Did I Save $30,000 buying the Cheapest Amazon Tire Machine?

- Efficiency is key. Haveing to drive a total of two hours to get new tires on our cars to resell is not good. So I bought this tire machine on Amazon. This is the XK USA (also know as the mayflower). Do you think I made a good purchase?

Buying a Car Doesn't Have to Suck™
You can’t keep adding weights… it’s called counterbalance. But Tire will be bouncing all over the place now. If you place the way, it’s the first time, then respin it shows more weights. You have to pull the weights back off and redo it again.
Agreed. Nothing more annoying than seeing weights all over the rim.
Awesome
Its amazing how many times you see tires counterbalanced if they would have replaced the first weight and did it correctly there is no need for counterbalancing.
Is it sometimes necessary to rotate the tire in the wheel and try again?
On this balancer there is a static and Dynamic setting. Static will place the weight in one place on the wheel and takes one spin. Dynamic will place weight on both sides of the rim in two different places. When you spin it the second time it it places a smaller amount of weight on two sides of the wheel. On the third spin it may or may not ask for weight. Yes, the wheel is full of weight, but he wheel is also perfectly balanced. I personally prefer road force balancing. These cheap balancers are better for static balancing motorcycles than cars.
I bought these in 2018 for 1,520.00. Definitely worth it I’ve done many tires and flat repairs for myself and friends and they have worked flawlessly.
Take a tire that you know is perfectly balanced from another place and put it on to see if your machine see's it that way also.
It won't Ask me how I know. The tire machines work very well but the balancers not so good.
For the balancing machine, you need to have one steely reserved as the “calibrated” wheel to ensure that the balancer stays calibrated and you recalibrate it to the one wheel every time. Also you should have at least three different sets of wheel weights for all the different verity of wheels out there. You should should try your best to get all the weight in one spot on both sides. If it tells you to add weight in one spot and then on the rerun add more weight in another spot. Typically if you shoot for the middle of that and add the difference between the two weights you’ll hit the sweet spot and it’ll come out 0 with just one weight on one side. Do the same for the opposite side and your in business. The downside is that you’ll have to do multiple runs and math, lol. I also recommend keeping two tire weight tools for they come in handy.
Mike check the box, should be a shield that covers the tire as it spins.
It's Chinese, that shield is just there to protect whoever is using the machine. The Chinese do not care about those kinds of things.
Bought the same one, no shield was there. Def something I need to look into buying.
You can go one of 2 ways. Order all the different styles of hammer on weights in all the possible increments and buy the sticky weights for rim styles that you don't use hammer weights OR just use sticky weights for everything.
I came to embrace the sticky weights. had a cheap hammer on weight rifle itself through a fender flare one time. Luckily it was my own truck
Stick weights are the way. Hammer ons ruin nice wheels cars have now
I keep hammer on weights around for the occasional steel wheel. I like them better than the stick-ons for steel wheels.
Sticky weights are the right way to go, doesn’t damage the wheel coating that way.
The weight is for calibration of the machine. Keep that weight.
Lol...yeah
I’ve never seen a 7 foot tall tire machine, they’re usually about 5 maybe 6. All I did in 2000 to 2004 was change tire’s working at my Uncle’s shop.
Um, where's the safety shield on the balancer that everyone else has/uses?? I'd hate to see a weight fly off and severely injure someone!
If you havent found wheel weights yet, you can gt them at Oreilly Ayto Parts. In any weight you will need. Comes in a box. I forget how much is in each box. I used to sell them to a mom and pop tire shop in the town I live in when I worked at Oreilly.
American tire distributors. You will need 0.25-5.00 weights the smaller weights are more needed but you want those sizes. Also stick on weights for the inside of the rims on fancy rims.
@0:35... Wait, why would you EVER need to Uber? You have an entire lot filled with cars. @5:00... The Hunter stuff is expensive because when you buy it, the Hunter guy comes and sets it up, calibrates it and instructs you on how to use it. Also, they come with a great warranty. If you ever have a problem, Hunter sends out a tech to fix it. You're paying for the service. @8:17... Any time the balancer says to put weights across form each other, I usually dismount the tire, rotate it 90 degrees on the wheel and remount it.
