I’ve owned a Gato Dia-250S for about 2 years now and they look stunning. Even though mine is lower down the range, I still can’t believe how beautifully rich and detailed it sounds. Mine also comes with a built in DAC.
Thanks Steve, for the great review and music/artist recommendations. I've just had a fab journey with Jon Hassell...super ambient and hypnotic recording. Thanks and keep doing what your doing.
Listening to Bach trios With iPhone and headphones I found on TH-cam lol! Can’t play through my system and wake up the family. I am definitely enjoying it!
Wonderful review! Just the right balance of facts and emotional reaction. Makes me wish I had $5k to spend on a power amp. It's nice to know that so many people care about sound quality and that artful pieces of kit are being made.

Thoroughly enjoyable, informative review. You're good company, Steve, during this lockdown and have rekindled my interest in hi-fi. I purchased the Grado Hemp phones after your positive remarks and love them. Terrific set of cans.
Whoa easy on the brick and mortars 😂😂😂 we aren't greedy. We're an authorized Gato Audio dealer if youre looking to demo or buy in Florida. Love the vids!
As always, your passion as a reviewer makes the Gato AMP 150 a very, very interesting proposition for further investigation! Priced very similar to your beloved PASS and FIRST WATT amps which I suspect is within the price range of your many subscribers.
Dear Mr.Steve, Your descriptives remind me of Electrocompaniet. Nearly everything else felt like shades of harshness by comparison. Hi Steve and greetings from Romania ! 🙂 Denon makes some super integrated amps that follow the same idea as Gato’s. Most Denon integrateds are using “a single pair of Mosfets per channel”. As i understand it is not possible to fabricate two transistors of same type and expect them to perform 100% identically. What Denon does: a pair of mosfets per channel, one mosfet handles the upper waveform and the other mosfet handles lower waveform. In constrast most solid state amp manufacturers use multiple mosfets/bipolars per each half upper/lower waveform. It means that this Gato and the Denon integrateds speak with a single voice=mosfet per each half waveform. Similar with 2 tube push-pull per channel amplifiers. Moreover, the top Denon integrated amps which are sold only in Japan have an interior top notch construction which i have not seen even inside the most uber expensive monoblocks. In contrast to Gato, Denon builds these integrated with this topology since maybe more than 20 years ! It’s a matter of taste, i personally think the Denon looks even better. Here’s a review in english of Denon PMA SX-11 the second best integrated Denon makes: th-cam.com/video/G_V84eSwe0s/w-d-xo.html&feature=share The top model is PMA SX-1 Limited. Other models using this topology are PMA A-110, PMA-2500NE and of course lower range models. I have PMA-2500NE paired with JBL 4312SE. It sounds great, dynamic, pure, great musicality! For me the PMA-SX1 Limited would be the ultimate solid state amplifier! Now i need to get myself an SET amplifier to have both worlds! I hope you will try to review one of the two Denon super-integrateds in the future, i would be delighted to hear your opinion 🙂 And i hope you get to read my comment! Wish you well ! Paul,
Wow that's a lot bigger than the thumbnail would suggest I thought it was going to be like a topping-esque type amplifier that actually looks really cool
Hi Steve. I really enjoy the gear reviews but also love the passionate records reviews. Maybe you could close every review with a quick comment on two records you like. I am crazy about audio stuff but I have always in for the music first. Cheers
Those shirts somehow seem to suit Steve. Not sure that i could get away with some of them though. The Gato gear is very nice looking in the flesh in my view.Clean sounding too.
Thanks for the review. I’m amp shopping right now and was not familiar with the Gato. Speakers are Cornwall IV and had been considering McIntosh, Marantz, and Luxman. Will have to give this one a listen. Thanks as always.
It's one of those gear that it would be so hard for a reviewer to send it back, so if you are in Brooklyn area and you hear someone's crying, it's probably Steve.
When you talk about a recording like the Bach trios, what I miss about my Audible Illusions preamp that I sold in favor of purchasing a PASS unit is exactly that the AI breathes. I wish that I could combine the best characteristics of each of these preamp’s together into one. Unfortunately that won’t happen. And I do think the PASS preamp’s are stunning in what they do correctly.
Enjoy these moderately high end reviews, even though I'm not wired to pay 5 grand for an amplifier. I'm glad to see you try out amps with bitchy speakers that are hard to drive. Kinda wish you'd keep that pair of Magnepans around to test appropriate amps. Or, a pair of box speakers known to bring "8 ohm-only" rated amps to their knees (4 ohm speakers with the 2.3 ohm low spikes for example). I wish you could get an interview with someone who knows, explaining amps, volts, and watts, and what they mean to various (real) speaker impedances. Even though amp manufacturers don't provide these numbers, much can be gleaned from 8 ohm versus 4 ohm capability. Maybe a discussion by an expert as to just how horrible (or not) 1% THD can sound to an experienced listener. You are good at interviews, Steve. Find these people to tell us. There's so much new stuff coming around, speakers, amps, cheaper DACs (the 'new market skimming' on those seems to be settling down). How goes Schitt's new turntable? Could it be time to run through your repertoire of really good systems for $1K, $2.5K, and $5K about now? Or, maybe after the March march of new speaker models come out? A reviewer's work is never done.
When i bought my Aerial 5T, Mike Kelly from Aerial Acoustics said he worked with Gato as being the best pairing for his amazing speakers. High praise indeed.

