I actually like El Tigre he's memorable enough for fans to talk about him 2007 was really a bad year for Nicktoons cause the classic Nicktoons like Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Jimmy Neutron, Invader Zim etc ended years before but El Tigre was a good show the animation remind me of Mucha Lucha.
I went out to get these series back on DVD. I have all of hey Arnold, invader zim, el tigre, my life as a teenage robot, Doug, danny phantom, avatar, korra, hi hi puffy Ami yumi, teen titans, and chalkzone now.
El Tigre was the first kids show I remember watching that really nailed the idea of moral struggle. Manny was from a rough city, surrounded by bad influences. Manny wanted to be a hero, wanted to do good, but he also was realistically tempted by evil. What is tempting about evil to a kid? Getting what you want, doing things the easy way, the cathartic joy of destruction, avoiding responsibility. Every kid could relate to that. Seeing a character, a kid, who did bad things, but wasn't portrayed as being just a bad kid, was really important. Manny was the hero for the troubled kids, and made them believe they could choose to be good, even if it was hard.
I never noticed that until now. Then again I haven’t watched every single episode, I just watched what episodes were currently available on the Nickelodeon website at the time
@@mikelove8720 I couldn't agree more. One particular episode is stuck permanently in my brain. Manny is part of a football team (yeah, I am calling it football like everybody in Latin America, not soccer) that always loses, so he asks his dad about the possibility of cheating, hypothetically speaking of course. His dad tells him about this occasion where he was also part of a football team and was pressured to cheat in order to win a very important match. He refused and after losing he was chased out of town by an angry mob throwing rocks at him, for "shaming" the city league with his loss. At the end of the story, Manny tried to figure out the lesson, and his interpretation was, and I quote: "So if you cheat you win, but if you don't cheat people throw rocks at you?!". And his dad answers him with a hand on his chest, the posture of a champion and pride on his face: "Rocks of Honor!!!". I have never, ever forgotten that joke. It always makes me smile and I think about it every time I think about the reasons I should do the right thing. Not because I might get a reward, but because living with integrity is a source of personal fulfillment and pride that can't be rivaled by the momentary pleasure of winning. Not to mention it just ruins the game because Manny ended up cheating and in time his matches devolved into a fiasco contest, not football at all. He risked disappointing the people that really loved him, to not disappoint the mindless masses that would turn on him the moment he failed (and fail he did, but not to his father) Man... what a good show
@@JavierGomezX bro this is exactly what I'm talking about that was beautiful! El Tigre came out at a time when most cartoons still had positive messages, but the way this show tells them is really one of a kind! And so real, like a lot of folks manny doesn't usually get the conviction to do what's right instead of what's easy until he gets burned in trial by fire. After going through it, he really understands most of Rodalpho's mesages, but like a lot of US, especially as defiant adolescents, he has to learn the hard way. But he DOES learn, and that is the biggest takeaway
El Tigre is the reason why I started liking Anti-Heroes and villains even more. But in terms of his fate, I think he'll always step up against greater evils and gladly save lives but he'll do things here and there to fill his pockets.
Funny thing is Shortly after El tigre ended I discovered Deadpool. While still a hero at heart El tigre and Deadpool play both sides I loved that about both characters. It shows that humans aren't necessarily naturally evil but there's nothing wrong with playing both sides of the coin and ignoring the cricket on your shoulder every once in awhile.
As a Mexican, how could I forget this show? I think it was the second time I saw my culture represented on television after Mucha Lucha. I loved Manny Rivera with all my heart, the dilemma between choosing to be a hero or a villain seemed so cool. I remember the day Nickelodeon made us vote to choose the ending, it felt like something super important to my younger-self.