Because we can’t leave the store without grant or myself. Mrs chevy dude is buying cars and she needs to stay on computer to do that. My daughter is doing her work as well. So it logistic craziness to do so.
@@ChevyDude The Hunter guy will also send you enormous bills, make excuses why warranty won't cover anything- and constantly tell you that you need to buy newer stuff. You did the right thing for what you need- the skill of the operator means more than anything else at this point.
I own 4 of these tire machines and they work great oldest 1 is 5 years old and newest one came in last week. So far no major issues with any of them.
Mike, you need a shield over the tire, like I am sure your past dealer had. This keeps any weights from flying off and hitting you or someone else or a window. Also balancing a tire with rocks in the tread from fling off. That the way it is sitting is very dangerous.
Remove rocks first a cover isn't needed.
A tire has a special place on where the valve stem goes and that is to help balance it better as the manufacturer allows for the stem when making the tire.
I have always been told that is what the colored dot on the tire is for. You put the dot at the valve stem. That is supposed to make the tire balance better.
Thanks for sharing your video. Looking forward to buying this combo for home use.
Prob should have upped the budget for tools a little. $5-6k could get you equipment that you can at least get parts and service for when they break.
On can call em up and get parts shipped direct but a lot is fairly universal
You can tell if it is balanced if you put wheel back on, and balancer say 0 again
It won't read the same twice. I know because I have one and it hasn't worked right from day 1. The owner of Mayflower Justin refuses to do anything about it.
@@popatop6657 never trust a guy named justin. because he JUST wants his product IN your hands and dont care if its broke.
just in, justin.
You should’ve put the balancer to the left in the corner and the tire machine in the middle. One day you’ll fight a tire and wish you had more room around it.
people say all the old ones are rusted out in the bottom and they wish they sprayed oil on stuff at the bottom so in 20 yrs it isnt rusted out
Nope. That isn’t even that much weight Smfh 1.25 that machine needs to be COMPLETELY STABLE NOT MOVING AT ALL TO BALANCE PROPERLY. You are smart enough to know this man.
I love how Chevy Dude still calls it Twitter, good for him!
Get stick on weights, cannot use hammer on weights on alloys, can use stick on all rims
If it works that's a killer deal
Get name brand balancer and mounter and have the company come set it up and walk you through it and WARRANTY IT!
Balance beads work good for most tires, saves money and time. Just place the heads inside the tire as you mount it.
For the few tires that beads won't work well in using the clip on or stick on weights works.
Doesn’t the beads destroy the tpms sensors?
@@engrxtn I don't see how they could, the tpm sensors are mounted on the wheel, beads run on the tread area of the tire when the tire spins and collect at the bottom of the tire when still, never get anywhere near the wheel.
Tires shouldn't be stacked vertically like that.
65 cars and it's paid off just by Uber savings on $40 per car with a purchase price of $2600... You'll make that back quickly....
I used to work for a small tire store, if it helps we used to get our wheel weights directly from the tire distributor, we used American Tire Distributors.
American Tire is a great company. Bought from them for several years.
Third this, if he’s anywhere near a ATD distribution center then it’s same or next day delivery on weights
To save time and money, also keeping the weight only on the back side. Along with a long list of reasons I always static balance my wheels. Which just means setting the machine up to only put weights on the inside lip
You get what you pay for My chevy dud
I have the Mayflower cheap equipment and have used them for years with no issues!
I glad that you finally afford that
Ur mom can finally afford this dix
Myers tire supply sells a whole rack system with every wheel weight. Also, you'll need boxes of stick on weights for wheels with no outer lip.
Definitely needs a shield to cover the rotating portion. Somebody gets to close, loose clothing, God forbid hair, or trips and falls into that is serious bad news.
I have to agree. It's certainly not OSHA complient.
