Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge - Planet Coaster Re-Creation

- This is my first full-scale reconstruction of a real-life rollercoaster - or rollercoasters in this case - as I present my rendition of Universal's Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge from Islands of Adventure!

The track layouts are as close to their real-world versions as I can possibly get them. However there are a few minor differences, mainly due to game limitations, miscalculations of scale as well as it being created from scratch only using my own memories and experience of riding both coasters as well as using images from Google Earth.
The other major difference is the queue line, which is in fact just a normal footpath - again due to game limitations - you cannot have a single queue path for two rides, so expect a load of people willing to walk ‘onto’ the ride, only to chicken out at the last second and walk away. On top of that, the scenery and footpath layout are also different, but I have tried to get it as close to what it is/used to be in real life.
Both tracks do indeed sync near-perfectly through the ‘near miss’ sections when running adjacent to one another - which can only truly work once when testing, because again... game limitations... So ironically, both tracks run separately when open, which isn’t such a bad thing because it is what the ride does now in real life (sadly)
So that’s pretty much it, but here’s some quick Q&A’s to clear up a few things.
1. How do I get both rides to run together? - You’ll need to close both rides and wait for their little ‘preparation’ sequence to finish. Then pause the game and set both rides to test, un-pause and check to see if both trains leave the station together. If they do, great! If not, then pause, close, test, un-pause until they do.
2. Why are there skulls in the caves? - If you’ve never been on Duelling Dragons before the ‘Potter’ update, the caves in the queue line used to be littered with little skulls in the walls. On top of that, there used to be a cool frozen knight on a horse just before that, which I wanted to put in, but sadly, there’s no objects like that in-game.
3. How long did it take to make? - Several weeks on-and-off, but in-game, only a few hours. The tracks themselves were relatively quick and easy to make, whereas the scenery was a bit of a pain in the backside.
4. Will you make other Universal rides? - It depends. I want to make the Incredible Hulk coaster quite badly in PC, but for some reason there’s no ‘Twister’ coaster type in the game yet. Not only that, but the launch systems on rollercoasters in the game have to be horizontal. However, I have faith that Frontier will release a similar coaster type to the Hulk soon!
5. Can you upload the tracks individually to the Workshop? - No. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just the fact that I can’t without the whole setup breaking. I mean, sure I could upload both tracks and the castle, but there’s the footpath, the terrain edits and several other factors to consider. So instead of asking for individual pieces of the puzzle, why not just have the whole set in one little bundle?

It has come to my attention - despite being announced two weeks prior - that Unversal's Dragon Challenge/Dueling Dragons has finally come to an end. I will not lie in saying that when I found out two days ago, that I was deeply saddened. Dueling Dragons was, and will remain as one of my all-time favourite rollercoasters, and seeing them go is a deep loss. What's worse is that they are to be scrapped completely, and therefore won't be moving to another park. Therefore, in an ironic twist of fate, this re-creation might end up being one of the only ways of experiencing what the coasters were like, to those who weren't fortunate enough to get a chance to ride them.
I just hope that whatever new rollercoaster that's said to replace it is just as thrilling as these two, but seeing as Universal has already stated it to be "family friendly" I have my doubts it'll be as intense.

I agree with you, Jet. This ride was phenomenal and unlike anything that had ever been released. As of yesterday, the Dragons have made their final flights. Rest well Dragons, they will be missed.
Good news JetStream. They kept a loop track from one of the coasters. Maybe they will encorperate it into the new coaster :)
Fantastic recreation, I too am sad here in the UK, my elder brother was always the coaster enthusiast i really enjoyed riding duelling dragons when i was at Universal 1 year after it opened the only time I have been to Florida, Nemesis at Alton Towers is my all time favourite coaster, i think due to the age i was when i first rode it. And Fire and Ice remain the only other B&M inverters ive ridden, ive yet to to Batman. I just love the design of the cars, the feel of the ride and was in awe of the synchronisation of this B&M. Universal have made a mistake ripping it out, citing running costs, Its as far as i'm aware the only B&M to get destroyed so far Batman is 7 years older and Nemesis 5 yrs older and both are running fine. Infact Air/Galatica a later B&M design at Alton breaks down more than anything else in the park. It would have been a highlight of any return trip I made to florida. It seems Disney and Universal are becoming non go zones for coaster fans.
As a former dragon handler (I worked at Dragons from 2014-2016) I loved this video! Very realistic!

Can we say this is the most aesthetic roller coaster ever build by B&M. So sad they did demolish the roller coaster :(. BTW, nice recreation. May I know how long you made this?