@@Otak646 Kinda does, if he had just said El Tigre was special because of the main character's skin color then it wouldn't really matter as people are far more than their outward appearance, but culture is something special and can be a big part of someone's identity, my father was from Mexico and my mom was first generation in America from Ireland, growing up I always loved seeing the two cultures in the media I consumed because it was stuff that I could easily relate to that isn't really a big thing in America such as Dia De Las Muertos, or watching a pantomime on St. Stephen's Day with my whole family, racial representation isn't actually important as people can empathize with others who don't look like them, while cultural representation is important as it's a look at history and the personal values present in families from those cultures, one is just outward appearance while the other is how people live.
dude, i'm from chile and this and mucha lucha were so funny to many of us just 'cause we felt that latino sentiment from 'em (welp, both also were genuinely funny... but the cultural things were funny as well XD)
@@GarkKahn it sounds like something to which I would have thought "that's not right" when I was a kid but then I would have gotten distracted because children simultaneously are smarter that we give them for and have literally no attention span whatsoever
Jorge r Gutierrez said on his twitter months ago that he does want to revive the series! But right now he still has a few more projects to do with netflix like a new movie and a adult cartoon, so it is still unknown when exactly he will revive it. But i do wish him the best of luck, cuz that series really deserves to come back 😃
As a Mexican kid there's no way I could forget about this show! Spanish/Latine based animations were VERY rare back then (especially with a Spanish/Latine lead), so when we would see Mucha Lucha, El Tigre, or emperor's new groove its Takis/cheeto time!
@@bobobsen It's the white, upper-class academia term for Latino, invented by American universities because they want to change language to not be gendered. It's incredibly racist.
7:10 I’ll still never forget the ep his grand fathers came back to help him on the final boss and they mentioned his ultimate move and all the grand fathers were like you’ll never survive doing that move El Tigre..and one of the grand fathers was like “I know I didnt!”😂🤣
Another good joke from that same ep was when El Tigre was about to rejoin the fight he says, "Noone lives forever" and his predecessor replies with "Tell me about it".
Can confirm related to "The Good, The Bad and the Tigre" they did actually have two endings ready for the swap. The "Good" ending won out on the voting (I watched the episode live as a kid. It was really cool) but there was indeed a "Bad Ending" version which Nick later revealed on cable and eventually gave out Online. ( I am pretty sure you can find it on TH-cam if you look around? )
Thanks for the info, I loved the episode as a kid but I voted for a bad ending because I LOVE the dynamic between Manny and his grandpappy they have so much fun together they remind of my grandad and I :)
@@Synthetic_Soul_CH you're not missing much. It was so boring Probably on purpose do people wouldn't pick it. And in the end he did right thing anyways, pretty much making it null and void.
It's amazing that a show like this actually got made back in 2007. Coco gets a lot of praise for it's hispanic representation, but it's even more impressive to me that El Tigre did it 10 years before on the small screen.
Tbh El Tigre must've been an underrated show, which was why people looked over it (idk I was super young at the time). Which is sad since I wish there are more shows like Avatar and this which have a genuine good story while representing variety of cultures aside from the west. Well I guess the closest approximation is anime and some shows like Owl House and Ghost of Molly Mcgee (tho sadly nowadays representation either gets unnecessarly overly praised or called woke by others due preconceived notions of today's cartoons).
It's not tht surprising when the mexican culture is so interesting. I remember Rey mysterio fighting as a luchador. Luchadors were common in wwe and got decent viewership. So it's even less surprising to see 2 tv shows for kids about mexican wrestlers come out.
@@dadadadeadgirl5602 You’re exactly right. You either have people overly-praising representation - asking for 11 different races in every film - or you’ve got people calling any form of representation woke. I’m starting to think that it’s just human nature to pick sides(And have more loyalty in your side than you would in your biological parents).
As a kid I wasn't a fan of El Tigre because it got in the way of the shows I wanted to watch, but overtime I watched a couple of episodes I became a fan. I might have to rewatch it because I didn't watch it by episode or fully.
The sho woul gotten that too if it erent ended premature. It a seriously good and fun coming of age story soapopera style that, i think fits the how great, and the art. And manny. I fear that made it getting done dirty, that itss a fun good mexican culture show, cause well its not anime and it not , whatever that executive that might be a bit rassist thought why people woulsnt likr that rally ffun show mit love. i woulsnt blame avatar as , like why is it still an anomaly? why didn that shows get more ads? I cant shake it might be rassim and kids cant like that colourful mxican culture wtf they think..
