    Getting ReShade working with dgVodoo2 isn't hard but it requires you to do things outside of this video's ReShade process. If you already have dgVodoo2 working, then when you install ReShade3 you point to the pol.exe that resides in the same folder dgVoodoo2 is installed in. You choose the DX10+ interface and let it install all the shaders. The last step is you need to rename the newly created dgxi.dll to d3d11.dll so that dgvoodoo2 will chain to it properly. Once done FFXI will be running with dgVodoo2 and ReShade at DX11 level effects.

    I can't see to get my lighting to work out so it looks like yours, either it's to dark, to light, to blurry or to fuzzy. I'm playing at 1920 x 1080 resolution, on 24inch screen. Gtx 1080ti gfx card. Messed around with setting but cand find the right balance. :(

    Unfortunately I'm coming a cross an error. Everytime I move the d3d8.dll into the POL directory, I'm unable to get Windower to load POL anymore. When I remove, I suddenly am but obviously reshade isn't working that way, I'm at a loss.

      You need to install dgvoodoo. After hours of googling and setting it up properly it allowed me to use reshade

    I run retail through Windower4 (Win7 x64). I'd previously set up ReShade pointed at the Windower4 executable, but I'd never seen the ReShade overlay on the License accept screen, so I figured after watching this that I'd attached ReShade to the wrong thing (ie it needed to be a proper launcher). I went ahead and attached ReShade (from the Zi'Tah pack) to my retail client and copied the files as before, this time to the POL directory.
    After that, launching via Windower4 results in a System Error break before the POL Launcher loads (MSVCP140.dll is missing). Instead I ran retail properly and it loads fine, but again, no popup for loading effects on the License Screen and Shift+F2 does nothing there, nor when in-game.
    I guess my question is, for people running Retail via Windower4, should I be following Part 1 or Part 2 of this video? Re Part 2, I have no xiloader.exe to attach to. Or is it that I can't run ReShade with my setup? (my Windower launch is now totes broken :( )
    Thanks for all of your work on the mods and the tutorial videos!

    • @FFXIHDOverhaul
      @FFXIHDOverhaul  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow...you went pretty far down the rabbit hole on that one! MSVCP140.dll is typically associated with Microsoft Visual Studio. Have you tried installing the x64 update for this? www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53840
      For those on Retail, they should definitely be following part 1. Xiloader is specifically for people running on private FFXI servers and is typically configured separately. I should also note that I specifically didn't go into any details because there are a number of different ways to configure Windower4 per server, so I that onus is on the end user. Let me know if the Visual Studio update helps!

      Thanks for the reply.
      I followed any and all troubleshooting I could find regarding that driver, including installation of the 2015 redistributable as you'd suggested. The driver itself had never disappeared and reinstalling or systemfilecheck didn't help. In the end, I removed d3d8.dll from the POL directory and things went back to normal (no ReShade). Hopefully I'm the only one who gets this issue, but it doesn't look like I have a way of using ReShade on my Win7 machine.
      Works fine on my Win10 machine! Unfortunately that's not the one I game on lol

      @FFXIHDOverhaul  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nelson, sorry about the delay. Typically you would download one of my mods and use the setup files contained within. However, I've put together a standalone ReShade package for you here: tinyurl.com/ffxi-reshadesetup
      It includes the preset I setup and have been using recently, but of course it is 100% customizable should you wish to change it. I believe the shortcut for the ReShade menu is now the HOME button (or SHIFT F2 if that doesn't work).

    So for some reason with d3d8.dll put into the folder windower refuses to launch PoL, take it out and it launches. This is on windows 10, however reshade DOES work without the d3d8 it seems.

  • @LandsoulFFXI

    is there a way to run the game in dx11? I've been using dgvoodoo and FFXI runs a lot more stable without nvidia constantly crashing the pol client. But with reshade you have to go back to dx9.

    • @LandsoulFFXI
      @LandsoulFFXI 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dgvoodoo makes FFXI more stable since by default the video card driver will not render the game on the dedicated NVIDIA GPU because its using DirectX 8. Dgvoodoo however forces the game in dx11 and also sets FFXi to your primary video card. This is both helpful for Laptops and Desktop PCs with an onboard GPU. Sadly, you lose this when using Reshade, but hopefully there's a workaround that you can use both.

    • @FFXIHDOverhaul
      @FFXIHDOverhaul  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ukko! I'm going to copy-and-paste the answer I gave to Scapetastic below, as your question is mostly related.
      You may be able to run both ReShade and DGvoodoo in tandem, but you'll likely need to experiment with it. My guess is if you can get DGvoodoo to run correctly, you would then setup ReShade to run on DX10+ and skip copying the DLL from my install folder. Otherwise, if you'd like to troubleshoot your POL crashes with DX9 and ReShade alone, I would make sure of the following:
      In your Nvidia Control Panel, make sure Anti-Aliasing is off, Anisotropic filtering is set to Auto, FXAA is set to off, and DSR is off. If you are running any other driver level tweaks, make sure those are all disabled or removed entirely.
      Another alternative is to use Atom0s' DX8-DX9 proxy DLL instead of Crosire's, which this package uses. You can find his DLL here: ashita.atom0s.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=142 . If you start to see shadow glitches, read the second part of his post to resolve that.

      no bro, xi uses a special dx version, that's why sfx/reshade has always been tricky with it, this is an interesting video tho, never done it with windower, i use my sfx/reshade from ashita and it works fantastic.
      However back when i tossed it all tgether no one was really doing this publicly, so i ended up snagging a russian preset for gta:vc and started making some changes, and before i knew it things looked great ;3

    The only thing I cannot figure out with dgvoodoo2/ReShade is what happens in the zones that you've redone. For whatever reason, everything in the background with DrawDistance seems to be almost white with a ton of what appears to be white fog. Does this make sense?
    I've had no luck in resolving this issue. Thanks in advance to anyone that replies!

