Follow the Links below to more good videos on each technique separately. Bounty paper towels is the only brand that I've ever been able to fire roll and make char with. Today, for some reason, the fire roll was only successful a couple of times out of several tries. I didn't include any of the fails in this video. Now that I've had a couple of hours to think about it, I may have been over rolling it before checking for ignition. I probably had ignition every single time, but kept on rolling too long and snuffed it out. LOL! Still though, the charred paper towel turned out Great and ignited easily with flint and steel. Cotton & ash fire roll is, hands down, the quickest and easiest method of making fire. Importantly, it requires no tools or carving, no cordage, & very little practiced skill to master it. What's more, cotton & ash are very light weight & compact, even in large quantities. Since learning to fire roll, my kits have, and will remain, cotton/ash dominant. Thanks, Dave. Love your other channel, too.
Easy, fun, long lasting embers, will work with damp ashes or fibers, can be rolled with round top boards, or rolled vertically, one handed fire rolling if injured. I had a video where I fire rolled with my eyes closed. I took it down though because nobody believed that I was keeping my eyes closed.
I just wanted to say thx for great fireroll videos. I watched several before I tried it. I used a 100% cotton ball and some ash residue from my camp stove. Using your technique it almost burst into flame the first time that I tried it. In fact it burnt my fingers when I picked it up lol. I have to say I'm impressed. Good knowledge to have. Thx again.
As an experiment I tried blue shop towels while I was making a batch of denim char cloth, I didn't try a fire roll with them (perhaps I should) but they do take a spark and work, it's not as supple as denim, but they're not too crusty to be unusable as char cloth.
Hi David, happy thanksgiving, thanks for the video, would you say paper towel char has an advantage on cotton char where heat is concerned, or is it you just have less time to produce flame so you blow harder, seems pretty quick from what I see? . Thanks ,David, Allways something interesting to see on your chanel, Best wishes ,Stuart.uk.

Mr Dave My dryer vent always has lint. You might consider trying it for fire making I found it very useful !
All you can do is try.
Another great video brother.

It has less mass so I was using multiple layers. I was blowing harder because I was about to run out of camera power. I was in hurry up mode.
Your right, it is not as easy as it looks.... LOL
Have you ever tried the blue shop paper towels? They are tough but may have chemicals in them. Thanks for the videos.
no
Can you do char cloth and cotton ball as a fire roll?
Yes. See it in my fire roll playlist.
Just random ashes from any fire? Or do you have ash from a specific kind of wood?
All wood ashes work. You'll save time and energy if you visit the playlist before trying.
The core of the earth is molten lava as the earth spins, I think the fire roll works in a similar way.
👍👍🏼👍