I agree, a lot of the characters are likeable, and the setting and themes are pretty cool. They even had a rival for El Tigre at some point named Black Panther I believe (I don’t remember her Spanish name)
I do really love the idea of his family being half villain and half hero. Think it could have been even more fun if there were multiple living members on each side. Like 3 for villain and 3 for hero. But since it's 11 minutes I guess it makes sense they couldn't put all that in
This show was such a huge part of my childhood and is up there in my nostalgic list with Avatar:the last airbender, code name kids next door, and my life as a teenage robot among others
Man. It really bums me out when a show like this, with actual heart and originality, is scrapped for the same basic formulaic junk we've seen a thousand times. El Tigre had interesting character design, animation style, setting, and concept, and yet it's basically been relegated to blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameos in Nickelodeon media, and just pop culture in general. I really wish this show had been given a fair shot, as it feels like the cards were stacked against it from the get-go with its early time slot, unique layout, and lack of advertisement. It's a real shame, because I feel like there was a lot of untapped content here that could've lasted the show a long time. Maybe one day we'll get some kind of spin-off or reboot, with all these old shows being picked back up again lately. One can only hope.
I feel like a reboot could 100% work. A more serious art style and story change and that's all this show would honestly need to be a success with today's audience. Everything else in the show already works pretty well.
A reboot would be awesome. This show was my favourite as a kid. I remember one day calling in sick for school because there was an El Tigre marathon on tv. I was so bummed out when I heard they cancelled it. This show was original, fun and unlike many modern cartoons, it wasn't shallow.
@@EnzMeister a reboot would only be good if the OG people direct it but if its done by another group it will end up looking like a shitty fanfic just look at avatar the last airbender movie they kept making shit up and it just looks stupid and poorly written
I'm Mexican and I grew up in a large Mexican community in America Everyone and their mother knew this cartoon. Heck I saw products of it whenever I would visit Mexico
The creator has a canon future for El Tigre. It's been revealed by the creator that Manny and Frida are still friends up to the point of where they both attended high school. It's been explained that if Season three were to be made, Frida would be given Maria's glove and become a superhero but she only uses it on occasion due to the whole "she can only wear the glove and use its power for 1 hour, and if she doesn't, then the glove will take over her mind and she'll become insane and obsessed with violence" thing. In high school, both Frida and Manny only just hung out with each other due to them dating other people. Manny began dating Zoe Aves at this point, though it’s unknown what Frida's reaction is to this relationship. Fans realized that it was anger and jealousy due to both girls being enemies. Frida dated more people than Manny, since she dated Sergio first, followed by Dr. Chipotle Jr., and for some reason after that Django of the Dead, but broke up with them in unknown periods of time. After graduating, Frida remains to pursue her career of being a rockstar with her band since the old days. For some reason after this, she met up with Manny once again and under unknown circumstances got married to each other. Also said by Jorge that Manny and Frida would have triplets; one a hero, one a villain and one hasn’t decided yet if he wants to be a hero or a villian.
Fun fact: El tigre started as a western character in a comic series (a thief with his heart in the right place) and was adapted into this show from what i can tell. Also the original comic character is public domain which is why it was adapted!
I knew little to nothing on Mexican culture. El Tigre and Mucha Lucha were the best I had to learn about it, and honestly, it made me love it. El Tigre to this day maybe one of the biggest shows I miss. Sure not every episode was a winner, but many of them made me wanna sit down to watch or even rewatch them over and over again.
The art style was ICONIC and every other flash animation on Nick looked ugly next to this. Absolutely love the premise and how family issues between the two patriarchs in Manny's life come about because they are both superhero and supervillain. It's such a smart way to build a family dynamic. Plus, character designs were always memorable and have been stuck in my head forever.
As a Mexican I can say this show will always be one of my favorite, I live in Mexico and even then seeing this kind of representation on TV was insane for me, it felt special and most importantly it was really good! I collected all the tazos I could get from the papitas and they were my pride and joy, the character design always felt so much characteristic and different than I as a child would constantly draw the character, Jorge Gutierrez is an inspiration and I’m so happy I got to see this show in TV, I have many friends as well who also remember the show, it was definitely sad that it ended so quickly but Im happy with what we got!
I always loved this show. It was fast paced, the humour was great, and all the characters were interesting. It really sucks the show didn't get more episodes
I loved this show so much as a kid. I thought Manny's powers were just the coolest. I used to pretend that I had his belt and would fight imaginary bad guys as the white girl version of El Tigre lmfao.