    Thank you so much for these! The mega pack was amazing!!
    I am not as tech savvy but for my private server the xi loader file was in the playonline folder, so I pasted the reshade files there.
    When I first ran the reshade plugin upon logging in the game, it told me to install direct x which I did. For some reason when I used reshade it lagged really badly. I am playing from quite a decent laptop (with AMD radeon) that I bought last year. Any reason you think that could be?
    Or what would be the optimal setting that could make it lag less? Can I turn off some things to not lose speed but still got that awesome lighting haha?
    So for now I re deleted the files to disable the plugin totally, but I kinda like how the lighting grounds the figures more in the space.

    • @chapel66

      when i did that, windower wouldnt even launch. would only launch when i deleted the d3d8 file. i had to put the files in the windower folder. weird.

    • @FFXIHDOverhaul
      @FFXIHDOverhaul  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may be on a laptop with switchable graphics. Try the Atom0s Direct3D8 to Direct3D9 Proxy instead and see if that works any better for you. If you experience any issues with lighting/shadows, refer to the second part of the post. ashita.atom0s.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=142
      Also, check your video card control panel to see if there's any options to choose which chipset is preferred for 3D applications.

    • @Rtz89
      @Rtz89 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am and made sure my radeon was in use for the game.
      What I did though was use only the color brush reshade and experimented with which one I needed.
      I reinstalled it only with fake HDR, Colorfulness, Vignette, Bloom, magic bloom, sharpen, levels and curves... I only turned on fake HDR, color and bloom on and it looks much much better without the lag.
      I'm happy with it. Now with your dat files and the adjusted lighting, Sandoria is looking majestic as hell.
      I cannot even believe how good you'll make sky/ sea or windy/ heavens tower look. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!

      It could just be the Reshade preset not behaving exactly the same on your machine. Simply open the Reshade config (home button or shift F2 on keyboard) and adjust it to your liking. If you feel this is not the case, post a screenshot and perhaps I can see what's going on.

  • @joshuaburch9243

    Sorry in advance, this is long.
    First time user and I just installed your June mega bundle. I got the DAT copying done fine, and tried the reshade install, but when I launch, I dont have the grey bar, and dont have the Shift+f2 command. I have a win7 64-bit machine, and use windower on a private server. My shortcut that i use to launch the game points to the windower.exe app in the windower4 folder. i have tried pointing reshade to that, the xiloader file, and the POL file. I have a pol and an xiloader in my FFXI folder, and my POL viewer folder (not sure how or why), tried all of those to no avail, I do not have an xiloader file in my windower folder as shown here though. I have also tried to used the dx 10 option. Nothing gives the reshade upon launch. I made sure to copy the included files to whatever related folder I was pointing at. I'm clueless.
    Additionally, not sure if its related, but the textures look great in game, when standing still. While running, say, in North Sandy, the grass looks very grainy and out of focus, especially if you look further into the distance. almost like the draw distance needs to be adjusted. i like the look, but i feel it will be very hard on the eyes for marathon days of gameplay. I tried multiple zones and the effects are the same in all I went to.
    Any advice you (or anyone else for that matter) could give is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • @FFXIHDOverhaul
      @FFXIHDOverhaul  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joshua, I would suggest you clear out all of the ReShade install files from all locations (uninstall instructions in video description). Then, install ReShade again and point it to the xiloader.exe file. If that doesn't work, try moving the xiloader.exe to your Windower directory, set everything up and then try installing again. Also be sure xiloader.exe isn't blocked by windows (right-click on the file and select unblock at the bottom if you see the option. If it's not there, it's all good).
      It's normal to see a bit of graininess, but not like you're describing and certainly not blurry. I've seen one other person experience the same issue as you regarding the graininess. What video card do you have?
      To troubleshoot, I would start by making sure the background resolution for the game is set as high as your system can handle. For example, mine is set to 4096x4096. Also make sure textures are set to uncompressed. You may also want to see if enabling or disabling mip-mapping helps. You can find these settings in
      \Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ToolsUS\FINAL FANTASY XI Config.exe
      Lastly, Windower does override certain key settings. So you may want to take a look at your graphic settings in Windower, too. Try turning super-sampling on or off, and play with the mip-mapping levels in Windower.
      Hope this helps!

    • @FFXIHDOverhaul
      @FFXIHDOverhaul  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're using Windower (or Ashita) on Retail, you'll still need to point ReShade to POL.exe within the PlayOnlineViewer folder (typically C:\Program Files(x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\)

      Reshade is a visual post-processing hook that adds additional visuals such as motion blur, lens effects, grain, vignettes, artistic effects, color correction and more. Many games have these features built in to some degree, but Reshade gives you full control over an array of these add-ons.
