The First Vision | Joseph Smith History Part 1 | Come Follow Me 2025

The beginning of Joseph Smith’s history focuses on his early life and the events that led to his First Vision. Joseph was born in 1805 to a humble family in Vermont, later moving to New York. His parents taught him to love God, and though they experienced hardships, they worked hard and lived with faith.
During Joseph’s youth, a religious revival swept through his town. Many churches invited people to join, but their conflicting teachings confused him. Joseph wanted to know which church was true. He turned to the Bible and read James 1:5, which says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God.” This verse inspired him to pray and seek answers directly from God.
At the age of 14, Joseph went to a quiet grove of trees to pray. There, he experienced the First Vision. God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him that none of the existing churches were correct in their teachings. He was instructed to wait for further guidance.
This part of Joseph’s history highlights his faith, the importance of prayer, and the beginning of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It teaches us that God hears and answers prayers.