It's really fascinating how, in spite of it's short run, El Tigre manage to leave such a legacy from its five emmy awards to having two licensed video games and its creator going on to make more stuff that subtly referenced the series.
This show was my absolute jam, I remember when the creator showed all those ideas they had for the future of the show before it got cancelled and I got so mad
It seems like most of the people I know near my age (20, so usually 17 to 23) remember this show pretty well. Most people I talk about it with seem to have liked it.
this show was pretty good, i liked the idea that Manny descended both from heroes and villains and the naming theme of himself, his father and his grandfather being cats was clever. Manny himself was also a good character, he was bit of trouble maker but was still likeable. the setting was unique, i think this was one of the very few shows that had a Hispanic lead and was set in a another country. Freida and Manny relationship, while maybe a bit...standard (main boy and girl becoming a couple) was pretty adorable. I'm nor sure why this didn't succeeded, I liked it enough and would watch it pretty regularly, and while it was never my favorite, I still found it funny and actions packed. i also remember the special where voters choices if Manny would to do the good or evil thing, Good won of course but what was nice is that they also showed the evil ending, the writers and animators actually made two endings! that is devotion!
I think it was because of when it aired. I think it was on the nick side channel of nicktoons instead of the primary block. Cuz it was a good show. Animation for fights was very clean and bouncy.
Fun fact: there actually WAS an alternate ending to ‘the Good the Bad and the Tigre’ that you could watch on Nickelodeon’s website, so the voting may have counted after all!
I could never forget this show! It was so awesome, and being in a hispanic household made it so much better. This show deserved so much more 🥲 (Also my last name is Suarez; even though it’s a pretty common surname, still felt cool that I shared my last name with a cartoon character 😅)
i remember playing the flash game for ages when i was a kid, a platformer where you'd get the chance each level to move your meter towards hero or villain, which gave you different benefits and drawbacks on your choice (higher damage as a villain but passive police officers now attack you for one, afair).
"Less severe acts of crime." Stealing the domed roof of the capital building is less severe? Actually, this is Miracle City, a spicy cesspool of crime and villainy. Stealing a roof isn't severe at all.
I used to love this show! I always rewatch it after seeing another one of Jorge Gutierrez’s projects like Book of Life and Maya and the Three. Fun fact: El Tigre, Book of Life and Maya and the Three all take place in the same universe.
Manny Rivera also made a cameo appearance in The Book of Life at one point in the film (since I believe the creator of El Tigre was the director of said film).
This was one of my favorite shows when I was younger. I actually immediately recognized one of the characters in Maya and the Three as being a reference to one of the recurring antagonists in El Tigre. It gave me a real feeling of nostalgia and I got incredibly excited about it. Thank you for reviewing this and bringing back the feeling of happiness I held onto as tightly as I could from the edge.
I was actually the target age for this show when it came out and I remember watching it after school and loving it, then noticed it disappeared suddenly and I always wondered what happened to it. Great video and thanks for reminding me of something I haven’t seen in ages.
I LOVED El Tigre. Never forgot about it, such an underated show. It was super original. Also you can definitely find the bad ending online. It involved Manny and Frida taking over iirc
When I was little I never realized how deep the show was, but now after watching this video I find it fascinating to see all the themes in the show. Like the battle between good and evil, the importance of family, and how to make tough decisions. Versus some of the other cartoons were the characters just go on some random adventure where there may or may not be a lesson learned. I definitely have a new found appreciation for this forgotten gem
As far as "The Good the Bad and The Tigre" goes, they did have an alternate ending ready to go. They aired it on TV a few times and I think it still exists on Nick's website somewhere. I definitely remember watching it. Also another fun fact, El Tigre and Book of Life exist in the same universe as Jorge announced on twitter that Manolo and Joaquin are Manny and Frida's respective ancestors. Manny and Frida also have a little cameo in the opening of Book of Life. Apparently both characters are based heavily on Jorge and Sandra as children, with Jorge feeling pressured by his family to take on different careers, and Sandra being a rebellious artist.
For me it was the music, the action, the character designs, art style and the comedy that made this show immortalized in my brain and I still remember every episode and character to this very day.
