Yvette reminded me of a young homeless woman I see in my neighborhood. She happens to be Asian American. And when night fall comes she makes a little sleeping space at the covered entrance to one of the buildings in the nearby strip mall. I briefly talked with her. She is bright and I can tell she comes from a good home (I know, addiction is ethnic & economic blind). I just felt sorry to see this young person full of potential be consumed by addiction. I was wondering what the best thing is I could do for her?
Change the american system is not possible at our scale unfortunately. But you can bring her food, make sure she’s ok and talk to her 10 minutes every day. It can be difficult but I guess you can learn a lot from her and perhaps even help her a lot
Why are you separating people by race in the first place? There isn't white only treatment or something. There's no reason to focus on Asian addicts, we just treat all addicts noooww... Also, the place isn't different from others. People are obviously free to leave a rehab at any time, and plenty do relapse and then come back, obviously.
