Long time NRPS freak here, a little surprised at some on the negative comments here. This revival of the New Riders has been together for 12 years or so, touring extensively, and has released several studio CDs of new material. They''ve kept Marmaduke's music alive for a whole nuther generation of fans, while forging ahead pushing the music to new places. Health issues with founding guitarist David Nelson and long time pedal steel ace Buddy Cage have put the train on a siding for the time being, but this is an excellent sampling of what the Renaissance New Riders of the Purple Sage are all about. Thanks for sharing.

Possibly the greatest quintessential rock band of all time. I was at this set and it was such a great one. Saw them again a couple of weeks later and didn't stop smiling for 3 or 4 months. Was great how they picked with Rumpke Mountain Boys at the end of the night.

I got to personally witness this band in Gardner,MT the summer of '79. Notice the steel slide guitar they still use. Still great and still touring after 45 years.

Ronnie Penque, on bass and vocals here, has NRPS tribute band called Panams Dead. They are great and sound just like the original lineup. They cover the total NRPS catalogue. Check them out. You'll be glad you did. ✌✊

It really has come down to a way of crafting great music rather than a cast of characters

Last of the country rockers. Today it's all this Americana. Their last album , 17 Pine ave, is great. Songs written by Dave Nelson and Robert Hunter.

I thought I just met the last surviving member, but this is evidence that I didn't. Im not even sure that he knows that NRoTPS is still together.
I'll follow up tomorrow and see if i can figure this out.

What the hell is this Bullshit? In 1997, the New Riders of the Purple Sage split up. Dawson retired from music and moved to Mexico to become an English teacher. By this time, Nelson had started his own David Nelson Band. There was a reunion performance in 2001. In 2002, the New Riders accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award from High Times magazine. On hand were a frail Dawson (suffering from emphysema), Nelson, Cage, Dryden
and Torbert's widow Patti. The band performed "Panama Red" and "Lonesome LA Cowboy" with Peter Rowan as part of the celebration. In the spring of 2004, Cage sat in at several gigs with the David Nelson Band. As far as some people are concerned, there are a bunch of splinter performers, all operating under "questionable circumstances" using the NRPS name and riding outta town with whatever crumbs they can find....Yea shed a tear for the last lonely eagle...

Hey, they are doing what they love, and keeping some good music alive. They might not be what they used to be, but still well worth the $10 ticket price.

Jim Algeo Pull out your original 72 RPM LP and listen to it again for old times sake and remember the beauty these men found in a simple desert sunset. Their like will not pass this way again.

Charles Silvestri Heynow Mr. Charlie! Really now, what is like seeing *any* band in the '70s, opening for the Dead or not? Now, maybe if Bear were in Bean Blossom to toss a few handfuls to the crowd ...