I'm surprised this is actually an underrated show and not just something people knew of, I watched it all the time and have pretty big memories from seeing it. It deserved way more
I don't barely love El Tiger...I LOVE EL TIGRE! The amount of artistic beauty and pizazz from that show is phenominal! I love Gutierrez art from Mucha Lucha and adored it's art carrying on in The Book of Life and. Maya and the 3 on Netflix! Also, if you check the backgrounds, you'll see Manny and Frieda in the background of said projects!
El Tigre had such a cool art style and an interesting concept, I loved this show so much, it can stay in my brain rent free The culture is so fascinating and this one is one of my favorites
What I most liked about it was Manny's powerset, specially the sound effect of his claws! The best part was the chain-hands, shooting them and grappling onto stuff, etc. I think it'd be an amazing fighting game moveset either having the claws extended and used almost as whips or going melee for higher damage.
The nostalgia, I remember watching this show back when I was still in Africa and my little bro, 5 at the time absolutely loved it and got me hooked on it too. The title was too complicated for him so he would always say “I want to watch ‘el tigye n mbumayokoooo’” it was the most adorable thing.
I am loving the attention late 2000s Nick is getting from you lately. I feel as though it is a much overlooked part of the network just after the classics were ending, but the modern era hadn't quite kicked into gear yet. Thanks for the coverage!
I never forgot. It was one of the few shows where we were one of the leads and not just the comedy sidekick or a random "spicy" love interest. And it never felt forced or deliberate to me. It was just so STEEPED in everything that it felt like there was genuine love. They actually did make two endings to the finale episode, and you can find the alternate online some places. Though I sincerely doubt (even back then) they'd ever let Manny end as an outright villain. (That ending has him and Frida take over the city and build a rollercoaster.) The only complaints I have is that in the second half of the series, it repeats itself a lot. Some better, some worse, but if you binge it, it's definitely noticable.
If El Tigre ever got a continuation/third season I think it would focus on Manny and Frida’s high school life, like exploring what happened to them following the series finale
Heck, the show defined me as a person. One particular episode is stuck permanently in my brain. As a Mexican, growing with characters i can relate with was inspiring! Especially when it came to cartoons like El Tigre and generator Rex. The book of life and Maya and the three only added to my joy
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid, it's so crazy to me. The theme pops up in my head every so often, and watching this made me realize just how dear it was to me. Also they did indeed have both endings ready to go, and I preferred the evil ending
This show truly was a blessing. It really helped open my eyes as a kid about the beauty and styles of different cultures, also I just love Super Hero stuff so much!!!
Funnily enough, this show got imprinted into my brain thanks to the fact that around the time it was on air I discovered and was playing a videogame called Fable that tackles the same "who I want to be" dilemma. I liked the concept so much that I immediately got hooked. It's sad what happened to it.
Not only do I remember El Tigre but I love it. Such an under appreciated show. It deserved so much better but of course this is Nickelodeon we’re talking here.
I remember being really excited for this show as a little brown kid whose favourite animals were tigers, but then almost immediately forgetting about it after it ended. Really wish I had remembered it more because it looks really fun!!! Might try to rewatch it now as an adult.
This was one of my favorite shows actually. I wasn’t watching when it originally came out, but I saw it on nicktoons with reruns and fell in love with it. Sad it had to end so soon.
When i saw the slide in the presentation showed in 8:32. where gutierres is refering to la casa de la cultura and cecut. Those places hold really deep memories of my childhood of the time this show also aired. La casa de la cultura I played a recital with my 1st grade class. and cecut being the place where watched a lot of disney movies and the place always looked massive to me. This was a trip down memory lane for me. A time i had completely forgotten.
You may not know this, but Jorge did say he wanted to bring the show back! After he finishes up some projects at Netflix, he plans to revive the series in some way. (One of those Netflix projects was Maya and the Three ofc)
El Tigre was probably my favorite show during the year of its air time since it featured some pretty cool designs. Most memorable ep probably has to be the one you talked about where they ate the offerings for the dead. I really love that we actually got to see their ancestors in action.
I’ve actually never forgotten this show, I’ve just haven’t had a lot of people to talk about it with! I’m glad this show wasn’t left to dust and people can still talk about it!
