You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.
Great review, but my heart skips a few beats, when you grab for you cutoffs with the saw still running :-o
I was the same. The saw could drag his hand toward the blade if he got a kickback. Totally crazy and shouldn't show this type of dangerous practice in a video.

Well... Amazon delivered my new saw & Diablo blade today! I'd like to brag that the saw was perfectly aligned right out of box, but no such luck!
1) Saw blade found to be parallel to miter slots and perpendicular to front and back table edges (thankfully)
2) Removal and replacement of riving blade found to be easy / straightforward (Thanks DeWalt). Removed it while making alignment tweaks
3) Table insert NOT level with table top... all four screws had to be adjusted to achieve planarity
4) Saw blade NOT 90 deg to table top, and found that adjustment of stop to be a bit tricky... but finally tweaked it in OK
5) Fence in both position 1 and 2 was NOT parallel with saw blade (nor perpendicular to table edges). Was able to tweak alignment per manual directions
6) Removal / replacement of saw blade using supplied wrenches proved easy / straightforward
7) Sample cut of short 1x6 board showed cut to be square in both directions... Viola!
Think I'm really going to enjoy using this saw. Your review helped me gain confidence in the purchase, so thanks again!

Just bought it online from Home Depot when they had a special buy on it for 329$ with the stand or without the stand for the same price. Obviously got the one with the stand, and next day delivery for free. The special buys online at Home Depot go on a rotating cycle, just be patient and get a great deal.
Just picked one of at my local Rona store. Love it. The cut is very clean even with the come with 24T blade, and plenty of power.

Just bought mine today, 11 September 2020.. Set it up on sturdy saw horses and 1/2 sheet of 3/4” ply. Table height = 37” and could easily be raised. Semper Fi ~ excellent vid! Subscribing.

That's a pretty sweet saw. When I was 17, I was totally down to do lots of stuff with a table saw. Now that I'm in my 30's, I'm doing a lot of "waste processes". Rip a 4x8 with a circular saw. Then, true it up on a table saw with some help. Section everything down in the table saw with some help. Shaker cabinets. All dado. Take your time. Simplify life, stay safe, worry less.
-- The Kreg ACS is the way to go if you're into lots of 4x8 stuff.
Got mine last week at HD, was surprised to find out its regular price here in PR is $329 (everything in local Home Depots is way more expensive than in the ones in continental US). I probably watched about 20 videos, including this one, about reviews and unboxing of this table and got convinced over the similar priced Ridgid and the less expensive but less robust Ryobi. I'm a novice woodworker but I wanted a saw that will last long, a lot of woodworkers here on TH-cam use this saw daily for making all kind of stuff so it's safe to say it will serve me well for the future. Already I'm planning on building a temporary small rolling cart for it and then start planning on a full rolling workbench for it. Thanks a lot for the video!
PS question: does the dust exhaust port can be connected to a hose and that hose be put in a 5-gallon bucket to collect dust? Or it doesn't have enough pressure to blow the dust into that bucket?
I have a small job now that requires a table saw. Just discovered that this saw is on sale at HD for $300. I'm sold on Diablo blades...they last me years. Nice review.
A pretty good rundown on the saw. As mentioned below, using the fence AND the miter gauge together is a major no-no. Some other things, I believe the miter gauge slot on the table is the standard width and depth. While the miter gauge seems like an after thought, replacing it would be easy enough. I also believe this saw uses the same 15 amp motor as the 10" saw, which is a very good thing since the DeWalt motor has been one of it's strong suits. Makita is oddly way behind DeWalt in the jobsite table-saw category. After all these years, that one is a real head-scratcher. There isn't a great selection out there for 8 1/4" thin kerf ATB blades, but there are some. In short, this is an even more affordable and compact version of DeWalt's excellent jobsite table saws, that can still do a sheet of plywood in a pinch with it's 24.5 inch capacity. personally speaking, I use a track saw for sheet goods, rather than a small table saw...easier, safer and more accurate.
Yep I was surprised to him do that. I have worked on saws for many many years and if your fence is not very true to the blade that piece would have kicked back causing trouble for you and the saw.
Yeah I have enough experience on a table saw to know the same, would not have done it with a clamped down fence. The cut was meant to show another aspect of the saw, but everyone loves to nit pick like it was a dangerous move when it really wasn’t even close.

I just bought one of these saws. The manufacturer's directions explicitly says NOT to use the miter gauge with the fence. Use either the miter gauge or the fence alone. It says there could be kickback with using the fence and miter gauge together.

Flimsy stand. Can see it move as you adjust the angle of the blade. Would not want to trust that stand at all but the saw seems pretty good with limitations.

