I felt this to my core. I can’t even tell u how many times I ended up with orange cheetah spots, messed up “streaks” (I’m a 90s baby, my hair breaking off into oblivion lol. My middle school/ high school days were wild with my hair. I’m WAYYY better now lol after 15 years lol

as someone who was born platinum and had every shade of blonde slowly darken every year and now at a dishwater blonde sometimes i'm tempted to dye it myself at home...then i watch these bleach fails and am humbled. to the salon!

I only halfway agree on the cost issue you mentioned. While it's true, going to Sally's, you can easily drop a good 100$ to 300$ in there getting all the supplies needed to initially bleach, tone, and/or color your hair at home. I've done it myself before. However something to consider is that when I did drop that 300$ at Sally's at least ⅓ of the supplies are reusable (brushes, dishes, measuring, caps, etc..) while the rest of the supplies lasted me well over a year in terms of touch ups, maintenance, or even color changes and redyes later. So in terms of initial cost, you're correct, but in terms of long term cost, you are incorrect. ❤

I have a hard time going to a salon personally due to some bad experiences with bad stylists, however I will never take away the fact that good stylists do deserve the pay they get. As private contractors that 300$ session has to pay chair rental, taxes, way over 300$ worth of supplies, insurance, education, etc.. etc.. etc.. so I do still believe they're worth what's being charged. I made my own dread extensions a few years back and it took me well over 6 months of work to finish them and finally get them in my hair. It's not easy work for sure. I also agree with Brad that if you're going to do your own hair at home you really need to be ready and willing to accept it should you eff it up. So I get it. I'm willing. Not everyone is and that's alright. =3

Except for my hair length I could get away with only paying $150 at Sally’s for everything and the only thing I went through entirely was the developer because I got the small bottle. Plus it turned out great because I did my research and took 4 hours to do everything. I definitely saved myself a ton of money.
I agree. I have a good amount of thick hair, I just bleached my roots (let them grow out for an entire year to make about 6 inches😬) and it costs me $100 give or take just a few dollars if I need bleach, toner, purple shampoo for in between, developer, etc! If I had to do my whole head I’d say probably add another $50 to $100 but much of that can be used for touch ups in between actual bleaching, bowls brushes etc can be reused so for me it’s more time consuming and slightly less pretty but it still saves me about $100-$150 rather than paying and tipping a stylist!
I just foiled by whole head twice a month ago. Then a touch up this week. It costed me almost 300$ for all of the supplies. Wella toner is expensive as hell these days

Brad! I got 3 colors of XMondo and mixed them to have a total of 6 colors. I have curly hair (fine hair with loose coils). I had been bleaching and maintaining it platinum for a long time, my hair was damaged and I decided to try something edgy. (It took 3 of us 5hrs) We put 1 color on each curl, not letting any of them touch the same color. It came out healthy and ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! 💯 🙌 ❤ THANK YOU BRAD MONDO!!

This is the first time I've seen someone in a hair fail where I just want to know more about the person before anything about the hair process started. Just from her nonchalantly saying "without running water", it's obvious she's been doing the van living for some time and I want to know so much about that.

I think she lives in the van so the only way she'd have enough running water was if she used a shower somewhere. Maybe that's not an option or maybe she doesn't feel comfortable dying her hair in a public bathroom.
Bleaching hair at home is dangerous, when it does not break after the process, just wait 3 weeks and you will see the breakage. Talking by experience. Never again. But love watching people going through it! 😂

@@charisma-hornum-fries my hair does not resist bleaching, if does not break completely will look and feel dread. 😟 And for me it’s not worth, I prefer to have a healthy hair. Nowadays ( I am 54) I am becoming blond because of the overwhelming amount of white hair I have. I am changing my strategy of permanent color, level 7, to semi permanent level 8 with 6% developer, to avoid that my dark hair will turn orange. Let’s see in six months how it looks. All for my hair quality. 🤷♀️
I live in my van and have 100% bleached my hair in my van with only a couple of gallons of water :) It was to lighten it to dye later that day. I stopped into a rest stop and did an extra rinse in the sink :)

Lol, brad would laugh so hard watching me help my mom with her hair on our farm for most of my life. We usually do it outside and all the horses watch us when we do it ( they are in the field in front of my house so if we go outside they like to come say hi).
Totally agree with brad, the cost of time, materials and mental struggle compare to paying a hairdresser must be quite equal, i guess some people like the excitement 😅.
You always say it's better to go to a hairstylist to bleach hair, but I've been bleaching my hair by myself for most of my life, and I saved sooo much money. I just need 1 box lightener every 2 months that costs 8,45€. 😅 And it turns out great every time.