Yes I agree also he needs to learn how to balance tires right way
just keep accident prone rtards away when operating it an your fine.
@@darkshadowsx5949 A harsh but true comment. I grew up in a family with a small industrial business, with extremely carefully chosen employees, often using very old heavy equipment that didn't meet modern safety requirements ('modern' as in 1960's through 1980's), and was very carefully taught how to stay safe. In my later years working outside the family business in larger organizations, I have met some REAL accident prone Eff Tards who cannot be saved by safety features on wheel balancers etc; I don't see how the accident prone guys could possibly still be alive today.
It's not going to roll straight on gravel...
The one-wheel weight that you got with the machine it's a 100g that is used for calibrating the machine which is usually ideal to do when the machine is brand new and in a box I did tyre fitting for over 20 years if you balance a we'll after you have put the weight on it and it says it once more spin the wheel to see where it is if it is not at the 12:00 position and it is at the 6:00 position that means whatever amount of weight that the wheel wants is too much by whatever the balance has says so you need to subtract that amount
For the balancer you have to use the function button to tell the machine if you are using hammer on or stick on and what type of balance other wise it’s just doing a basic static balance
I was always told that if a tire way out of balance, break the bead down and rotate 1/3 time around rim! Then you don't have to add very much weight???
Miss you guys!!
just fill them with fix a flat liquad balance lol
Wow, that looks like a great deal but just remember you get what you pay for !
Yeah and sometimes you get a lot more, or if you're just a fool with your money... you get a lot less.
Would have been nice to see the tire machine in action.
I'm still waiting for the race against Honda Civic you posted a video on almost 2 years ago
Keep the extra brush. They wear out overtime.
Not sure where you are getting prices at 20-30-40K for the high end equipment. 15-16K will get you some of the better equipment. ATD or Wurth for tire weights and supply's
If it showed 1.25 I’d put 1.00 and normally it would balance out
Does anyone know of a mobile full tire service ?
Hello Chevy Dude
Take class on this just look it up on line
That balancer would like you to help it to get started spinning, says so in the manual.
A few comments on here about the lack of a safety shield for the balancer; I am thinking it is acceptable on this machine to not have one.
When I was in HS, we had a shop class wheel balancer that would spin the wheel ripping fast, and the shield on that thing was needed. It seems that many modern machines including this one spin the wheel quite slow. It SEEMS like a lead weight won't fly far/fast if it does come off, so I don't perceive a safety problem. Perhaps any sort of eye glasses could be a good idea.
I DO wonder if dynamic balancers give different answers for different speeds of spin. My tires are balanced for the times I am going 60 to 80 MPH, not for when I am going 20.
Great Video! How much does those machines weight being shipped? Did you need a forklift to get it of the truck?
That's true franchise dealerships have a huge overhead that's why they charge so much. Same thing with buying or leasing a car go to a leasing broker it is way less you will be surprised
Great video! Might be the cheapest semi-automatic tire changer; but you can get one for cheaper, same with a balancer. It is just a lot more work, and it needs to be bolted to the floor.... XD
I did tires a while ago, when it balances that way you need to move the weight around otherwise it's only a counter balance on that side
ohh man you need the hood of safety for that tire balancer. And I don't think the accuracy is good if you have to hold the balancer from jiggling around. Get that thing sorted out lol
i payed 1600.00 for mine works great
Sort through all of that back room clutter then put everything that is worth keeping up off the floor on shelves and tire racks.
I got a cheap tire changer from harbor frieght for 50 bucks before and i got 2 sets of tires done before it fell apart 😅
Should put the Amazon link in the description.
I have seen wheel weights sold at Harbor Freight.
Loving her comments!!!!!
I'm very happy for you and u r show .
The one weight is to calibrate the machine
Perfect height for Rich. 😂.
If you do like those machines. I would love to see some how to videos on both. Because like you, it would save me a bunch of time
I posted some videos a couple months back with descriptions and tips for operation
You don’t have the detailing shop in the dealership anymore? I guess I missed that episode.
Get wall mount tire racks.