About using the wrong guide marking, your said you really only use the narrower setting, so the yellow markings. Should try sticking a piece of decorators tape to the lower part of the clear marking gauge, that way you only see the relevant measurement size.
Your hands were too close to the blade. It's dangerous to work that way.

The blade guard can be stored under the saw. It has a stud where a wing nut allows you to tighten it down.

My wife recently got me this saw but it was slightly used and the fence adjustment knob is extremely hard to turn. I've hit it with PB Blaster but it didn't help much. Anyone else experienced this?

What is the model number of the saw stand that you are using with the Dewalt 8 1/4" table saw? I am unable to locate one on Amazon or at Homedepot.
Have you found a good local source for the blades? Lowes, HD, or Menards, do not carry them around us. The only place was specialty tool places on the web, and they were over $135.00, each.
Where is the motor overload reset switch located? It is mentioned in the manual but the location is not shown.
I have a brand new saw that won't start.
The 2023 Father's Day Home Depot price is $348 with a stand. Part number is DWE4875WS. I'm putting the stand in storage, and replacing it with the $158 Dewalt stand with wheels.

I would say yes! It is certainly cheaper and I think that the Milwaukee is just slightly different. You know I’m a die hard Milwaukee guy but when it comes to table saws / wet saws, DeWalt carries the category.

Lovely little table saw.
The throat fence isn't as stable as I'd liked and there's no lock on the rise and fall but the guide fence parallel adjustment and locking system is excellent.
So overall a well thought out
Versatile saw.

I bought mine about 8 months ago here is Australia. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Fantastic saw.
Your prices are laughable in America. Here in Australia the saw was $1,200 on special and $400 for the Dewalt trolley. I bought the stand initially for $200 but ditched that in a fortnight as I’m disabled and cannot move the saw around without a trolley. I only have a small shop so storage is better for me as the footprint is smaller and I can move it outside to cut and keep the shop dust free. The rack and pinion fence is as good as he says.
If you are thinking of a saw, buy it. I wish I had the money to buy it earlier.
I also purchased a Diablo blade at $160 when I bought the saw and have never taken it out of the packet. I find the Dewalt blade does everything I want and never even chips Melamine. 👍🇦🇺
It’s crazy the price difference! I’m glad you like the saw too. It definitely is worth the money and is super portable. I had a cabinet saw for a long time and it was so inconvenient
@shedmanx3640 Same country but bought used. Lovely saw and I built a trolley to wheel it outside so no exy exhaust system to worry about. As it had an old blade when I bought it I replaced that with a Diablo blade and the cut face is so purrrfect.
Oh, and why I commented . . . DeWalt have to match Australian standards and change the motor to a 240v job. That costs extra money. So US$400 = $623 + motor swap = $300 (if not more) so add that up and you get AU$923. Right now for AU$1270 you get the saw, and via redemption: the DeWalt saw stand, 4 DeWalt chisels and a DeWalt corded orbital sander. So, not too bad after all.

At $800 Australian ($1AU=$.7US) we are paying +$500US for this unit while you are paying $300-$399 (going by comments). As a result it is considered to be (here) at the top end of the DIY or job site line up over here with models such as Makita priced well below it. Regardless this is the one I purchased after watching many reviews like this. It did not disappoint. Mine came with a stand free but that stand lasted a week before I built a flip top bench and chucked it away. Low and unsteady it was dangerous. I’m very happy with this saw, it is accurate and a joy to use. Coupled with the Dewalt Airlock Y splitter hoses (another $149 spent) it barely leaves any mess after use.

The riving knife is the piece of steel that sticks up just behind the blade. It’s purpose it to make sure that the wood you are cutting does not come closed after going through the blade and pinch the blade. If you ever cut without one, you can watch the wood come back together after you cut it. It can bind badly and sometimes even kickback if it binds bad enough.

Appreciate the quick runthrough; just picked the 7480 and everything is pretty much the same One weird thing I encountered w it - and maybe I'm just a moron that doesn't know how to seat the saw on the stand, but I ordered separately the Dewalt rolling stand and the mounting holes to the rails aren't far enough apart to catch the front and rear slots! wth? It's a dewalt stand for a dewalt saw??? So before I even used it, I had to fashion some sort of base that etended the reach to the slots. I settled on a tx4 of some hardwood - walnut? - made the hole measurements, then bolted the saw to the wood strips. Once the strips were in place, I bolted the saw to the metal arms and it's as sturdy as a brick outhouse. One final thing about that rolling stand - and I apologize for focusing more on the stand than the saw, but although the stand is a great height for me, tilting the stand to vertical to roll and store w the saw attached feels sketchy as heck w those the aluminum legs and the snap lock system they use because you have to tilt it back on two legs as basically a fulcrum. it's doable, but I think over time this is going to start some slop in the legs, which will be serious a problem. Not sure Dewalt thought this through very well, but overall, for my use it's the most important tool in the shop...well, maybe tied w the router! I encountered the exact same problem. My saw would not properly bolt to the stand. The holes didn’t line up at all. I ended up drilling different holes

