  • Dishonest fire making videos especially by the "experts" is a pet peeve of mine. There's no telling how many beginners have given up trying to learn bow and hand drill, and other techniques, because every video they find on TH-cam shows people easily getting embers. These embers quickly make tinder bundles burst into flames and causes fire lays to ignite with raging flames... and all on the first try!!! These deceivers are discouraging beginners just like they did me. I figured, "I just must not have what it takes to fire roll, float a hand drill, bamboo fire saw, whatever!... (you fill in the blank)".
Is it really such a blow to your ego to admit, Hey this is my 3rd attempt at an ember?... or hey, let me show you how I lubed my bearing block... or, this bow drill set is unnaturally dry. I dried it in the oven... etc.? I have 800 fire making videos that are longer than everybody else because I try to show the continuity without cutaways. I try to show everything from going for the ember to the actual fire in the stove.
Everyone should be admitting: how they dried out their materials, what sticky medium they use on the hands for hand drill, what chemicals you treated your fire roll with to make it ignite, reveal the metal bearing in your bearing block, admit to cherry picking the best ignition scenes and editing them to create the illusion great ease, etc.... LOL! Don't hold your breath while waiting for those changes, but do be aware of all the fakers and fakery that's going on.
