The corbels turned out really beautiful! This has given me some ideas about making some “beams” for a project, thanks Anthony!

The clients just had the house built, so for them to finally see some finishing touches go on is definitely exciting for them. It’s exciting for me to be a part of such a large project.

Great project. On all these faux beams what bothers me is that the ends don't have end grain. Couldn't you take a piece of the corbel cutoff and make a 45 degree cut to insert that in the end? Just have to be a little more picky on the glue up maybe?

The corbels were no where near the size of the end caps. you would either have to have a solid beam and Slice a piece off of the end and it would have to be the exact size you need or bigger, which defeats the purpose because if you had a beam that big, you would just use the solid wood for the entire mantel. If you did a glue up, you would have to face glue about 8-10 pieces of wood or more to get the size you need and you would never really make the growth rings look the way they should and lastly, all that work you do to make that end cap look like end grain would make you have to charge the clients a lot extra for your extra labor, time and materials. You can do for yourself but I am not, so it really defeats the purpose of saving time and money for you and your clients.

@@Belg1970 you’re absolutely right, that’s why I always give my clients the option of what they want but unfortunately they would just have to pay extra.