@tarynriver just go to a hairstylist once to get it all even. Then you just have to do the roots, and those are easy. I mean, it's a bit tricky in the back, but not impossible, or you can even get someone to help you with the back part. I do it differently than Brad. I go from the front part of the head to the back. That is more manageable for me personally.
i think he's saying it's less expensive to go to a hairstylist when you make a bunch of mistakes and end up needing to go back to the beauty store several times to get a lot of new bleaches to try to keep fixing all the mistakes.... but also not only that, it's expensive to your hair as well because of all the damage you can risk doing to your hair when you don't know what you're doing and keep reapplying bleach, brushing your hair roughly after washing bleach out etc etc when it'd be nicer to your hair to go to a professional who knows what they're doing and can give you tips on how to care for your hair... that's how i understand it anyway.
God i wish my employer let us have colors outside "natural colors only". I'd buy those color shift masks in a heartbeat. Also the girl who did the blonde with the bags did wonderfully for doing at home.

Sorry, Brad, but it doesn't cost $300 to do it at home, maybe $60-$80 when you're all said and done and that's even with having to fix it a few times. The last time I went to a stylist, I was quoted $400 for my long hair.
It has neverrrr cost me $300 to dye my hair Brad, nice sales tactic though! $65 at most and that tub of bleach and developer will out live that project so next time around it's like $20-$30 depending on the length of hair and what im doing.
I just paid £82 for a hairdresser to spend 2.5 hours bleaching up my 3" of regrowth for me to dye it pink again. I'd spend about the same amount of time doing it myself but finish sweaty and exhausted. Worth every penny.

I've bleached my hair at home for 20 years. It's not dangerous when you know what you ate doing. Especially today with Olaplex and Blondme etc.
@@charisma-hornum-fries yes i would not say it's dangerous but it is risky! i did it multiple time and it was good but it would probably have been better and healthier for my hair to not do it at home
@@charisma-hornum-fries my hair does not resist bleaching, if does not break completely will look and feel dread. 😟 And for me it’s not worth, I prefer to have a healthy hair. Nowadays ( I am 54) I am becoming blond because of the overwhelming amount of white hair I have. I am changing my strategy of permanent color, level 7, to semi permanent level 8 with 6% developer, to avoid that my dark hair will turn orange. Let’s see in six months how it looks. All for my hair quality. 🤷♀️
I live in my van and have 100% bleached my hair in my van with only a couple of gallons of water :) It was to lighten it to dye later that day. I stopped into a rest stop and did an extra rinse in the sink :)

Lol, brad would laugh so hard watching me help my mom with her hair on our farm for most of my life. We usually do it outside and all the horses watch us when we do it ( they are in the field in front of my house so if we go outside they like to come say hi).

You always say it's better to go to a hairstylist to bleach hair, but I've been bleaching my hair by myself for most of my life, and I saved sooo much money. I just need 1 box lightener every 2 months that costs 8,45€. 😅 And it turns out great every time.
Thiiis $300 my ass 😂😂 I do pay that to a stylist because I’m not coordinated but that’s because I can’t do it myself and have it turn out good if I could I would I’d save so much $$
@tarynriver just go to a hairstylist once to get it all even. Then you just have to do the roots, and those are easy. I mean, it's a bit tricky in the back, but not impossible, or you can even get someone to help you with the back part.
I do it differently than Brad. I go from the front part of the head to the back. That is more manageable for me personally.
i think he's saying it's less expensive to go to a hairstylist when you make a bunch of mistakes and end up needing to go back to the beauty store several times to get a lot of new bleaches to try to keep fixing all the mistakes.... but also not only that, it's expensive to your hair as well because of all the damage you can risk doing to your hair when you don't know what you're doing and keep reapplying bleach, brushing your hair roughly after washing bleach out etc etc when it'd be nicer to your hair to go to a professional who knows what they're doing and can give you tips on how to care for your hair... that's how i understand it anyway.

Sorry, Brad, but it doesn't cost $300 to do it at home, maybe $60-$80 when you're all said and done and that's even with having to fix it a few times. The last time I went to a stylist, I was quoted $400 for my long hair.

It has neverrrr cost me $300 to dye my hair Brad, nice sales tactic though! $65 at most and that tub of bleach and developer will out live that project so next time around it's like $20-$30 depending on the length of hair and what im doing.

I just paid £82 for a hairdresser to spend 2.5 hours bleaching up my 3" of regrowth for me to dye it pink again. I'd spend about the same amount of time doing it myself but finish sweaty and exhausted. Worth every penny.