Well, the good news is that Nick has been starting to acknowledge the show more lately, as the show had a marathon aired on TeenNick's NickRewind block earlier this year, and they've also been occasionally acknowledging the show in social media posts.
Personally, the show's premise & intro really struck out to me as a kid. It's probably one of my influences why I really love seeing a more "in the middle" side in a Good vs Evil story. That & I really liked the designs of a lot of side-heroes.
I’d kinda argue personally that papi was less evil and moreso just lacked self control and was extremely greedy. The worst we ever hear of him do is a few robberies and a couple heists. Also stole a sidewalk probably for shjts and giggles as concrete tends not to be valuable.
I was a freshman in college when I found out my dorm had access to nickelodeon and when I woke up at 4 am to find them playing El Tigre, I made it a habit to wake up at that time and do my art assignments while watching the show. I have never been so dedicated to a show back then when cable was still the only way to watch things but El Tigre will always have a place in my heart. I hope it resurges in popularity! It's a super fun show!
I could never forget El Tigre because it was one of the few shows that had a kid in it that looked like me and felt familiar to me and my Hispanic household. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart for that
It's still my favorite Nicktoon and I'll always be disappointed it didn't get a second season because Nick kept shuffling around the time slot. The Grave escape episode where Manny meets his ancestors is one of my favorite episodes of any show ever
I really liked El Tigre. I lived in Tijuana during my childhood and I remember this show playing in Canal 5. I also collected El Tigre Tazos that came in chip bags.
I have literally had this show on my mind for years but I had absolutely no clue what it was called. Glad to see this video randomly pop back up and bring back some good memories of the show
el tigre is the genesis of my anti-hero(kinda) personality, love for culture, and any of the other themes that stuck with me. this is tied for my favorite animation with scoobert-doo, i genuinly love this show. thank you for reminding of this, and i wish i could thank the creators for make this show.
This is one of the shows that even my dad liked. My dad was born in Mexico, and he doesn’t see as much culture here in the United States. It was one of the few things that showed my culture. I loved it. As well as a few years ago I learned something about speedy Gonzalez. Another one of our favorite animated characters. Speedy Gonzalez was almost canceled because of it stereotyping Mexicans. Good thing it didn’t happen. Do you know why? When Mexicans heard that they were gonna get rid of him, there was an uproar. They loved him. The failure of cancel culture at its finest.
This would've been been so much more popular now: -It has superheroes and -villains -it has mexican roots, which would make it popular with hispanic people
This was the only show I ever watched early in the morning. I LOVED the animation and the story of this show! El Tigre really made my childhood better along with other shows from Nick.💙
This show will always be one of my favorite nickelodeon shows, it left such a big impression on me when growing up. I remember the excitement and the emotions I felt watching the last episode. At that point of my life I had never seen a character falling under the anti hero trope and it was truly amazing and groundbreaking watching something like it for the first time, especially considering I was just a chind. It really sparked something in me and to this day anti hero stories are still one of my favorite tropes, simple yet powerful. Don't get me started on how it opened my eyes to how different and beautiful different cultures are, as a Greek kid I had no way to appreciate Mexican traditions yet El tigre made me feel one with the culture it represented
Yo I literally love El Tigre. I may forget it for a while here and there, but I always remember it usually out of nowhere, it's just no one else talks about it!
Bro El Tigre was the SHIT!!! God I loved that show. Honestly, loved the idea of a character that had family who was both hero and villain origins. Also the fact he was Latino representation for us was dope as hell as I always felt like I could relate to Manny. I was always wondering why Book of Life always stuck to me and when you mentioned the creator of El Tigre made and helped with Book of Life it all came together I woulda sold my soul to get a season 2 ;-;
I loved El Tigre! Even as a child I recognized the unique art style and cultural aspects. The characters were very memorable. Here’s to hoping El Tigre is added to the Nick All Stars game!
About two weeks ago, I forgot the name of this cartoon... It's nice to see how my recommendations reminded my of this great show of my childhood. El Tigre and Chalkzone are two of Nickelodeon's classic I've always liked.
Honestly when I was young I legit thought this was going to be the next big Nickelodeon show and I now know El Tigre and The Book of Life were made by the same people, now I really wish El Tigre had been able to continue it truely has heart and I still love it and continue too.
