and fang have been living in a land that's been frozen in the primal age and when they sailed across a whole ocean to search for Mira it looks like they landed in what i assume is ancient europe?

I love how the “angry screaming” is absolutely wordless, yet strongly implies a basis in language.
The world this series is presenting really interests me, it looks like we'll be seeing alot of cultures throughout spear and fang's adventures. I'm guessing based on the language and the outfits that this is a norse/celtic villiage, am I right about that?
Yeah it seems to be a celtic village, with the chief speaking Irish Gaelic/Gaeilge
