You could also get ozark's 7" which comes with a top that does this exact thing for half the price and it boils a large pot of water in about 15 mins, have cooked on it and it works great.
A jetboil will boil water faster than not only a solo stove or open fire, but also most other gas powered cookstoves. The Solo Mesa is intended for ambiance, roasting s'mores or hot dogs, and a bit of hand warmth when it's chilly out. At least that's my impression; I have both.
The solo is a table top fire pit, not a stove per se. Put an X support on it and it would be awesome. You can make one in 5 min with some sheet metal and a hack saw. Just cut a kerf half way through the center of both and cross lap them. It'll still be sooty, because it's designed for the ambience of a nice soothing yellow smokeless flame. I'm not sure, but it would make sense that the actual stoves they sell would be designed a little differently so they would burn more efficiently for a cleaner cooking experience.
Have you ever tried chop sawing a ~4” log into 1-2”+ disks to see if that slows down the burn and radiates more heat? (After you get going with smaller twigs, of course.) I just scored one (new in package) at a thrift store today and can’t wait to experiment with it.
I got the Titan. Sticks are better than pellets for me. I got the put it fits inside. I like it so far. I think this will be good for preppers. Gas bottles might be hard to find.
Yeah, I bought some pellets but definitely prefer twigs. The pellets are fine for the first burn but once you start adding to it it kinda smothers the fire.
5:20 I always thought it worked like ... The Gases from the wood, are released and the bottom holes push air and the gases up to the top holes...and you get a secondary burn...

@@nancyclayton6535 that's a great suggestion! I'll have to try it. That's one of my hang ups about these small twig stoves is that you have to constantly fuel the fire to keep it going. Thanks for the suggestion!
I got a great deal on the 511. Yes, it was more than $39 but I was able to buy it local from an independent dealer. I’ve had cheaper backpacks in the past and over time the stiching and/or zippers always fail under heavy use. The old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ definitely applies to heavy use outdoor gear. But I say, get what you can afford. The main thing is to just be out there!!
It literally takes 2 minutes to start a fire and you don't need even half of that much tinder. You're outside guy but your fire starting skills are kind of weird and I'm a chick from Queens play the fire at no point needs to be spilling over the rain you started that like you're starting a bonfire or a campfire and that is absolutely not necessary at all. This is for hand warming or ambience but not a cook stove
I can confirm the mesa xl for RVing is a perfect size for heat and cooking. The campfire model accessories fit the mesa xl version.
You can buy the titan solo stove replacement cooking ring and it fits on top of the mesa ....works great
Awesome! Thanks for the tip.
Can confirm. And the Campfire Solo Stove ring fits the Mesa XL. Also confirmed.
Hello! Thanks for advice! Could you please send link where i can order it? Thanks
How do you cook on the animal

I have the camp version and you can find twigs and small wood pieces almost everywhere. Gas maybe not so rofl

The area you are in looks so beautiful and fun. Great place for a solo stove fire!
Thanks! I’m lucky to live in a beautiful part of the US!
I never saw the mesa as anything but a tabletop fire pit. I don’t think it’s marketed as a cook stove. Is it?
Actually it’s pretty good if you purchase the Titan cook top. The way I tested it in this video isn’t ideal until the mod.
You can even put an alcohol burner to cook with on days it snows, rains, hails, or icey days. :)

If you have the mesa, order the cooking ring for the titans and viola your mesa is a titan

I believe you are right. I ordered the cook top for the Titan to be able to boil water on the trail. I’m convinced it will work better.
@@forestadventureswithscott8777 very nice. looking forward to viewing your updated video on its workings.
You're correct he just doesn't know how to use it.
He didnt make the fire inside the mesa, but on top of the mesa...
I have a Mesa also and love it. I wish it came with a ring to put pot or pan on. I’m also curious about the lite
You can purchase the cooking top of the Titan and it fits the Mesa!
the solo titan pot /pan piece of the solo titan fits perfectly on top of the solo messa which in makes this a camping stove. the ring does not.
You can even put a canister burner inside the mesa stove. It will mimic a windscreen.
Ahhh, thanks for the tip.
You can even put the canister burner inside a wood gas stove too. The Titan stove. :)
nice job.

Good video subscribed
Thanks!
I don't think it was designed for cooking in mind. More alike just camping fire.
It wasn't. I've got a few stoves that are better designed for cooking. I just thought it would be a fun experiment to try it out!
You did it wrong way. Never put your twigs higher than secondary burner hole.
Been using it for a few months now. I usually let it burn down and put the ring on top. But, I’ve actually switched to pellets.
I have a bonfire it’s almost impossible to stay under and it makes little difference
Have the Walmart Backpack $39.00. Works flawlessly. Half the price.

Does this little stove emit much radiant heat sitting nearby it?
Not much at all. Better suited to cook on or for just ambience on a table top.
Your stove needs the elevation ring to hold the pot off the top of the stove. I have the bonfire stove and cooks steaks very quickly.
Thanks for the tips!

Hey maybe not start a huge ass fire on on it to begin with? It only takes a couple things to start it.