I really loved this show as a kid! I actually went to the Nickelodeon website and voted in the decision of destiny. I'm pretty confident the viewer participation aspect was legit, because they actually showed you fully animated previews of both the good and evil endings. I remember picking the good ending because it felt more like a "proper" or "true" ending to the episode by playing out normally with a more satisfying conclusion, while the evil ending sorta took you out of the episode a bit by suddenly becoming a narrated showcase of the consequences and aftermath of Manny's actions. I don't even remember the context of Manny's decision anymore, but I recall thinking this episode was really cool! This is definitely my favorite lesser-known Nicktoon and I'm sad it didn't get more episodes. I appreciate this video covering it, though!
Thanks so much for watching! Have you seen El Tigre? What are your thoughts on the show?
Yes, I watched is as a kid. It was one of my favorite show
El tigre and Mucha Lucha! were my first introductions to mexican culture so they have a speical place in my memory~
Love the show! Glad it's on DVD...even though I had to.buy it from Amazon...

Every Latino kid that grew up watching Nicktoons gotta remember El Tigre, fr one of my favorite cartoons of all time
I'm mixed but I could never forget this show.

Exactly
oh shit "Much Lucha" wow i forgot about that one too
El Tigre was the first kids show I remember watching that really nailed the idea of moral struggle.
This is exactly what i loved about the show, you summarized it perfectly!
He risked disappointing the people that really loved him, to not disappoint the mindless masses that would turn on him the moment he failed (and fail he did, but not to his father)
Man... what a good show
@@JavierGomezX bro this is exactly what I'm talking about that was beautiful!
Damn. You make very good observations. I don't remember much about this show except for that sort of moral struggle of the main character.
El Tigre is the reason why I started liking Anti-Heroes and villains even more. But in terms of his fate, I think he'll always step up against greater evils and gladly save lives but he'll do things here and there to fill his pockets.
Mexican Shadow the Hedgehog
Bruh the first sentence don’t matter
It was amazing I remember this show. I think Nick kinda ruined Hispanic cartoons with Casagrandes.
Now i remember mucha lucha.
dude, i'm from chile and this and mucha lucha were so funny to many of us just 'cause we felt that latino sentiment from 'em (welp, both also were genuinely funny... but the cultural things were funny as well XD)

I've attempted to find the bad ending and have found absolutely nothing in regards to footage or even a confirmation that it even existed.
@@Synthetic_Soul_CH you're not missing much. It was so boring
Probably on purpose do people wouldn't pick it. And in the end he did right thing anyways, pretty much making it null and void.
I remember the bad ending, it blew my mind of how it ended
Also the animation of the series looks similar to the “Book of Life” movie
But since it's 11 minutes I guess it makes sense they couldn't put all that in
that idea is very good
This show was such a huge part of my childhood and is up there in my nostalgic list with Avatar:the last airbender, code name kids next door, and my life as a teenage robot among others
El Tigre is the Mexican AKA Manny Rivera.
Everything else in the show already works pretty well.
the guys up at nick were pretty dumb at that time all they did was suck spongbob's dick all day 24/7
A reboot would be awesome.

Man, El Tigre was one of the coolest shows Nick ever aired. I am still bitter it got cancelled so soon.
It got canceled?! Why do good cartoons always get canceled...
Yes its pretty oriiginal and interesting too but , :(
The art style was ICONIC and every other flash animation on Nick looked ugly next to this. Absolutely love the premise and how family issues between the two patriarchs in Manny's life come about because they are both superhero and supervillain. It's such a smart way to build a family dynamic. Plus, character designs were always memorable and have been stuck in my head forever.
It's a flash cartoon, but unlike many, this cartoon went to the bottom of the barrel with everything. The detail more than makes up for it
As a Mexican I can say this show will always be one of my favorite, I live in Mexico and even then seeing this kind of representation on TV was insane for me, it felt special and most importantly it was really good!
I remember trying out one of the old El Tigre minigames on the old Nick website before it got rebranded. I was terrible at them lmao
This show was my absolute jam, I remember when the creator showed all those ideas they had for the future of the show before it got cancelled and I got so mad
I like your logo
It seems like most of the people I know near my age (20, so usually 17 to 23) remember this show pretty well. Most people I talk about it with seem to have liked it.
