For the esc fan, take the fan cover off and just bolt the fan on without the shroud. With the fan it has a little bit of play up and down and what happens is when you land bad or hard it pushes up and the fan blade catches the opening on the fan cover and snaps the fan. I took my fan cover off and now I haven’t broken a fan since. I used to break 2 fans a day but taking the cover off fixed it.

Agree. Thats what I told him to. The magnet has to be close enough to the coil contact point to generate electricity through it. I was taught how to set the gap using a matchbook cover, I've used that method on any small engine I have worked on and it usually works, I think its the same thickness as a playing card.

Real specs is like 30 thousenths
and kev flooded the engine before he even tried pulling the cord, look at the spark plug its covered in raw gas. you only have to push the primer bulb 3 or 4 times anymore and your just pouring gas into carb, put full choke on, pull until you hear it sputter a little, take the choke off and then pull a few times, should start right up. if it doesnt repeat the process but after you take the choke off hold the throttle down half way only. My experience is from being around chainsaws and 2 stroke engines my entire life.If it doesnt start up after 3 times of that procedure youve flooded it. Dont keep pulling its not going to do you any good, just pull the plug out and let the gas evaporate.

I agree with the other folks ,playing card to gap the coil to the fly wheel ,and reverse the cables on the coil on the cut off,if the cable switcheroo doesn't work it might be the case that it's + on the coil and - to the chassis as a earth maybe ,keep up the good work ,nice to see Pat in the videos too 😉
If it's getting spark when the kill switch is unplugged, the coil gap IS FINE. The issue is likely the wiring harness between the coil and switch.
With the hobby wing you have to take the Metal shield off or it will do that to the fan we do that in 1/8 scale racing every time. Please try so you will have better luck with the hobby wing.
If it has low or no spark Buy an feeler gauge to set armature gap u can look up the distance it needs to be from the flywheel with the last five digits on the rewind starter.
I have a 1995 traxxas bandit with the original esc fan and ive jumped it about 1221 times and it still works
The gap in the coil from the flywheel should be the width of a card or you can get a special part. It also sounds too lean. One tip is not to keep pulling it after 8 or more pulls as you will just flood it. Always start with the choke on.
Starting sequence once you got spark is choke on 2 slow pulls draw fuel into carb one sharp pull so engine pops then choke off then fast pull car will fire up 2 pulls max p.s. Great channel
Forget everything else u do need to set your coil gap use a card and as for the killswitch try reversing the wires to the reciever or try setting it to off then see if it starts or just swap it out get a switchblade v2 or killerbee I had every cheap killswitch going and always had starting problems or false kills till I got a switchblade

you should put a playing card between the flywheel and coil it makes a good spacing
The flywheel only goes on The same way there is no adjustment on that for a gap because it just goes right on the crank shaft and the woodruff key is what holds it in place along with the flywheel bolt

I think the issue with the baja is that the killswitch has identified a low battery voltage so its cutting the engine off to prevent a runaway
U got to press 3rd channel on the transmitter to turn it on or off
I’ve replaced tons of engine coils and I use a business card to set the gap for the coil
Very good possibility that you got a bad kill switch. I would recommend a killer 🐝 kill switch, I’ve got three on different rigs. I have also read that sometimes the kill switches create interference with the cheaper spark plugs that come stock with these rcs. Maybe try replacing the plug with an NGK. It’s clear that it’s not a flywheel gap problem as you are getting spark when the switch is unplugged. Good luck guys! Btw, the business card spacing is an acceptable way
Think the switch needs to be switched around as i think it is shorting out the spark plug . Also theres alot of carbon on that spark plug. I think you need to put some thicker oil in the engine
The coil gap should b a business card and check the kill switch with a millimeter u may need to adjust the end point on the channel u r using

Use a business card to set the coil gap also kill switches can be a little funny if used on a channel with a 3 position switch.