Hi, I have a few questions. I need advice. I am considering the purchase of Dewalt DW733 (power 1800W) and DWE7485 (power 1850W). I have a Fieldmann 4020Bi generator available (max power 2000W, constant power 1600W). Will it be up and running and work with that generator? Nothing from Dewalt has a softstart. Thank you very much
Don’t take my word for gospel but you should be good. 1800W is at the full 15A under full load. I don’t think you’ll see that full load while cutting. So the generator should run it just fine.
Would you say this is as good as the Dewalt 10" model? I am considering this smaller model due to the smaller blade, smaller footprint, and lighter weight---after more usage would you still recommend it? Thanks for the review.
Yes absolutely. I have used both. Considered the 10” but honestly didn’t see the point. There are only a few things that the 8.5” won’t cut, depth wise. It’s like comparing a sliding miter versus a standard miter. Unless you’re cutting 2x12” you don’t need the slider. Same with the 8.5”. If you’re not cutting 4x4’s. Why get the 10” table saw

I just bought this table saw. I was lucky the stand was free with purchase. Im new to Woodworking and just a DIYer. I watch this video to learn some tips and tricks and to make sure I understand all the features of the saw. Reading the manual is boring. Lol 😂 I would like to build a cart with sides and out feed table. So then the free stand is useless. I’ll have to figure out another use for it.
Yes I don’t like this stand. I’d really like it to be taller. By at least 3 or 4”. It is stable but just too low.

Did you encouter any issue with that Diablo blade on this saw? If the specs on Diablo's website is correct, the blade is a little too wide for the riving knife that came with the saw.
I have had no issue with the Diablo blade
I'm learning about riving knife safety, and there's a coupleways to look at it.
1: Riving knife is flush with the face of the motor. Thicker kerf=loose on the fence side=passive. Thinner kerf =tight on the fence side.
2: Riving knife is installed on the centerline of a particular kerf. Wider kerf=less drag. Smaller =tight on the fence side. If the blade has carbides that are substantially wider than the disc, then it binds an twists the part. Be safe!

With experience it can be done but the table area of this saw doesn’t provide much support. My go to is a track saw or a sheet clamp used as a fence for a standard circular saw
It's literally made to be able to rip 4x8 sheets.

Hey Cory, the riving knife is not a wear item. It is not sharp. It’s only purpose it to provide a “shim” behind the blade so cut wood does not squeeze back onto the blade.
lot about a job site table saw and jigs I have debunked as a beginner using 1. I'm tracking almost now. TY for taking your time to reply. Now I just need to get familiar with my 540 kreg for making pocket hols, any advice would be great. 2x4. Thanks to GOD I got squaring them done, now just sanding and assembly. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Just got one home. No dust comes out of either port, instead the saw top, and the area in front of the saw get covered in dust. Is this thing assembled incorrectly or something?
Dewalt is the worst for dust collection on most their tools which is a shame since they have great vacuums.
I believe it has a cast alum table, I thought that was bad, you want a cast iron table top, am I correct
For fine woodworking in a shop environment, yes I’d go with a nice cabinet saw with a cast iron table. This, however, is a job site saw and serves nicely for that purpose

this saw is actually great for ripping sheet goods (4x8) since it’s rip capacity is 24.5 on the right and has a 5,800 rpm motor. Not sure why you say it’s not good for this use.

in regards to the measuring color codes, hate to even put it this way, you could use a rhyme white is right BY NO MEANS is this meant to be taken the wrong way, hopefully. maybe blame Dewalt right could of had a red background so right= red.

@@OrbitalRoc There's a single review on the Bunnings site by a fellow named "Chris" who says all the Australian 7491's have a 16mm arbour instead of 30mm. Can you confirm what yours is please? It seems nonsensical to have a smaller bore on a higher powered motor and bigger table than this 7485 model.
@@TechNed it's a 16mm arbour for the 7491-xe which is long enough for a dado stack but all the blades have to be bought from the US. If you ever want to use a dado stack the 7485-xe doesn't have a long enough arbour. Also if you want to run a dado stack you will need to also buy a new throat plate or run with none. I also thought why did they go with the smaller arbour I think it's just to be able to use dado's. I went with the 7491-xe as i have room to expand. Side note the aus dewalt webpage is very out of date so it's a good idea to check out the tool in person.