I think you need a Union Card to do that type of thing.
Any update on how they ride ?
Shipping the balancer on it's side?? NOT a good idea.
I wonder if for '24 we can add MeGill and Peterson to the starting rotation and Bhutto for long relief?
If you don’t know what you doing changing tires it can be dangerous. You must have a very good tire changing machine, or you will mess up and scratch the rims up which may cost you more in the long run. Also you can get hurt if you do not know what you are doing. I can’t imagine a $2500 machine can change tires and wheels without messing them up.
Wait till you mess up a set of expensive wheels with scratches and have to replace them, you will be crying the blues. Good luck buddy.
LOL you don't know anything about these tire machines. They're clones or whatever of Coats Hunter etc without the price. Used in small shops for years without a hicccup. You probably think SnapOn is premium too...not anymore. Read about SnapOn vs Harbor Freight floor jack lawsuit. HF presented evidence the jacks are identical model from same manufacturer catalog...with a label. SnapOn $1200, HF $200
Interesting 🤔
Cheap means not reliable not reliable means dangerous.
Put them in a small utility trailer with a small generator?
I got to say, I wouldn't have gone for the cheapest. It is cheap until it breaks and has to be replaced. Then a better quality one would pay for itself and then some. I assume you doing tires in bulk so it will get more wear than a home user would give it.
They're cheap but not necessarily low quality. These China models are basically identical to older Coats or Hunter models. Probably made in same factory. Many users and small shops around the country have them. 1 guy has done 1000 wheels no issues.
Bentpack has helped a lot of You Tubers
But why the cheapest one instead of maybe a better quality one?
I made a vid showing some tips on em
you tell me Ms. chevy dube
Guys who load and reload their own ammo will be happy to take your used wheel-weight lead from you.
Don't plan on doing high performance tires with that thing... Hunter is expensive for a reason... I used to own a cheap Chinese tire machine like that and switched to hunter... never looked back. It will get you through with normal tires but you're going to scratch rims on high performance tires
Only thing with Hunter equipment is if you do buy it then start doing high end vehicles... you will recoup you're money and then some. It's hard to find a place that won't scratch rims. I have the road force elite, the TC39 tire machine and the Hawkeye Elite Alignment machine and I can work on whatever comes into my shop with 100% confidence
Amazon lift?
Was going to buy these right before covid and didnt, wish i would have, they would have paid for themselves with the first two set of tires i had to buy. Around here if ypu bring tires in, they either refuse to install them on the rim, or they overcharge.
Yep I got some recently and coulda saved about $500, shoulda bought in 2020. But got em now. Made some vids on em
So Mike you have a supervisor, that’s what happens in marriage
Eh. Amazon does enough to save money. 😂
why would you need uber
That cheapest machine will probably break sooner and there's no warranty for it. You'll be having to spend thousands more to replace.
Nope, used in shops all over the country for years without a hiccup. 1 guy did a 1,000 tire review. They're clones of coats/hunter
The tire machines are great, the balancers are JUNK, TOTAL JUNK! I invite you and everybody else that has one of these machines to balance a tire and take it off the machine and then put it back on and check the balance again, these machines will NOT show the same balance readings twice in a row. I have called
Justin that sales the Mayflower machines out of California to only get excuses like that it is working properly, the last time I spoke with him he told me not to call back.
I thought it was cheapest time machine
Yeah that machine wont last plus doubt it will be able to do low profile wheels but myers is a supplier i would look into
LOL you don't know anything about these machines. Used in shops all across the country
How much yunk you save 😅😂😂😂🤦🏽♂️🤣🤣
Yeeee😃
Uber? Really?
Like 👍 😮
Less Mrs. Chevy Dude please.
$30 000 for tire machine? Is u ill?
WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!
This is a horrid video, it does not provide any practical information whatsoever for someone looking into buying these machines or ones like it for themselves. thumbs down... The only slightly redeeming quality of these videos is in the comments other people who have had these machines for years add useful comments... assuming they are not lying or trolling (like that ever happens on the interweb)