To set the gap just use a business card it works for snow blowers so I would imagine it would work for that it’s basically the same
Pinion wont come off because u use grenn or red threadlock on grub screws. Overkill! Also, buy a wtf(wild turbo fan) fan, the best in the business!!
You should get a Stampede 4x4 VXL, they have the durability of the slash but they are a monster truck

Use a business card between the flywheel and coil when the magnets bite then tighten the coil down the good to good 🤘
Switch the wires around on the coil and that might help.
If you can't get your kill switch working you could try set up an extra servo that pinches the fuel line. A fail safe is always a good bet aswell
put some card stock between your coil and your flywheel to properly gap it
i think it is the metal chassis, that causes all of the shock to the electrics, therefore killing the electrics.
Your battery also can be nearly dead wich will still produce a spark but the safety switch will know it is nearly dead and not letting the car make a spark
I brought the same kill switch as you for my Baja Q shorty and it never worked and the reason being it wasn’t compatible with it for some reason so had to instal a switchblade one now it works fine
kev i also have one of these and if you leave them sitting for a long time without draining the carb it would not start and you would have to take the carb apart and clean it or get a new carb

Isn’t that the trx 4 remote if so your putting it on a switch with 3 positions? Try it in the channel for the hi gear low gear? Maybe? Maybe not? Any different 👍🏻 might be worth a try?

You need to put a dollar in the gap of the coil that will make it run
The coil is too far away from the fly wheel use a match look to space it and it will run

Hey Kevin I was just going thru some stuff and for small computer fans same size as most esc fans so I'm thinking of using it. I can send a picture of it I'll post make model as soon as possible
First test the kill switch on an other rc car and if it works you must get a new engin or sparkplug otherwise it will not work
Once the 1/5 scale acts like it’s gonna start after choke, turn choke off and then she’ll fire right up. I have a KM 34cc
Turn off the light an it will work when the light is on it means it will cut off if it runs away

Kev use a business card to set the coil gap, did check the orientation of the jumpers aswell on the killswitch to suit the battery voltage? Personally I don’t like those dynamite kill switches not had much luck with them myself

Kev , I checked on You Tube @ JT12's R/C that the cut off goes inbetween the throttle wire to the receiver and then the other end to the receiver itself . Hope it helps

Wouldn't blame Hobbywing for the fans. They're designed to be efficient and nothing else. Hobbywing is a brand that's mainly focused on racing, and therefore their stuff isn't designed to take as hard hits as you give them. With that being Said, I would Look for a fan that has been built to take anything you'll throw at it, so you'll need to Look for brands that have no strong ties to the racing Part of The industry. Stay away from brands like WTF or RUDDOG that have some of the best fans I've seen, as they aren't supposed to Be used on bashers.
Esc fans need to be computer fans last longer but I don’t want a electric one unless I I have a overheating petrol engine and require water cooling atleast with a petrol you can have fun with it just start it up to keep it from getting stiff and clean the carb once and a while you have to do maintenance on a electrical probably why it catches on fire electric maybe power but the esc blows up at any signs of struggling with gas it powers through like it’s first gear
@@jonathanoxlade4252 I wouldn't probably trust a computer fan to stay in one piece in an RC car... And I don't know what kind of ESC I would fit a 100-140mm fan on.
put a pt motors long can in the kraton it has insane torque try a vxl fan on the esc

Looks to be a short circuit somewhere or could it be possible that the switch isn't suitable for the current? put it in front of me and I'll fix it in minutes, seconds even lol..

to all the 'mechanics' that blame the coil gap... if it where that ; then he would not have a spark when he unplugs the kill switch.
the issue is the wiring of the kill switch and the electronics in it. simple logic. and basic mecanic; sparks are not magical .. it either has the proper gap or does not ; it wont reset just by unpluging a wire. ...

I have the same kill switch on my 5t 2.0 and it works fine....check your rx batt voltage....u can set the voltage to a specific cut off
I have a 2 traxxas revo 3.3 and traxxas rustler vxl and traxxas big foot and rc28t
Had the same issue with the 3rd channel receiver it started working again when I switched receiver
Except its not putting out 32kg of torque with that factory BEC you run more like 20kg

hpi fans last along time cos I have a hpi ( its brushles)
wires are backwards