As a fan of this show I wish they’d bring it back on a streaming platform. I would love a teenage manny dealing with adultish themes
It's on Paramount Plus now
this show was pretty good, i liked the idea that Manny descended both from heroes and villains and the naming theme of himself, his father and his grandfather being cats was clever.
I'm nor sure why this didn't succeeded, I liked it enough and would watch it pretty regularly, and while it was never my favorite, I still found it funny and actions packed.
i also remember the special where voters choices if Manny would to do the good or evil thing, Good won of course but what was nice is that they also showed the evil ending, the writers and animators actually made two endings! that is devotion!
soo true… also i wish children’s media would just let the kids be friends??? like close bonds. most the time its forced.
I think it was because of when it aired. I think it was on the nick side channel of nicktoons instead of the primary block.
Cuz it was a good show. Animation for fights was very clean and bouncy.

i remember playing the flash game for ages when i was a kid, a platformer where you'd get the chance each level to move your meter towards hero or villain, which gave you different benefits and drawbacks on your choice (higher damage as a villain but passive police officers now attack you for one, afair).

Yup Yup, talk about that in the video! :D

Thanks so much for watching!
(That ending has him and Frida take over the city and build a rollercoaster.)
The only complaints I have is that in the second half of the series, it repeats itself a lot.
Some better, some worse, but if you binge it, it's definitely noticable.
I actually remember El Tigre, a very good show I wish they would have continued it
I do wish they continue the series, but its spirit live on in the Book of life and Maya and three Netflix series. 💓🐅🐆

Personally, the show's premise & intro really struck out to me as a kid. It's probably one of my influences why I really love seeing a more "in the middle" side in a Good vs Evil story. That & I really liked the designs of a lot of side-heroes.
Why?
damn marx do have a dumpy tho
@@DaFlyingSeal if i remember right, his granddad was a villain so el tigre would sometimes take him down or let him go
I’d kinda argue personally that papi was less evil and moreso just lacked self control and was extremely greedy.
Man I remember playing the game on the official Nickelodeon website. It was so good and hard! You were able to choose between good and bad.
Bro that game was awesome and I would always go for the bad choice cuz idk I felt cooler that way
I could never forget El Tigre because it was one of the few shows that had a kid in it that looked like me and felt familiar to me and my Hispanic household.
My cousin has like two El Tigre tazos still
I have literally had this show on my mind for years but I had absolutely no clue what it was called. Glad to see this video randomly pop back up and bring back some good memories of the show
This show was my intro to Eric Bauza, and it was probably some of his first major original characters
el tigre is the genesis of my anti-hero(kinda) personality, love for culture, and any of the other themes that stuck with me. this is tied for my favorite animation with scoobert-doo, i genuinly love this show. thank you for reminding of this, and i wish i could thank the creators for make this show.
As a Mexican, we need more shows like this
Maya and the Three on Netflix 😉
This would've been been so much more popular now:
-It has superheroes and -villains
-it has mexican roots, which would make it popular with hispanic people
This was the only show I ever watched early in the morning.
I looooved this show and miss it so much! 😭😭😭 Glad I'm not the only one who remembers it. ❤
Yo I literally love El Tigre. I may forget it for a while here and there, but I always remember it usually out of nowhere, it's just no one else talks about it!
Bro El Tigre was the SHIT!!! God I loved that show. Honestly, loved the idea of a character that had family who was both hero and villain origins. Also the fact he was Latino representation for us was dope as hell as I always felt like I could relate to Manny. I was always wondering why Book of Life always stuck to me and when you mentioned the creator of El Tigre made and helped with Book of Life it all came together
I woulda sold my soul to get a season 2 ;-;
I only watched like, 2 episodes in my life, but I STILL remember how awesome it looked!
Honestly when I was young I legit thought this was going to be the next big Nickelodeon show and I now know El Tigre and The Book of Life were made by the same people, now I really wish El Tigre had been able to continue it truely has heart and I still love it and continue too.
I LOVED El Tigre as a kid, and I still think it holds up
I really loved this show as a kid!
Man, I almost forgot about this show. I’m glad I came here
