Wonderful. PS The late Peter Wadland was, in my humble opinion, the finest recording engineer of all. Seeing his name on a record was almost a guarantee in itself. From bunched rauschpfeiffen to a solo clavichord, his recordings never failed to amaze. His recording of Chris Hogwood playing Louis Couperin on a Couchet is technically, to my mind, the finest recording of a keyboard instrument ever made - and that's saying something. PS Hope you're keeping well.

I think this is one of the very best recordings too.
Recording quality. performance, instrument and repertoire. Strange that it is rather unnoticed in the collection. Yes the Hogwood recording of L. Couperin I had online but all Hogwood recordings are blocked by TH-cam.

@@HarpsichordVinylGallery Luckily, the L Couperin is still available easily on CD, so it's not one of the 'lost LP treasures' as such. Look on the bright side!

@@paulcaswell2813 Yes you are absolutely right. That mission is completed and the record company deserves all credits. However when I compare my vinyl of Hogwoods Gibbons release with the one released on CD I have some reason to be a bit sad. The vinyl got three pictures and descriptions of the three instruments that are used and unfortunately nothing is to be found in the poor documentation of the CD. The price of the CD was standard low but I prefer to pay a little extra for all information possible.
Well it can be worse. Lately I found out that the classical recording of Eva Nordwall is available as a streaming service which is great of course, but there is no documentation at all! For this modern music the documentation is essential, if it was only in this particular case to understand that the composer Ligeti wrote the Passacaglia ungherese (1978) especially for Eva Nordwall and it is performed as one of the tracks.
One of the excellent exceptions in the field of converting vinyl to CD-format is the Reflexe series (Tilney) by EMI. They provide all information of the vinyl album in that tiny miniature cd-format of the booklet.
As you will understand I see the music as the essential part of a project where the graphical design and the documentation are more than 'nice to have'.

@@HarpsichordVinylGallery I agree wholeheartedly about documentation. I remember the magic when receiving Walcha's '48'. The booklet had on its front and back covers gorgeous photographs of the two instruments used (Ruckers and Hemsch), and inside essays (not just meagre sleeve-notes).
The finest CD notes that I've come across (though nothing to do with the harpsichord) is on Chandos' issue of Bach and Buxtehude organ works played by Piet Kee. We don't just get a spec of the organ - we get a bar-by-bar guide to the registrations used in each piece. A superb touch by Chandos.

Muy grato de oir, una música muy especial que requiere su ambiente especial también.¿Las transcripciones de quién son del propio autor del laúd al teclado o de Colint Tilney? Un dato importante de verdad, vital.

Very nice! Can anyone tell if Tilney is using meantone temperament on this recording?

Splendour itself feat extraordinary record-switch variations on my adored enchanted Elizabethan song "Can She Excuse My Wrongs" - the fifth song in "First Booke of Songes or Ayres " (Peter Short edition 1597, London) by Magician John Dowland. Associated with astonished Lord Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex. Scored for viol consort and lute, dance tune more Galliard, Votre Marveux Grace, Folies d'Espagne. Take all my compliments, You re really the Top of Maniacs ! Rare archive registration, rare artefact now.

Better thank Mister Colin Tilney and the extraordinary crew who made this record possible although they must have known it would be not a commercial success. Precious jewels for the ones whose ears are fit to receive these gems.

@@HarpsichordVinylGallery L;Oiseau Lyre also gave us the Mozart series on period instruments, the Haydn symphonies, keyboard music for harpsichord with Hogwood, and other keyboard by the Bach family. They more than made their money back.

@@patriciayeiser6405 Yes top label, although all the vinyl recordings of Christopher Hogwood I made available at TH-cam like the Arne and Gibbons were blocked by TH-cam after a while. The Gibbons I can imagine. It was re-released as a cheap cd without the colour photos of the instruments that were played (which was an unforgivable omission and the reason why I made it available at TH-cam) but the Arne? It was never re-released as cd or there must be plans in the future, I can hardly imagine. And the blocking of the French suites by Dart on the Goff? I don't understand. Fortunately I myself can still play it at TH-cam with all the documentation.
