Thanks Graham and Darryl for this discussion! For me, the problem with early air brakes (at downwind) would be, that from this point both hands are in action. My instructor Rand advised me NEVER to take the hand away from the spoiler handle after spoiler release.
Absolutely wonderful and thank you for sharing. You've put a lot into making this fine experience for us and it's appreciated. I have to say that I was disappointed in the sloppy landing however - you missed the centerline by a full 5mm. ;-) I learned to fly here in Sydney, Australia in the trusty C152 and plan to one day own something like the Sinus (when the kids are a bit older perhaps). I'm curious as to the need to slow down to IAS52 before shutting the engine down going into soaring mode. Can you tell me why please? Shock cooling perhaps? Many thanks for a great video! I fly a sinus down in Texas and noticed my landing is a bit different from yours. instead of putting the airbrake out on final, I was taught to put it halfway out at midfield. Fantastic video.
I fly a pipistrel virus in canada odd that you were taught this way to land. I always use air brake on base and final to control decent, why would you descend on the downwind? Very nice video Helge!
I'm really impressed with the video and aircraft. Can you actually thermal with it? I've been looking at a Virus SW, but tempted to look closely at the Sinus.
Very quiet with the engine off - just like a 'pure' glider. Also remarkably quiet with the engine running. Ideal for introducing folks to flight & flight training.

I'm confused .. did he do the air brakes on downwind or on final. Looked like final to me. Where do I look for that? Either way a nice bit of video.

yes yes and yes! especially in the flex configuration, but also if possible a bit larger cargo space for a foldable mountain bike.

I'm thinking that too and it must be to bleed a lot of altitude. Higher than I thought?