Goodmorning steve happy Christmas from Amsterdam. I have a question what do you think in combination with the magnepan 1.7i? I play now the musical fidelity A5 totally recap with mundorf and more. Greeting Gerrie.
Found the Hassell recording and, yes, definitely a 'late night' play . . . I don't have Gato, but a pretty hefty amp and HD streaming . . . restored Dahlquist DQ-10's.
I would like you to talk more about the knobs and inputs on the back. Like, what is that big circle in the middle? Is that a power meter? What does it look like turned on? You that kind of stuff.
It's hard to beat a more simple audio signal circuit with less components and more of straight wire with gain so that they loose less signal information, even though it will shine more light on bad production sound, but even so a amp design like will have lower distortion and will not cause sound fatigue like lesser designs might.
Got mine few days ago. Really a brilliant amp, excellent value, fantastic sounding. Mine runs quit warm though driving Dynaudio 4 ohm speakers (much warmer than any other class A/B I’ve tried). Does anyone has the same experience? Thx
I have my Amp 150AE paired with DALI Epicon 2’s, absolutely sublime sound. It is in fact a class A-A/B amp, the first 15 watts are actually class A, this is why it runs warmer than most A/B amps.
Sounds like a real winner. The single pair of output transistors is reminiscent of early Naim designs' philosophy. Looks sharp and well built. Good value too.
Steve, you have recently made some rave reviews of the SCHIIT AEGIR MONO, GATO AMP 150 and your love affair with anything that PASSes your stereo. 1600 to 4000+ is a huge GAP, how close is the AEGIR MONO to the GATO or F8? And you looked at some of the new GAN amplifier offerings that bridge this GAP, thinking of Premium Audio Products(1600-2400) and the LSA GAN at 3000, any thoughts of best bang for buck etc would be appreciated as looking as upgrading primary amps to be more state of the art, regards
Hey, Steve, did you try Gato on the Klipsch maybe f8- Gato on Klipsch would be a more fair comparison maybe not but to me it's of interest. Thanks for the content.

So instead of paying a distributor the extra $3250, you pay import taxes if you're outside Denmark. Which might still be cheaper than 8k overall. Scansonic and the renowned Raidho speakers, are also under Dantax's administration.

@@johnsmith1474 sorry you don’t agree. Although Bang&Olufsen may not live you to your standards as audiophile equipment, it’s standards have won and are still winning awards in the design and technology world. To call it garbage is just plain arrogance. As a dealer, I sold the likes of MacIntosh, Luxman, Phase Linear and Nakamichi along with B&O. It was not “garbage”.
Never trying that combination I cannot say for sure, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't work! They are very powerful very beautiful sounding amplifiers.
Dear Steve, your enthusiastic reviews are a delight, and so are the well placed music choices. But over time the deployed choices of descriptive words appear limiting and repetitive, an enlarged selective vocabulary, not necessarily as flowery as a cigar or wine tasting review vocabulary, but an expanded sounds vocabulary, some branching into emotions, other into tonal and acoustic but also perceptive specificities, properties and projections.
Which amp do you enjoy with the Dynaudio Heritage the most, Pass Labs XA25 or Grato AMP150? and why? I'm trying to find that perfect amp for the Dynaudio Heritage.
Steve you again are cutting areas other publications and reviewers are missing. The new possibilities from the GAN transistor and some new american designed products would be of great listening and/reviewing. You or Herb should review the new GAN amps from say LSA voyager or the Premium Audio Products Mini GaN 5 Balanced Power Amplifier, as these show great steps forward in transistor use and design, i am sure such reviews will help your client base in these new technologies, i am certainly awaiting serious products without a silly price
Listened to 17 mins. of nothing more than this man talking about the amp that blows his mind. I own a "Technics" power amp, with 4, 110 watts of output. It does quite well with me with each of the attachments that hook up to that amp (Radio, CD, Cassette, Computer). I even have an adaptor that also connects both electric guitar, and Karaoke machine, or straight mike to it. It does a great job for me, so would I purchase this amp? Sadly NO. I'll stick with what I now have. It can rattle the windows just fine, if turned up half way, and is clear as a bel, with excellent audio.

Hello ! Can it drive the Dynaudio Contour 60i speakers, is it a good match? Help, please. Thank you in advance!
Never trying that combination I cannot say for sure, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't work! They are very powerful very beautiful sounding amplifiers.
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Thanks for the reply! I appreciate. Good luck
I see Bob Dylan 1970 listed in the description but can’t remember Steve talking about it.. did I miss something ??
Looks like the old Musical Fidelity X series gear. It's a nice look.
Wish I still had my xa 200 monoblocks
How different is the sound signature to something from Hegel? I love the look more than Hegel.
Take a look at Darko’s review: he is comparing the Gato to the Hegel. th-cam.com/video/eZ4a0pNtEb8/w-d-xo.html
Next on the menu, a pair of gato PWR - 222 monoblocks x2 for bi or tri amplifier some floor standers.
Hi Steve which amp would you recommend to run the Klipsch RF 7’s series 2 either the Abcom GFA555 or the Acurus a 200×3 channel amp, thank you!
Steve, you've never reviewed or mentioned the Jay's Audio CD Player. Is it interesting?
Good morning! 4:09 am
Which amp do you enjoy with the Dynaudio Heritage the most, Pass Labs XA25 or Grato AMP150? and why? I'm trying to find that perfect amp for the Dynaudio Heritage.
Hey, did you test dynaudio on gato ? What do you think? How is the bass sounding?
Surprised you didnt try it with ths magnapans...any reason why? I would have thought it would have been an excellent match at 250 into 4?
I may be wrong, but I don't think Steve has any Magnepans right now.
@@Hare_deLune that's a shame...I thought he really loved them? Sad...
@@stephenstevens6573
He does love them.
However, he also loves his Klipsch speakers.
Too many choices, perhaps.
@@stephenstevens6573
Btw, I saw him comment below to another person that he does not have the Magnepans any more, but that he thinks this amp would pair well with them. : )
@@Hare_deLune thank you
Browsing the website... seems like a great value in amplifiers.. even.
