I also bought E36 compact in the end of 2023. Paid 1800€. Brought to my garage from 300km and haven't moved it since. It's in great shape, brownish/red all leather interior, silver gray (?) paint, 1.9L engine, auto transmission. I haven't seen any rust. But technically it needs maintenance. Filters, oil, coolant, power steering fluid change (steering is a bit heavy). Now weather is warmer and I will slowly start doing stuff. I want to drive this baby, it's a beast, it has automatic transmission but with 1.9 engine it's very active. I was surprised how quickly it moves from 0. I'm not Street racer but I just love the energy
Sounds like a great example and you're in quite a similar position to me. This one needs a good recommissioning then it will be thoroughly enjoyed. The 1.9 engine is very characterful, really fun to drive around.
I took so many pictures of this car, evry day I go shopping to coop I need to go through your street just to look at it :D your car always makes me smile! Can I pop in one day to look at it from close?
I did the same job in 2019 on my first compact, and in few weeks I'm gonna do the same on the new compact project. I have used the ones like the 2nd ebay link, and they were for a e39. Too bad I didn't have my yt channel at the time to film it all and make a tutorial, but gonna do a video on this one for sure! Otherwise, got some interesting compact restauration videos on my channel, and if you are interested take a look at the videos and leave a comment if you like them or know a better way of doing things. Cheers!
Great video, what a coincidence I was looking into put E36 adjustor motor into E30 head light and get rid of old hydraulic stuff which never works.. only difference is ball end on shaft is bit thicker than E30 .if u have spare white insert can you check if it will fit into E30 head light..very informative video thanks
IIRC the Compact headlights are different from all the other E36 headlights, they use other bulbs and go apart differently. I was really confused when trying to take apart my 'new' projector headlights. And did I spot a Cybox stainless catback exhaust?
Having seem some absolutely wrecked cars that people would drive in the not too distant past I am rather glad we have it. Although, bizarrely in the UK, once a vehicle is more than 40 years old it is exempt, I'm not arguing that they shouldn't be but it seems very odd.
Pro tip - Don't use any soap or water to clean the reflectors, cuz it WILL wipe the chrome off! Don't know what kind of paint did they use, but it dissolves with water. The same is on e46 and volvo s60, so probably the same thing on all headlights. Dry microfiber towel will do just fine to take the dust off.

Hi Michal. Glad you like the car, and if you're passing and see me working on the car I am happy to have a chat.
Great tutorial, thanks.
Cheers

Thanks. I will take a look. Always some good things to do with these old Beemers. Take care.

Glad it was useful. I don't know what BMW where thinking with that hydraulic stuff.

Thanks for sharing. Not sure about the brand of the exhaust, I'll check out Cybox, it is a bit loud!
@@SPANNERRASHIt looks a lot like mine, and I have a Cybox one. It is indeed a bit louder than stock haha
@@MrRockinRein Haha more than a bit! 🤭 I do quite like it though.
@@SPANNERRASH I can send you a picture of mine via IG if you like, so you can compare if its the same one 😁

Thanks. I dodged a bullet there, thought I was just being lazy :)
