GQ Chop 3 - REAR WALL FINISHED! What's next!?

  • After several years of abuse on the beach & in the bush, the GQ Patrol is full of rust & covered in dents. After my recent trip to Cape York, I told myself I would send it one last time through the $1000 Track as a wagon & then it would be time to chop it into an extra cab ute & rebuild it fresh & ready for it's next life.

    Mate it’s looking absolutely awesome. Keen to see how the process goes as I’m thinking of getting my rig ready to chop.
    Are you doing anything in terms of engineering?
    And what’s the idea for the interior. Keen to see it.

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’d avoid it if you can it’s a crap tonne of work haha, I did it cause I had to, as explained in another episode.
      Yeah it’s being engineered, been in contact with them along the way, the interior will be shown in the new ep this Sunday, did all car builders, will get new vinyl on the floor and a new headliner on the roof cheers mate 👌🏻👌🏻

    Mate, props to you this is a huge job and I have already seen the finished product so I know it comes out awesome. I just can't help thinking that your rear wall would have been super strong if your top bar was also cut to shape like you did at the bottom to clear the tub etc... Would have given you a pretty strong roll cage and really neat finish inside. I get it would have taken ages to get right.

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I did consider it, I even started to cut one up but I just thought fuck it haha, if the back wall wasn’t already pretty strong being 2mm then I definitely would have for sure, thanks heaps dude appreciate it 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    This thing is looking beyond sweeet🤤 Funny thing when you were talking about the box (SHS) being straight… You actually could have gotten that 50 SHS rolled to that slight radius (calculated with a few simple hand calculations). I’m up here in north QLD and the mills and refineries get HEAPS of stuff rolled but it’s not that common of knowledge so thought I’d pop the comment in there.

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I definitely could have rolled a piece but honestly that section was 2mm on 2mm zinc anyway, so even on a bad day it’s 3mm corner thickness? So didn’t worry too much, I also considered just a bit of flat bar as a rib there, but yeah she’ll work thanks heaps dude

    wish i had a machine to cut my walls out rather than using a grinder. i do windowless walls on my chops and can confirm that not having a great big hole helps with not warping i actually love doing the roof XD

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah trust me it was tempting to not worry about a window, would have saved a heck of a headache but I’d have kicked myself not to see over my shoulder so I’m glad I did, all the welding is done at least, time for body filler, primer and paint!

    • @jakecarpenter11
      @jakecarpenter11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@timmyhasheart the builds i do at work all have canopies so theres no real need for a window although ive just started pulling apart my 105 today to start its chop next week which will have a jackoff but ill be using a constant on rear view mirror camera. i just installed a gator one recently in a ranger and i was pretty impressed with its clarity and range of vision like had full blind spot vision so will install one of those.

    • @jakecarpenter11

      also not excited to do the body filling and paint prep on mine either

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah well if I was doing a canopy then I’d have absolutely not worried about a window, I was lucky though I was careful so I didn’t warp it, but I just meant in the vid I had to go slow so it didn’t, but yeah she’s all good and done now and I’ll be able to see out the dog A+

    • @jakecarpenter11
      @jakecarpenter11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@timmyhasheart oh yeah cause my walls are done as a full sheet i have to go slow as fuck sometimes its a real struggle to not just do full runs to speed it up but we all know that will end in some serious problems and way too much bog work needed in the end.

      @timmyhasheart  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly they don’t need stretching, just ruins how nimble they are in the bush, if anything you just chop the chassis down, dual cabs need a little stretch just to get the rear diff back under the tray properly but not an wxtra

      Na mate have never seen it personally, up at the cape 2 of the cruisers had the fan contact the radiator but I think it was more an engine mount thing from hitting the vertical bottom of gunshot rather than a water thing cause it wasn’t very deep at the bottom of gunshot
